Am I The Only One Who Remembers The Greatest Show That Was On TV About Ten Years Ago?

I wanted a long thread name. Sue me.

Anyways, does anyone else remember the show “Get A Life” starring Chris Elliott, and, I think, Ed Asner (yoo-hoo, SqrlCub…)? It was the greatest damn show. It was sooo funny, and extremely stupid at the same time. It was, from what I remember, a VERY intelligent parody of an idiot. I’m much anticipating it’s release on DVD.

Who else LOVES(ED) this show?

–Tim

We are the children of the Eighties. We are not the first “lost generation” nor today’s lost generation; in fact, we think we know just where we stand - or are discovering it as we speak.

I agree. I was so disappointed when it went off the air. That show ruled, but it seems every time I bring it up I get puzzled looks from those around me. I suppose that’s why it went off the air. :frowning:

Ed Asner??? Where’d you possibly get Ed Asner???

Get a Life starred Chris Elliott, Bob Elliott (his father both in the show and in real life)Elinor DOnohue and some others. No Asner.

By the way, 4 episode were just released thid week on one DVD–

An oak tree is just a nut that stood it’s ground

Yeah, that was a great show. My favorite episode was the one where he was planning on going on a date and had to get a driver’s license.

“One left turn coming up (turns left)…How do you like it so far?”

I’m guessing the “Ed Asner” character Homer is remembering was Brian Doyle-Murray who joined the show in the role of Chris Elliot’s landlord.

I had heard that Bob Elliot was part of a famous comedy team called “Bob and Ray”, but I never saw any bits on TV by them. Has anyone else?

Doghouse:

TV? Slow down kid, and move back a decade or two. Bob and Ray did their best work on radio.

Hunt around in some of the heritage radio sites for tapes, or you may be able to find their “Write if You Get Work” book from a used bookstore.

Is that the one where in the opening theme/sequence Chris Elliott is riding a bike , ogles a woman, and crashes?

Man, I LOVED that show! Too bad my work schedule at the time (and lack of a VCR) kept me from missing about half of the episodes. I keep hoping Comedy Central will pick it up and show the series marathon-style sometime.

“It’s only common sense,
There are no accidents 'round here.”

I wanted to move a thread to MPSIMS. In one of those rare win/win instances, everybody gets what he wants.

Hold on tight, TV fans!

I think I remember the program. Did Chris Elliot work at a cemetary, or was that just the one episode that I saw?

I’ll probably mangle the quote but, “I may be a paperboy, but I’m head paperboy.”

Great show.

I thought I was the only one.

Loved it! He spent one episode strapped in a rollercoaster that had goten stuck upside down!..And “Stand” by R.E.M. for a theme song! It don’t get much better!

My fate keeps getting in the way of my destiny.

That is/was my all time favorite TV show. I love Chris Elliott!

Pardon me while I burst into flames.

I forgot to say that my favorite episode was the time he threw a party and got trashed on the bad shrimp.

Pardon me while I burst into flames.

I read the title and thought it was about the A-Team. Then I realized that was 12 years ago. Oh well.

Mere Life is not Victory.
Mere Death is not Defeat.

All time great show. I loved it.
Eat your heart out suckers, I have every episode on tape. Which shows that it pays to read alt.fan.chris-elliot.

About two weeks ago, the director’s guild association had a tribute to get a life. Alot of the cast was there (including Chris Elliot) It was sold out, so I missed it. Just wanted to mention it to show, that the show is indeed liked by many.

Indeed, Bob and Ray was one of the best radio comedy teams ever. Funny stuff, that was.

Get A Life trivia.

Bob Elliot = Chris Elliot’s dad.

David Mirkin = also exec produced a few seasons of the Simpsons.

Elinor Donahue = daughter in Father Knows Best.

Sam Robards = Jason Robards and Lauren Bacall’s son.

SPEWEY = Special Person Entering the World, Egg Yolk.

I’ll never understand why that show never took off. It had a pretty loyal following in my high school. “Get a Life” was one of the few sit coms I’ve encountered in my life that didn’t make me want to vomit. It’s sad that a show like “Full House” gets to spread its schmaltzy evil for a decade, but a gem like “Get a Life” gets snuffed before it even has a chance. I had forgotten about Spewey, but now I have a vision of Chris holding a coffee mug under one of it’s arms while it was “spewing” then drinking it. Remember the time travel episode where Chris goes back in time to help out his landlord? “Your cockfight sucked, you bastard!” I always thought of it as kind of a “live action” Simpsons, which is funny, because I never knew David Mirkin played a role in it’s production.

I’ll be the brave one to speak up and say, I remember this show and HATED it, Chris Elliot has always been an annoying bastard, similarly in the manner that Jim Carey makes me want to spew technicolor.

I honestly would have rather almost watched Full House than ANY Chris Elliot shows. (although it’s a damn close race).

Voted Biggest Smartass by all you beautiful people!

You always use violence. I should’ve ordered glutinous rice chicken.
