George C. Scott, Patton, Ann Coulter

If Ann Coulter announced the Law of Gravity, I would immediately tie myself to bedrock with strong steel cable.

And yet her books find their way to the top of Best Seller lists…

Must be those sexy pictures of her on the covers. C’mon all you lefities, admit it. You secretly want to ravage her, not her ideas.

A three bagger. One bag for her, one for you and one for anyone walking by who might inadvertently look in the window.

I just have to hijack here, I apologize in advance.

1- I just made a dumb joke. Hard to believe I’m being called a “lefty”. Not angered, mind you, just shocking. (I’m rather a conservative type of fellow.)

2-John Mace- What made you choose that screenname? Every time I read it I think of this cabinet. Jean Mace made that. Since we all know cabinets are the most important thing in the world*, I always have a chuckle when I see your screenname.
*I think so anyway

My post had nothing to do with yours. The “lefty” reference was meant for 'Luci et al, as he rightly presumed. And of course, my post was in jest. It’s hard to make a serious post about A.C.

Wow, that’s obscure. Anyway, it’s not a screenname. I have no problem admitting that I use my actual name here-- I have nothing to hide. I apologize if that’s a bit boring. Maybe I should reincarnate myself as “Jack Bauer”, or something more dramatic.

That is one amazing cabinet. I would kill to have an ability like that.

Anyway, how the hell does one portray someone accurately, but in a negative way? That’s way too subtle for me. If Scott actually did that, it went way over the heads of anyone I’ve ever met.

Not as high as Hillary Clinton gets, though.

Either that, or conservatives are stupid.

Urgh, no. I wouldn’t touch that skank ho with a ten-foot condom, even if it was wrapped around a cattle prod. Sexy teen cheerleaders yes, Ann Coulter NO. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ann Coulter is the same as Goebbels, except she blames everything on Democrats or “liberals” instead of Jews (you think I’m exaggerating here, but what’s the legal punishment for Treason?). That’s why she’s a best-selling author- hate is fun, but seriously examining the issues isn’t.

If this is the last time her name comes up in GD, we’ll all be better for it.

Let me join rjung in saying… EW. EW. EW!

That is all.

Oh, and Coulter’s an idiot.

I tell you again, and again, and again, beware people who say outrageous or asinine things with a straight face–or as someone else (guess who) said, with the supreme confidence of a Christian holding four aces.

Ms. Coultier’s cinema review is one example. To that we can add things like the recent comments that attacks on US forces in Iraq demonstrate American success and Iraqi desperation, or the always popular “I did not have sex with that woman,” or the almost forgotten “I am not a crook.” People say stuff, make up stuff, that advances their own selfish interest when ever they think they can get away with it. Some times, like little kids who think that if they shut their eyes you can not see them, the speaker’s estimation of what he can get away with is ill advised.

If there was ever anyone who placed ideology above truth, or even reason, it is our skinny lady friend and frequent topic on these boards. Baghdad Bob at least had inadvertent humor to help him along life’s rocky road. Ms. Coulter is devoid of humor as well as devoid of truth. Spread the word–the truth does not know her. If she opens her mouth and coherent words come out it is in all likelihood a lie. If she says that the sun sets in the West, go consult a second source.

Hell, no–she’s a man!

(Unfortunately, I can’t link to the strip that started this riff, as the site requires membership to view strips more than two weeks old.)

Introducing Goebbels version 2.0! Now with tits!

Anne of Green Goebbels.

Oh, and our esteemed colleague from the Flat Place in the Middle of Nowhere in Particular has slightly, but reverently, misquoted Mr. Mark Twain. Its the “calm confidence of a Christian with four aces” (Sometimes quoted as a Methodist with four aces)

In one interview Scott (who wasn’t particularly leftist) stated that he thought awards for acting were only fair if every actor played the same role using the same script and same director. He had a good point. Further, had the makers of PATTON (who included, in a minor capacity, a young George Lucas- let’s hope he never remakes it with more explosions and an CGI dancing tuna-mouse) wanted to trash and bash Patton, they certainly had ample material to work with from the real man’s life.

How does Coulter get away with this crap? Why hasn’t she been sued for libel from here til the end of forever when her outright lies are so easily proven?

Ann Coulter was so far gone in that MSNBC interview that even Tweety himself, Chris Matthews, essentially called her a liar. I believe the exact words were along the lines of “Facts mean nothing to you, Ann.” Of course, he will invite her back on his show in another month and nod his head as she accuses the Democratic candidates for President of all wanting Saddam restored to power in Iraq.

Sofa King hit the nail on the head with D’Este’s note that if anyone was the hero of the film it was Omar Bradley, who was the chief military consultant of the film and yet a man who personally despised Patton. If the aim of the film was to make Patton look bad, it would have been much more easily accomplished by hiring an actor other than George C. Scott. Scott’s gravelly, harsh voice was a direct contrast to that of Patton’s actual voice, which was very high pitched, something Patton disliked about himself intensely.

The portrayal of Patton in the film was at best the public persona that Patton hoped to convey to his troops in order to inspire them: the heroic leader, cold, harsh, and determined. Patton actually practiced his ‘war face’ in front of mirrors. In his private life he was much more emotional.

Damn, I need a new keyboard now.

I stopped paying attention to Coulter a long, long time ago. Even though I consider myself a conservative, I don’t allow my affiliation to the Republican party to completely blind me to different sides of the argument. Coulter is simply nucking futs, and I think her take on “Patton” is an example of her stretching a long ways just to find some new manner of criticizing liberals. I strongly suspect that much of the time she writes her stuff simply to get attention, rather than to provide genuine contributions to the political debates in this country.

LouisB:

I think it has to do with the American predisposition to belive that, if anyone is at all “good,” they wear all white and are paragons of virtue, and that if they are at all “bad,” they wear all black, eat live babies and sup at the Devil’s elbow.

Plus, a fact that many civillians don’t get: many of the human “virtues” that makes one a good military commander don’t necessarily make one a good human being, at least not in the civilian sense of the word.

Being relatively conservative, I can appreciate Ann Coulter’s physical assets without being distracted by her politics. She’s not unattractive, but to be perfectly honest, she’s a bit scary-looking. It must be the fanatical gleam in her eye.

Laura Ingrahm, now, is a BABE!

Cognitive Dissonance is still the number one mental health threat to our nation. But I fear that skankophilia is gaining.
