Or so CNN is currently reporting.
I’m doing the best I can to feel sorry for the guy, but damn. This is hardest I’ve ever had to work at feeling empathy for someone with a potentially lethal ailment.

Well, it there ever was a guy with an overabundance of the stuff…
Well, they say no evil goes unpunished…
I should feel bad for him - it’s supposedly a horribly painful condition.
<<eyes shut tight>> empathy … good thoughts… I think I can I think I can… <</est>>
Ah well, screw it. I’m saving my sorrow for those who need it, not this yahoo.
I know what gallstones / pancreatitis is like. I do feel sorry for the guy, I wouldn’t wish that sort of pain even on Fred Phelps. I do hope though that it helps Ashcroft gain a new perspective on life, and maybe a change for the better.
Despite my general reluctance to feel sorry for Ashcroft, I have to this time. My dad went through what he is going through now, and I wouldn’t wish that amount of pain on anyone.
I’ve also suffered through gallstones and pancreatitis and, as much as I might dislike his politics, I can feel some empathy for the guy.
I know how you guys feel. I firmly believe in praying for those who persecute you, but damn, feeling sorry for Sturmbannfuhrer Ashcroft is hard.
Mr. Ashcroft has the prayers of Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and the whole Christian Coalition. He doesn’t need mine. Maybe he’ll have time to empathize with the extreme-pain patients in California who are not allowed access to medical marijuana; the ones who got it free until Ashcroft’s raiders swooped in.
So the daily injections of rat blood have finally taken their toll on the king flying monkey. He deserves whatever the wrathful gods may visit upon the black, writhing creature that serves as his soul.
Fuck him, the fuckin’ fuck.
Shame on you. You may disagree with his policies, but has he ever been convicted of dishonour or criminality?
Some might say his policies are dishonorable and criminal…
I wonder what sort of health insurance Mr. Ashcroft has…
Gee, you’re right…your eloquent argument has made me see the errors of my ways…please piss off.
I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. However -
If it is part of God’s intelligent design that someone has to get it then Ashcroft would be among my top 5 choices.
OK, 'fess up, Chefguy - you’ve been sticking pins into your little Ashcroft doll again, haven’t you! And put down that chicken!! Remember, under the Patriot Act, practicing voodoo will get you labeled an “enemy combatant,” and will, without a trial, get you locked in a windowless cell for the rest of your life.
Think about how you’d feel about someone who said AIDS is God’s punishment for gay people. That’s exactly how you look to others when you say that Ashcroft’s illness is a just “punishment” for his political views.
Except, of course, that AIDS is a terminal disease and Ashcroft in all likelihood will be fine in a couple of days. Slight difference in degree there.
It is wrong to wish ill on someone due to their political beliefs. I am a (small-d) democrat, and so I suspect that from time to time I might be wrong.
John A has done some stupid things, but I have little doubt he is serving the people guided by the faint and dimming light God has given him. He means well.
When the political scales balance out, many of his excesses will be corrected. I hope he live to see it.
When I read in the news he was in ICU, I was sure he had been shot by some left wing zealot.
Instead it is his body attacking him.
I can only wonder if his situation is as serious as they say, or he is in ICU for better protection.
Not to my knowledge - but the last election he was in, he lost to an opponent who had been dead for a couple months which looks pretty darn peculiar.
Yes, it really is that serious. Mr. Broomstick just got out of the hospital last Wednesday after having a bout of pancreatitis. 2 and 1/2 days in ICU, 6 days on a regular ward, plus the current at-home recovery. And my husband had a mild case of the ailment.
I am sooooooo glad we have health insurance…
