Think more along the lines of a voter voting for Perdue, but not bothering to vote for Loeffler. Perdue is more well known and won his previous election. Loeffler is an appointee and yes…
…let’s not forget, female. Warnock meanwhile is a very popular Black preacher. A church-going man, even a Democrat, might seem more of a coin toss for a few.
Some counties are closing up shop and going home to bed. % votes counted seems to have stalled at 97% with not much more happening. Seems to be a case of “to be continued tomorrow”. Looking very good for Warnock and I’ll defer to the experts that it’s good for Ossoff, too, but that one may go to a recount. There are also some overseas and military ballots that have until Friday 5:00 pm to be counted.
A good day for both the Needle and prediction markets who made clear the Dems were winning hours before the MSM which is still going with “too close to call”. And of course a great day for the Democrats and American democracy.
And yeah given the closeness of the races, it’s likely that Trump’s multi-week shit show, especially his call to the secretary of state cost the GOP the Senate.
Savour this moment, folks, it doesn’t happen that often but some truly foul people doing foul things have gotten the punishment they deserve,
Assuming the Senate races both go D, when does Mitch cease to be Senate majority leader? I gather it’s when the vote tallies are certified, but when does that happen?
I really shouldn’t stay up til Ossoff is in the lead…
But I just saw a pic on the AP site of a big Georgia Republican Victory Party breaking up, with depressed partygoers slouching towards home and bed. So I guess I can, too.
Well, from the NY Times, more like. They say 90,000 votes still to come in, with an estimated 77% of those for Ossoff (he only needs 51%). And there’s just not that much uncertainty in those estimates, because we know not just the typical voting patterns in those areas, but the actual voting patterns in the votes that have already been counted.
When it’s over, I’d like to add the number of votes in each race and see how they compare. I’m pretty sure they won’t be the same, but I’m curious why someone would vote in one of the runoffs and leave the other blank.
