George W, both JCs would smack you like a bitch

Even Jacques Cousteau would bitch slap him.

Julia Child would have basted that turkey.

Nope. Again, 1992 laid all that to rest. Unless bombing aspirin factories and Chinese Embassies don’t count as military use. The military record of the President is irrelevant.

By the way, we’ve been at war since 1991 with Iraq. There was no official treaty. It was a conditional cease-fire. Hussein broke the terms, so the war just picked up where it left off. 9/11 was a convenient rallying point for the second wave, but you’re portraying reality in a false light. The war never actually ended.

How Julius Ceasar, the Messiah and Bush ended up as the crux of a Pit thread is amusing, but entirely out of left field.

Man, I’m out of it. I can’t even remember when Congress declared that sucker.

Nobody can, we were too busy thinking about tomorrow to realize what we were doing that day.

Please look at my posting #58. I’m quite a fan of TR myself.

Theodore Roosevelt may have done his share of grandstanding - but he got things done.
As for choosing Truman? Yeah, very good choice there.

I came in here for a good argument.

No you didn’t; no, you came here for an argument.

Jackie Chan doesn’t bitch slap, but I’m sure he could put George down pretty quickly.

No. Merely my lazy-assed self, thanks.

Jack Cerouac would probably just bitch that Dubya misspelled his name.

John Cale’s ‘Velvet Underground and Nico’ work on “Heroin” “Femme Fatale” and especially on “Venus in Furs” delivers all the evidence you need of his capacity to smack you like a bitch.

You’re including Andrew Jackson in that? The guy referred to as ‘Emperor Jackson’ in his lifetime?

Well, it’s a good thing Jean Chretien isn’t around any more.

(Of course Paul Martin won’t be either in a few days. )

There are a couple of problems with this statement.

One, Julius Caesar was never “Emperor” per se. See this cite.
Technicall, he was Dictator Perpetuus (dictator for life) at the time he was assassinated.

Which brings me to the other problem. I’ve been looking for cites to reinforce my memory of all this, and that period of Roman history is very complex. Nevertheless, if you read through the Wikipedia summary or a dedicated Caesar site, you’ll see that he was declared Dictator (a temporary position lasting six months) during the Civil War, but after being declared Dictator Perpetuus, he did not lead any armies in the field. He was preparing to lead legions against the Dacians and Parthians when he was assassinated.

More to the point, the armies he led during the Civil War, when he was called dictator and other various honorifics, were fighitng exclusively to establish his power and destroy Roman political rivals – none of these particular wars, after he had come to power, were to protect Rome or increase its territory. In fact, it was specifically his success in these civil wars that enabled Cqaesar to become Dictator Perpetuus – leading directly to the destruction of the Republic – not a comparison, I submit, that Bush fans want the public to think about.

So I think it’s a pretty ineffective claim to make, overall.

Sailboat

Fair enough. I forgot that Augustus was the first Emperor, and I accept the rest as fact since you did the work. Thanks.

YES! A Universal “Aaa-choo” to that one. Besides, many of those live in CA - I would imagine a statistical bias away from W-conservatism.

Both John & Joan Cusack would slap him and be really quirky and cute while doing it.

He’s not the Messiah - he’s a very naughty boy!
Regards,
Shodan

PS -‘Romanes Eunt Domus’

Actually, I think it’s good for someone who’s going to have the power to start a war to have experienced the horrors of war firsthand, as a caution. Doesn’t matter to me whether they’ve experienced those horrors in a military or civilian capacity, but members of the American military are more likely to have experienced them than American civilians over the last 50 years or so.

On to the more important aspect of this thread, has anyone given any thought to what John Coltrane vs. ‘W’ would be like?
