MetalMouse Are you still planning to go on an Antartica cruise?
shoe I’ve seen some tips about avoiding the glasses fog problem. Here’s a good list. I have used the glasses over the mask and the soapy water options, and both work well. There are also sprays. I can also get you a homemade mask that should fit better. PM me if you want to try that.
flyboy I am sorry to hear about your wife. How is she doing?
The main thing that’s different for me in lockdown is not having to deal with getting the kids to school. I don’t miss that. I do miss Trader Joe’s. We’re in a bubble with my parents, who are hitting their 80s. I don’t go anywhere other than their house for the most part. I miss my sister and her family. I’m really sorry that I can’t see her before her surgery.
Our Antartica cruise got cancelled. I’m not sure that this year will work out either. We’ll have to see how this pandemic goes. We did put money down, so I hope we can do this one of these days. A 3 week break from stress and worry would sure be welcome.
I signed up for one of those meal services that send you the ingredients and you do the prep. The kids want to learn to cook, so we’ll give it a try.
Happy Moanday all.
Yoshi got neutered last week. I won’t go into details (out of respect for those with similar equipment), but he’s been a sad pup. He’s started to feel better, but we’re keeping him sedated for a few more days to let the incision heal up.
I still need to adhere to my daily rule of getting dressed in clothes instead of my pj’s.
If any of you have AcornTV, the series A Place to Call Home is pretty good. Some of the story arcs seem a bit soap-opera-y, but the character development is good and overall, I’m enjoying it. FWIW, Acorn costs $60/year, so pretty cheap for all the programming it offers.
A fair bit accomplished today - apart from the trash/recycling run, I’ve done 3 loads of laundry, made chicken salad, started some poke chops in marinade, and crocheted a few more squares. Plus I walked a bit more than an hour, which is good.
Besides the poke chops, supper will include twice-baked spuds, onions-n-mushrooms, and peas. Rain hasn’t started yet, but it sure looks like it’s ready to fall any time. Chillage shall ensue for the rest of the day. Retirement is good, and several of you know already. I highly recommend it!
I miss my kids, whom I haven’t seen in 13 months. I miss the annual gathering with my siblings–18 months. I miss being with friends, though my main circle here have been gathering without me (I take science more seriously than they do.) so long, I’m not sure I’m still in the circle. Like shoe, I hate the fogging issue, only mine is with sunglasses because my eyes are so photosensitive, I have to wear shades on cloudy days.
A few weeks ago, I wrote a letter to the mom of a former student who died several years ago. Yesterday she called to thank me, and we spent an hour talking about him. Nobody mentions her son, who was truly an extraordinary person, so the opportunities to talk about him are nil. It was a good reminder of how painful it is to their loved ones when we don’t mention the names of the departed. I guess most people are more afraid of awkwardness than they are of the pain we don’t see.
I’ve realized the photos project is going to be weeks long, so today I’m corralling the whole thing so it’s not taking over my apartment. I also plotted my path for today’s walk.
flyboy, hope you can get to bed early tonight in lieu of not getting to sleep in.
I wish! I’m in Missouri, home of Hawley, much as we hate to admit it. It’s been super dry here lately - no snow, not a ton of rain - so it’s nice to see some water coming from the sky.
Though I do hate cold rain. It’s just above freezing so we don’t get the fun of snow. Just cold and wet. Which is why I’m making an afternoon espresso, half of which overlygirl will steal in an attempt at making peppermint mocha.
Howdy Y’all! Been a pretty lazy rest of the day for me. Did get sup cooked and et, but even then the slow cooker did a lot of the cookin’, except I did cook the baby limas and rolls. The kitchen got cleanded up and the biiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can got hauled all the way back up from the road to where it lives durin’ the week. Fun times! ‘Tis cloudy out and rain will be showin’ up sometime between tonight and tomorrow. Looks like tomorrow will be a good day to stay inside. I have no problem with that.
I graduated from Lindenwood in St. Charles. Yep, I’m a Lindenwood lady, as we were called. Being in the South was an eye opener for this girl from Iowa. I don’t miss those politics either, but then I don’t miss the politics of Boston either, my 13 years after the Missouri years.
I wanna go dancing (not that I was dancing much during these past 4 years). And go back to the fitness classes I was doing prior to the job that ate my life. Martial arts with actual training partners. I would like to circle with my witchy friends in person instead of generic rites over Zoom. Middle East music and dance camp, would be nice if that ever started up again. Travel to see my folks.
Upside: I have a couple of study partners who are serious and who show up every week. That NEVER used to happen in meatspace (“real life”). Not in California anyways. Flakes. Also I do not miss my horrible horrible commute. Never again that commute.
nellie, your photos should tell a story. I’ve made scrapbooks featuring the kids in my family up until they began school. After that, their pages kind of went into the general albums. I also do heritage work. If you PM me, I can download some pics to maybe give you some ideas. The last album that I completed was titled All Dressed Up. It shows off studio pictures from my mom’s side of the family. Other albums show snapshots.
butters, I feel you. There are still days when I miss my late SO so bad I cry and he’s been gone for almost 13 years now. It still aches, but not as often.
Like taters, I miss going out to eat. I also miss being able to take any kind of road trip, let alone an impromptu one with my SIL. I miss my family. It’s been over a year since I’ve seen most of them. I missed my family reunion, where I get to see extended family, mostly the only time that I get to. I miss weddings and funerals (yes, grieving with those who loved the deceased is much easier than grieving alone or online). I miss taking a casserole to families with a new baby or who are ill. Shoot, I even miss team lunches at irk.
shoe, try to find a mask that fits better. If you were local to me or my Sis, I would give you one from the stack that she regularly sends for me, my work crew and my favorite store clerks.
Irked, came home, walked Nelson in the rain (again) and got aggravated at pharmaceutical manufacturers. You have to jump through hoops to get one of their discounts, otherwise, you meds are $500 a month (for one!) even with insurance. WTF? I have good insurance and it’s still ridiculous. No wonder my BIL (a pharmaceutical exec) is pulling down close to seven figures.
Evening all. Made the mistake of lying down this afternoon (to read, I promise!) and ended up dozing off for nearly 2 hours. So that messed up the day. Raining outside but not the tunder-boomers we were promised, so there is that. Just got dinner at Jack’s (not Jack int he Box, just Jack’s–local burger chain) because I love their crinkle-cut fries.
Sunny, my plan right now is Antarticia in 2023 (my 7th Continent at the age of 70). But COVID messed up my 5-year plan, so we’ll see.
Sunny, talky, BBBoo, I lived in Missouri (St. Louis area) from 1987-2001, at least then the voters were still smart enough not to elect John Ashcroft and instead elected the dead guy…
FCM, my binge for the weekend was rewatching all 23 episodes of Final Space, which is a bit of an ecletic animated Space opera that I’ve come to enjoy. Simply don’t watch enough TV to make it worth getting all those interesting shows.
OK, food has been assimilated and a wild night of internettin’ and readin’ beckons. All y’all take care.
Mayor Breed says businesses can reopen on Thursday. PWAISDN is once again looking for a chair to rent as the shop he was at in early December packed it in and shut down permanently. Working on two leads. One is all but guaranteed, but is way up at Lombard and The Edge Of The Universe as far as his clients care. The other is ideally located, but may depend on other stylists/barbers retiring or moving away due t the current capacity restrictions.
Meanwhile, my back is KILLING me. Ultram is just barely doing anything. Wish I knew what I did so I might know what not to do again.
Daughter video called me so I could see Roxy bounce off the walls! She carried the phone all over the house, chattering the whole time. She’s a hoot!
We’re getting rain and there was sleet earlier - just a nasty night out there. Glad to be inside for certain. I will need to venture forth tomorrow but mostly, I should be able to stay warm and dry.
We want to see our two sons and families so badly. They live in other states so we haven’t seen them for over a year.
My wife’s hobby is eating out in nice restaurants. So she would like to resume our support for the restaurant industry.
I would like to meet with my gang of friends for coffee after exercise. It has been 10 months since I have seen them, and even though we do text, it just isn’t as emotionally rewarding.
And then there is travel. Pre Covid, we would take at least 2 major trips a year. Covid has been great to restock the travel funds…we look forward to going a bit wild spending the accumulation of $$$.
Survived the night with Loud Co-worker and picked up snacks at Arby’s on the way home. Chillage shall ensue shortly, followed closely by bedtime. I’m one taaaahred budtender.
Good night, Mumpers. Sleep tight, and don’t let the 'Rona virus bite!
We have a winter weather advisory from 0700 tomorrow today until 0600 tomorrow – 80% chance of wintry mix. 31 now, wind chill 23, now; low tonight (Mon) 23, high Tue 32, low Tue night 32. Wheee!
My city is shut down. A record January snow of 13”. Parking banned on residential streets, city pulled in all their transit busses, highways essentially shut down. And is isn’t done yet. Still in a winter storm watch through 9am tomorrow.
My daughter and son-in-law already knew they’d need child care coverage this week because Hattie’s preschool is closed because of Covid (not enough unexposed teacher to staff it) so LJ invited me to go back to my house Sunday after dinner and pack a bag for several nights. So I got ahead of the storm and am happily holed up with my version of a 3 year old tornado, as moooom would say. I just know she is going to want to go out into the yard tomorrow and play in it. The drifts will come up to her waist. Her trying to walk in it should be amusing. She hasn’t ever met a force of nature that she couldn’t move [TBH this besotted Grandma didn’t put up any fight. She had me at ‘hello’.]
What would be fun would be having the RoxStar coming up and barreling into the big back yard. mooom and I could take turns digging them out of wherever they got bogged down, which would probably be the 2nd step they took.
Hot chocolate would have to follow while we thawed out. There’s a fireplace in the living room and Disney+ on the big screen. I’d enjoy watching “Tangle” and “Moana” again. Would be a hoot.
