DETROIT (Reuters) - Hummer owners, frustrated with the vehicle’s excessive fuel consumption, ranked the SUV last in a benchmark poll of vehicle quality, according to a survey released by J.D. Power and Associates on Tuesday.

In the group’s annual survey of consumers during the first 90 days of ownership, General Motors Corp.'s highly profitable Hummer brand had 225 complaints per 100 vehicles. By comparison, the top-ranked Lexus, by Toyota Motor Corp., had 76 complaints per 100 vehicles.

Gary Cowger, president of GM North America, said the H2’s fuel consumption was the No. 1 complaint among owners, outpacing the No. 2 gripe – that the SUV’s headlights were aimed too high – by a 2-1 margin. GM has fixed the headlight problem, Cowger said.

I…I…don’t know what to say, except that if you don’t know that a Hummer guzzles gas, I think we should take your license away.

How does a consumer in this day and age not know how to read the mileage estimate numbers on the sticker?? Unless the purchase scenario goes like this:

“Me want Hummer. Me want Hummer NOW!”

You know, I think this is almost as stupid:

“There’s a very close correlation between the price of gasoline at the pump and the incidence of excessive fuel consumption problems,” Brian Walters, director of product research with J.D. Power, told Reuters.

Mr. Walters, you’re supposed to be surveying owners on the quality of their vehicles, not the cost of ownership. The gas consumption is known well before purchase, unless the vehicle is consuming more gas than was advertised, it is perfoming properly! That is not a quality problem, and you admit that your ‘quality’ rating is closely correlated with gas prices.

At 6,400 pounds (2,903 kg), the Hummer H2 is so heavy it falls outside U.S. regulations on fuel economy. Unlike other passenger cars and trucks, GM does not have to display the gas mileage on the window sales sticker of the H2 at dealerships. Hummer estimates the military-inspired SUV gets 11 to 13 miles per gallon.

The Hummer is special.
It doesn’t have mileage estimates on the sticker.
This means it uses no gas.

They are mostly bought by fat guys who are insecure about the fact that when erect, their cock is 2.4 inches long.

Well, that may be true, but…um…if you can’t figure out that a 6,400 pound vehicle is gonna be bad on gas mileage without a sticker telling you…I really want to know how these dumbasses were actually able to make enough money to buy one. Is McDonalds paying that well these days?

If only there was a stupidity tax. We could pay off the entire National Deficit inside of a year.

Keith Berry , I couldn’t agree with you more! I’m usually not an anti-SUV person but I think they should be banned just because they are so ugly. I nearly hand to gouge my eyes out the other day when I saw a bright yellow one with tinted windows and numerous NASCAR stickers on it.

Doggone! I didn’t realize it was such a behemoth! Someone at our marina drives one (it’s bumblebee yellow! :eek: ) and I thought it was pretty stupid looking. I didn’t realize it was such a pig. Nor did I know the mileage didn’t have to be shown - so I guess that explains that. I don’t get it…

I think Ill buy a 35 foot RV and then complain that I cant even get out of the state without stopping for gas. Twice.
