Get A Life

It wasn’t the first episode, but I do remember hearing “Cecilia Ann.” It was used for a training sequence in the episode when Chris and his dad entered a father-son athletic contest.

Family Guy - Is this show off the air again? This has to be one of the best animated shows ever.

Get a Life - I think FOX is definitely trying to piss people off by pulling these non-typical-not-quite-like-a-NBC-sitcom show.

Space: Above and Beyond - I use to watch this show religiously on FOX before they pulled it. Man, I was so pissed. Fortunately, Sci-Fi channel is showing re-runs.

The State - Why oh why did they try going onto CBS? I miss ya, Louie!

Louie: “Does someone got a bowl of something?”
Person: “I do!”
Louie: “What is it?”
Person: “Applesauce!”
Louie: “I wanna dip my balls in it!!!”
Crowd: “Yay!”

hmmmm Piano strikes again.

Mr. Show great great show.
Action already on F/X and I’m loving every second of it. Was there a better show on TV? I’d be hard pressed to find it.
Get a Life great great show.

First and foremost.

THE MONKEES!!!
I love them. They used to be on Nick at Nite and ocasionally on Screen Gem Networks. I’m going to have to start ordering episode tapes via Amazon.com.

God, the Devil, and Bob. My bro and I loved this show, and would tape it whenever possible. one of the greatest animated shows.

Other than that i’m being fulfilled in terms of TV Shows. I’m getting a bit too much of the Facts of Life though.

Family Guy is still on, and the Wonder Years could get annoying with the voice thing…

Fortunately, you didn’t have to wait too long – it was today’s episode.

Ever see the one with Louie at the last supper? The sketch ends with the disciples leaving with Louie. Ponchus Pilate (sp?) shows up and asks where Jesus is. “He went that way,” Jesus says wearily. “Wearing shirtsleeves, talking about his balls.” [dialogue approximated due to author’s weed impaired memory]

The Addams Family

The real one. They had a movie. They had a second movie (which I liked actually). They have a miserable new version.

But other than Nike at Night having on for one “special” week, they don’t show the REAL Addams family. Why is this? Is this not what Nick at Night is for?

“Freaks and Geeks” airs Tuesday nights at 8 on the Fox/Family channel.

There was an ABC show that lasted 1/2 a season called “Hondo.” It developed a cult following on cable reruns many years later.

That short? Wow. I can remember always seeing it listed in the TV section, generally in some hideous time slot like 9 a.m. on Sundays on TBS or TNT.

Does anyone else miss that quirky little MTV comedy, Austin Stories? (The misadventures of a group of slackers in Austin, TX.) Man, I loved that show.

Also, Square Pegs was pretty funny, plus you’ve gotta love a show with a theme song performed by The Waitresses.

I also loved God, The Devil and Bob. Damn spineless advertisers.

On one of the very last episodes, perhaps THE last episode, they did a sort of kabuki-theatre thing with lots of their recurring characters. I thought it was particularly funny, since I was taking Japanese at that time and picked up most of the dialogue without the subtitles. “I will make pilgrimages to your graves, and dip my balls in them.” hehehe…

And I miss Doug. “You don’t get it, Dad! Forget it, I’m outta he-ee-e-e–e-ere.”

The State has a book out, by the way, called State by State with The State. It’s a travel book with information on all 50 states, except Utah (you’ll understand why when you read it) and Connecticut, whose entry is just “Nothin’.” The book is DAMN funny.

Back to the OP: it bugs me that “Stand” wasn’t the theme when I taped Get A Life yesterday (for the first time). Licensing problem, you think?

The show I’d like to see back in syndication was on on Fox about 6 years ago called “The Edge”. It was like SNL, but only about 30 minutes. They had the funniest skits I’ve ever seen that blew SNL out of the water.

Mr. Terrific (starring Stephen Strimpell as Stanley Beamish) and Captain Nice (starring William Daniels as Carter Nash).

These both ran for a few scant months in 1967, horrifyingly, back-to-back.

“Horrifying” because they were BOTH super-hero parody shows, in the style of Get Smart (Buck Henry was one of the creators of Captain Nice). The big joke behind each show was that a nebbishy protagonist gained super-powers through the consumption of a powerful drug (this was 1967, after all).

William Daniels went on to portray John Adams in 1776, be the voice of KITT in Knight Rider, and win an Emmy for St. Elsewhere. Nothing ever became of Stephen Strimpell.

“Mr. Terrific” and “Captain Nice”—jeez, I hadn’t thought of THOSE in a good long time, Mr. PBS!

Ah, memories of my 1960s childhood taking root in front of the teevee . . . “The Pruitts of Southhampton” . . . “Love on a Rooftop” . . . “Accidental Family” . . . “The Ugliest Girl in Town” . . .

Guess that explains why I have not yet won that Nobel Prize or cured any diseases. My noggin is too stuffed with 1960s theme songs.

—“Zis has been a Filmvays Presentation, dahling!”

Because of that very episode, I dressed up as Louie for Halloween that very year (1994 I think) and walked around with a pair of golf balls, asking everyone if I could dip my balls in stuff.

Speaking of skit comedy, the Ben Stiller Show was pretty damn funny. Ben Stiller, Andy Dick, Janeane Garofalo, and the fourth guy whose name I don’t remember, but who was also damn funny.

Sure would love to see Comedy Central pick up and replay some of those episodes.

Freaks & Geeks was so great! I was so bummed when they cancelled that, wrote letters to the execs at NBC and everything! I’ve been recording them each week (2 episodes air each week on The Fox Family Channel as someone else pointed out). Last night they showed a never before aired episode (Bill’s mom hooks up with gym teacher Mr. Fredericks!) and next week another never before aired episode about Neil’s cheating father. DON’T MISS IT!

In the 80’s there was this show called “Paper Dolls”. It was a campy, Dynasty-type show about models and such and I was addicted! There was this big cliff hanger episode and the next week I went to watch and it was interrupted by Dan Rather or someone like that talking about some bombing somehwere, IIRC. And then, they never showed it again! I was really bummed!

I’m giving a “shout out” to The Young Ones. Unforgettable characters, for sure!

'nother vote for ** Nowhere Man ** and ** The State. ** (throw in a vote for ** The Sentinel, ** too. UPN at its best/worst)
** Family Guy ** was in fact, cancelled, but revived from the grave because it’s so frickin good.

I only saw one episode of that – I vaguely remember them going on a game show and one of them messed with the questions. I always wanted to see more, but I was too young at the time and couldn’t stay up.
