Genealogy of the Gummi Bears?

OK, cartoon-over analysis time.

We all remember Disney’s “Gummi Bears,” right? My question is, how the deuce exactly are they (the bears) supposed to be related to each other?

Cubbi and Sunni were children, and close enough in age to be siblings. But I don’t ever remember it ever being said “on screen” that they were actually brother and sister.

But to really confuse things, the only other female besides Sunni was Grammi. And while she was indisputably the most “matronly” of the group, she seems too old to be the mother of anyone but Gruffi or Tummi. And obviously, the name “Grammi” sounds more like a derivative of “grandmother” than anything else…but even then, who’s the grandfather? Zummi? Or some poor mook who managed to get killed alongside Sunni and Cubbi’s parents?

Please…someone help me solve this mystery. Let me find a way to free myself from the question that haunts my soul. Let me find peace.

Perhaps the Gummi Bears, like the Smurfs, were asexual.

They obviously weren’t asexual, since they came in male and female varieties.

Her name notwithstanding, I thought that Grammy was roughly the same age as Gruffi, ie middle-aged to older-middle-aged. She was certainly younger than Zummi.

There doesn’t seem to be Mama or Papa Gummi, so I’d have to say that they’re probably dead.

I think it was pretty clear that most gummis died at some point in the past, likely they were just assorted survivors liveing as a family. they made it pretty clear that there used to be large numbers of gummis, with advanced technology/magic but it was all gone to the point that it was all lost art. gummis were dieing out majorly by the time the show started, so no reason to think they are related, just the remaineder of the gummi race. (although they found some feral child later if I remember right)

They actually found Ursalia, the lost city of the Gummis, and there were a few remaining survivors there. Not that that helps the OP any.
