GEEK ME: The Almighty Comic Book Quote Game

The RULES

  1. YOU: post an exact quote from a character in a comic book.

  2. SOMEONE ELSE: identifies speaker (and for 10 extra GEEK POINTS, the comic book, issue no. and writer/artist team.)

  3. YOU: verify accuracy. You may also provide additional clues, if you wish.

  4. EVERYONE: Repeat steps 1-3 as often as interesting.

  5. As originator of this game, I will occasionally come back and suggest Quote Game “themes” like, Suggestive X-Men, Blathering Byrne, Expressed By Ennis With Perfunctory Profanity, etc. You are under no obligation to adhere to these, of course, but those who don’t I’ll call wussy-boy foetal eaters.

  6. SCORING
5 points for a correct guess of speaker.
10 points for correctly naming the speaker, comic book issue AND writer/artists.

  7. I will tally up scores periodically, so we know exactly who sucks at this. Warning: If this thread is successful, I apologize now that I’ll need to quit as August approaches to prepare my classroom for the new school year.

Here’s hoping this doesn’t degenerate TOO quickly. I’ll start us off with something easy:

It would appear I have stumped people already. Another clue is called for:

Same character, same issue.

um, not stumped, bored perhaps, or uninterested but not stumped.

just teasing you

Sounds like you have a really big stack of comic books lying around…

How about Battle cries?

Imperious Rex!

Ouch. Too truthful much, BMalion?

Sorry if I was blunt and/or offensive. :frowning:

so what comic book was that from anyway?

To help bump this thread a little…

“It is over-- FINISHED!”

The only comic book quote that immediately springs to mind is: “Professional wrestling is homoerotic soap opera for retards.”

No clue on any of the other quotes, sorry. Been a while since I could afford comics.

Third clue. Same comic, same character.

“You and me, little buddy… adrift in an ocean of estrogen.”

BMalion: I wasn’t offended. “Imperius Rex!” is Namor the Sub-Mariner’s catchphrase.

Fibber, I need another clue. For some reason I’m thinking Spider-Man.

rjung: Is the response to that quote, “Not quite!” as a secret weapon is sprung?

I haven’t recognized a word of this. Maybe comics just aren’t that quotable? Or is it just me?

I tried thinking of one for when I jump in the game later at some point, but the only comic quote I can remember at all is:

“Is that… a monkey?”
“HE’S GOT A GUN!!!”

“It’s your very own…CALL FROM AL!”

(man, I hope I got that one right…it’s been ag

es)

Jesus people, It’s Yorick from Y:The last Man
I don’t know when I’ll be on again, so If I’m right…

Oh I’m sorry, did you think that was widely-read or something?

Let’s try this one, from a mainstream Marvel/DC comic:

“Sorry I’m late. I was busy having sex with myself.”
“Best kind of sex, I’ve heard.”

I think we’re all getting too obscure too quickly.

“This would be a good death…but not good enough.”

SpaceGhostof Arrakis: Correctamundo.

SolGrundy: I think your quote is from Swamp Thing Annual no. 2, Veitch/ – when Angel and the Ape took a aircraft hostage. If that ain’t it, it’s a heckuva coincidence.

Alcibiades: Batman in Dark Knight Returns #1, Miller/Janson

And you’re right, we ARE getting too obscure. Time to introduce a THEME.

GRANT “me the wisdom to understand” MORRISON
Any quote from any comic book written by Grant Morrison.
To wit:

How about “POW!”?

If we’re allowed to get away from the “men in tights” thing…

“I’m not a slob…I’m Hungarian!!!

Okay I know this one. Owlman. Morrison/Quitely. JLA Earth 2

“I’ve never punched a man with motor-neuron disease before.”

“Oh, I’m a policeman, dressed in blue
And I’ve got some good advice for you…
Always keep your pants pulled up,
Never let them see your pup…”
