I could see a small group of wealthy investors buying Hummer. They probably could be very profitable-selling these vehicles to the rich. if you are making >500K$/year, do you really care if gasoline is $5/gallon?
These are like land Rovers-vehicles for the very rich

I dunno, last year when gas hit $3, there was a big article in the local paper about all the wealthy yacht owners complaining that their million dollar boats got 1 mph and at $4 per gallon for marine fuel (can’t recall if it was diesel or not), they couldn’t afford to take their boats out every weekend anymore!

Of course, these same people will complain about gas being $4 a gallon or more, but think nothing of blowing $10k to fly first class.
Even at $10- per gallon, you don’t have to be rich. You just have to make it a priority. Supposing you get an average 10 miles per gallon, but only drive 100 miles per week. What are you spending per week for gasoline? A mere $100. That’s not rich; that’s petty cash. Okay, supposing you drive 300 miles per week, or just over 15,000 miles per year. You’re still only putting in $300. Yeah, it’s a lot more than I put into my own car, but you’re still not in the realm of “rich.” How many idiots spend that kind of money gambling or paying for lottery tickets? How many people spend that much per week eating out instead of at home? How many spend that much on cigarettes (heavy smokers)? And $10 is still a huge jump; halve those numbers for $5 gas, and it’s even more within the reach of people that make it a priority.
Yeah, sticker shock at the pump is making people re-prioritize their spending, but depending on what you like or dislike, $5 gas isn’t only for the rich.
Now, if they can only get rid of the Escalade.
They seem to be heading in that direction: GM to shut Oshawa Truck Plant.
Since the Hummer H2 is a modified Tahoe and the H3 a modified Trailblazer the vehicles will still be tied to GM for the foreseeable future. I think GM just doesn’t want to be associated with the image at this point.
Yeah GM and the big three can cry me a huge river. This coming from a Republican. They should have seen this day coming a mile away and yet had no contingency plan. If they all go tits up? Oh well, survival of the fittest.
