Germany vs. Korea

What? No Germany vs. Korea World Cup thread yet?

Is anyone in the stands not wearing a red shirt?

Well, I for one sincerely hope Germany loses. But they should at least end up losing without some ‘divine intervention’ from the linesmen or referees.

The reason for this is simply because the German’s are playing the most unattractive football of any of the four teams left.

The winner of the World Cup will naturally be Brazil !

Brasil pentacampeão !!!

I’m watching it but without too much enthusiasm. Still deflated from last Friday.

I really, really don’t like Ballack so his not being in the Final (should, God help me, Germany win) doesn’t worry me very much.
BTW, this thread needsa spoiler in the thread title.

1-0 Germany

Bollocks. Come on the reds

Shit,

goal for Germany from Michael Ballack. Oh well, it lookls like the Korean dreams have finally come to an end.

Than again, there’s fifteen minutes left, so “Go Red !!!”

I still wish Finland had qualified instead of Germany, in the first place.

Yeah,

Finland - South Korea as a semifinal couldn’t have been any more bizarre than some of the other games in this World Cup.

Well…

I don’t like the German Team either, but somebody had to beat the reds.

Now I sit and wonder what the other reds will do tomorrow!!!1

I am looking for a Turkey - Germany final with riots in the streets of Frankfurt no matter the outcome.

I for one am waiting for news of riots in Seoul. Since they made it into the 2nd round I’ve been wondering if the reds aren’t the most likely trouble source, what with their thin skin over the reffereeing problems, and the trraditions of rioting. Hadn’t thought of the potential German-Turk problem, but a good point.

Anyway, it was a well played game (from this seat at least).

I think Oliver Kahn’s sideburns are now also becoming neck and shoulder burns…I really didn’t want Germany to win but at least I get to see the continuation of this evolutionary phenomenon.

What chance he’ll be hanging from the cross bar during the final ?

I have been cheering for the host nations throughout this tournament but I’m glad Germany won today. They were the better team on the day and all the refereeing shenanigans in Korea’s earlier games were beginning to leave a bit of a sour taste. I’m not suggesting that there was any intrigue but the extent of the ‘home town’ decisions was becoming a bit much.

A bizarre piece of footie trivia may now be consigned to the rubbish bin. Germany have never played Brazil in the world cup finals. When you consider that they’ve won it seven times between them as well as their vast number of appearances in the latter stages (today was Germany’s tenth semi final), that’s a bit strange. You never know, maybe Turkey will ensure that the sequence continues.

As noted in Brian Murphy’s hilarious World Cup column on ESPN.com:

He also notes that German coach Rudi Voeller has one of those unfortunate “porn moustaches.” LOL!

I was originally thinking Germany over Brazil on PKs. But with Ballack out, there goes what little offense they had. Brazil 1-0. Wish I was in Rio on Sunday. Hell, I wish I was in Rio anytime!

Let’s not count on that Germany-Brazil final just yet. I think Turkey have the ability to seriously trouble what is at times, a shaky Brazilian defence. Still, the one thing we can be sure of is that whoever gets through the other semi will have more offensive power than a Ballack-less Germany (thank god)

Well, I’ll have to root for Germany. Hey, everyone is for Brazil. Someone has to root for Germany! But I think Brazil will beat Turkey tomorrow and then go on to beat Germany on Sunday.

Yeah, someone should tell him that it’s no longer 1977.

Rudi Voeller’s hairdo and moustache have always been like this.

Behold the great Frank Rijkaard, here seen giving Voeller some free hair advice during the 1990 1/8 finals in Italy. Rijkaard got the nickname “Llama” for this incident.

It all ended well. See this Dutch advertisement, ca. 1994. “With Real Butter, you’ll get them on the same table again!”. On the back of all major newpapers during Easter weekend.

Now, this photograph signed by both players is for sale for $45.

It’s a strange world, isn’t it?

I was pulling for Germany today because I don’t want Korea making it to the final on the back of some really bad calls. I don’t think there’s a conspiracy or anything, but I don’t think they should even be in the semifinals. So, as little as I like Germany, I was rooting for them.

I hope Turkey beats Brazil, then wins it all.

Do you think Voeller wears the same suit and shirt over and over or does he pull an Einstein and have a closet full of the same outfits?

Porn star 'tache or not, I have to say Voller’s done a heck of a job with the Germans. Quite a turn-around after that 5-1 in Munich.

That said, c’mon, Turkey or Brazil (I don’t care who), beat those Germans, please!

Coldfire, does Rijkaard have any right to give Voller hair advice? Both of them deserve a special place in the ‘World Cup haircuts from hell’ squad. (which is led by Carlos Valderrama)

Have they actually made up after that incident? Maybe there’s hope for the world yet…

Let’s not forget Ronaldo’s late entry to the World Cup Haircuts From Hell line-up.

“I cut it myself”, says Ronaldo. No kidding…

Are football talent and taste in hairstyles mutually exclusive?
