Get me out of the house in the MMP

Morning, mumpers! It’s cold and icy out there today, no signs of any sun yet. The weather app says “This is the perfect day to urinate on something you fucking wish wasn’t yours” and promises me 2C/36F to 5C/41F which is slightly better than yesterday. Also, mostly sunny, which is not in evidence yet.

I had to put the rubbish and recycling out yesterday, and haul the big recycling bin to the kerb where it will hopefully be collected today. No guarantees, because they may not have collected anything yesterday so they could be a day behind, or trying to double up on collections. Who knows? The council’s website doesn’t tell me much, except that I should put the bin out and leave it there. So I did.

hippie good to hear that you are still improving and managing to do things to keep yourself busy!

nellie it was so good of you to contact your former student’s parents and have that chat to his mother. I think it’s so true that people are almost scared to talk about someone who’s died, for fear of upsetting the family but in reality it’s the talk that keeps the person’s memory alive. I’m sure it did you both good, and his mother is really happy that you chatted.

BBBoo have fun playing in the snow with the little tornado! That sounds like an awful lot of snow, but around here the entire country would shut down if we have enough to just cover the ground. Ours should be melting a bit today, I scraped a load off the car last night just so that what remains has a better chance of disappearing today.

Right…off to do battle with my inboxes!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis < snerk > 69! < snerk > Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 74 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted. A good day to be inside and dry. Nuttin’ planned for the day so sloth shall rule. Sup shall be leftovers from yestiddy cause they need to get et up and we don’t mind leftovers.

To all of y’all who are dealin’ with snow and ice… Better Thee Than Me.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Stoopit night of stoopit dreams and repeated wakeage, culminating around 4:30. I messed around with my tablet till a bit after 6, but now I’m up, fed, and caffeinating. The main chore for today is a run to the post office, once FCD finally does the paperwork necessary to dissolve his company. He’s only known about it for a month. I may swing by Aldi while I’m out and about. Fortunately, the rain seems to have moved on.

And before I leave, I’ll turn off the pellet stove so it can cool a bit and I can clean it. The ashes need to be scooped out and the window is filthy. That should comprise today’s excitement. Plus afghaning shall continue. I’ve crocheted 20 of the 30 squares I need. Once they’re all done, I’ll edge them, join them, then edge the whole thing. Most of the squares are variegated but I’m almost out of that yarn, so the rest will be solids. Can’t wait to see what it looks like since I’m making this up as I go along.

But first, there are comics to be read and threads to surf.

Happy Tuesday!

Good morning Mumpers. We got a fair bit of the fluffy stuff overnight, with more promised over the course of today.

I’m up earlier than I felt like it, but prolly won’t get back to sleep now. Bah!

I have a to-do list that got a mystery item appended to it. I was up in the middle of the night as usual for a bio-break and just as I was winding back down to sleep I scribbled … something … onto my list.
I remember feeling glad that I remembered The Thing, and I distinctly remember feeling relieved and satisfied after I wrote down … whatever it was … because now, triumph of triumphs, I shall remember to Do The Thing!

Only, I have no idea what I wrote in the dark (looks like maybe ASC? ASU?) and of course can’t recall what prompted the scribble in the first place.

Well, off to handle the legible list items, I guess.

OH! A brilliant red cardinal :bird: just showed up to investigate the birdfeeder.

That was absolutely amazing. And so gratifying. I was in grad school at the time and I remember exactly where I was when I heard. I was walking to the biology building with my big ol’ walkman (which were still in circulation in those days) and I recall having a huge, huge grin on my face. I hated that Carnahan died, but it was satisfying to know that so many voters found Ashcroft so distasteful they’d vote for the other guy anyway.

Overlygirl is in in-person school today, which is good. She was so excited she was practically bouncing off the walls this morning. I, on the other hand, am less than excited. My review is today, and I’ve got a couple to give. They’re actually not going to be bad reviews (at least the ones I’m conducting), but no one likes to have The Talk.

In the meantime, I’ll sit here and guzzle coffee until my brain works again, then I can get ready for my own review. I stayed up too late last night watching true crime documentaries and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, while avoiding both the treadmill and prepping for my review. On the bright side, I made jalapeno cheese bread, chili and vast quantities of palak rajmah (basically spiced, creamed spinach with kidney beans 'cause I had 'em and didn’t want to use my paneer), which kinda made my night. So we’re set food-wise for at least a few days.

I’m in the orifice today, but at home 115 miles north it’s mostly cloudy and 35º American. We should have snow for a few hours tomorrow morning, but I think (hope) it will be like last week when it turned to rain and melted it all.

A cow-orker went to the ER yesterday. She’s in the orifice today. She was told it would take months to recover from her surgery, and it’s only been a couple of months. She really needs to rest. But she won’t.

The only fluffy stuff in my overnight is the comforter on my bed. Soft “mink fur” stuff on one side and thick sherpa fluff on the other. Very warm and snuggly. Very hard to get out from underneath in the morning.

Back is still not my friend. :sob:

Morning all. Bright and sunshine today, already 65F outside. And doggio, thanks for the concern but that’s about 90 miles south of me so no worries…just rain here.

Nothing much on the agenda, need to fix some sustenance here shortly, and might even do some housecleaning…or not. Laundry day will probably be Thorsday, at least 4-5 loads to do.

boofae, best too have the bin out. On days where I remember the night before and take it out, they show up at 3-4pm; on days I forget and 'will get it in the morning;, they’re here before 8am…don’t know how they know it but they do…

shoe, at least you tried to write it down; I’m always sure I’ll remember it and…don’t. it’ll come to you.

talky, the reviews will go fine, I’m sure; both yours and the other folks.

flyboy, I think we all know people who push too hard, either because they feel they need to or just their personality. Hope she does OK>

OK, need to go forage some. All y’all take care.

Somebody foraged my Cobb salad. But that’s OK. I had to take the day off Thursday and I didn’t want it to get too old, so I offered it to any of my cow-orkers.

ASL!!
It was “ASL” … because I was thinking about the catcalling thread (my standard defense is to play deaf) and also about a few customers who come through my line occasionally - masked, of course - who cannot hear even my muffled sounds. And now, can’t read lips.

I’d had a middle-of-the-night “what a good idea!” to learn some rudimentary ASL signs.

{ relieved sigh } I hate forgetting things.

On the fly, here’s a few leads for free on-line learning of ASL in case you’d like to try to learn some ‘baby sign’. I had a little sign under my belt from 3 deaf foster daughters but I used it with my Hattie when she arrived too. It’s fun. Watching YouTubes with official ASL interpreters helped me with body language and high positioning. If all you learn is finger-spelling you can do enough to transact budness [my misspelling of business related to better living through plants]. What little I had was very helpful in my nursing work-always glad I had it

The Dope has a very accomplished sign interpreter who could make far better suggestions. Next time I see her avatar I’ll pm it.

:love_you_gesture:t3:

Reviews went okay, so far, even my own. The feedback I was given was to be pushier, which wasn’t a surprise. In my boss’s words, “You’ve earned this seat at the table. Use it, and don’t take anyone’s shit.” Sometimes I love her.

Anyway, brains have kicked in, thank goodness. But I’m awake now that my butt and joints hurt from lack of exercise. Guess I’ll have to fix that later. Hopefully overlyhubs will remember to pick overlygirl up from school with limited reminders. I might go down and put a stickie on his forehead.

The Yahoo news feed has pictures with links to articles. When you read an article, there’s banner with smaller thumbnails under the title ‘You might also like’. Here’s what’s showing right now:

One of these things is not like the others
One of these things just doesn’t belong

Might work better to send him a slightly ribald text. He might miss a forehead stickie.

When I was a kid, I remember waking in the middle of the night with a brilliant idea for a story or a song or a poem or some such, and I also scribbled it down. And I also couldn’t decypher the scribble the next morning. Oh, the treasure the world has lost!!!

Just finished cleaning the pellet stove, including vacuuming much of the ash out. Then I disassembled the vacuum cleaner and de-ashed it. The various pieces are drying before reassembly.

LaZBoy texted me - our recliners will be delivered on Firday! FINALLY!!! We bought the durn things in September! So Firday morning, we’ll have to move a few things around in the living room. At long last!!!

I admire your optimism, MOOooooommm.

I’ve been told things would happen. I believe it about two seconds after I see it, and touch it.

This was a much better idea. (Yes, it worked…I think.)

Howdy Y’all! Been a very lazy day here at da cave. The most effort made today was to heat up leftovers for sup. Seriously. Even that was a chore. Anywho, it got done and kitchen got cleanded up. Laziness on a dreary and rainy day is a good thing. I shall make up for it somewhat tomorrow, as besides tomorrow bein’ the day to lay in provisions, I must betake myself over to the church house to deal with some church janitor Junior Warden stuff. Got a list of stuff to get seen about or do, whichever the case may be. Rah.

Did you at least have a tornado watch last evening metal mouse? We did until 1 AM and around 8, we did have some high winds.

I took a couple of hours off this morning (after a restless, nearly sleepless night) to try to straighten out a med issue. One of my med co-pays went from $106 every three months to over $500 a month. :open_mouth: It seems that at the first of the year, my insurance made it one that didn’t fall under the standard co-pay. I called both of the places that the pharmacy recommended last night (3 hours on the phone), my current PCP didn’t quite get the picture, the insurance company just told me that I would have to consult the PCP. Oy vey! I finally got in touch with someone at Xarelto this evening and within 20 minutes, she had me hooked up for six months. That means that when I go back to my PCP in July, I’ll be needing to change meds. I really don’t want to go back to rat poison.

Nelson got to meet the two new neighbor shih tzus in the next building this afternoon. They are cute females and Charlie, the 2 year old and Nelson hit it off. I have a feeling that they’re going to be buds.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I went for a long walk–5.6 miles–despite the chill and cutting wind. My friend/cleaning lady was here today and carted off a bunch of frames I’d stored in my dad’s old WWII footlocker, as well as the footlocker, itself. I think the footlocker will go to a theater or drama dept. (She has connections.) Dad hated his time in the army and had nightmares about it the rest of his life, so I don’t feel I was betraying him by giving it away. One less thing for my kids to contend with when I’m gone.

Red, re: photo albums, my problem is that the idea of starting from scratch gives me the vapors [fans face], and I have five photo albums: my parents (childhood through young adulthood), my family (siblings, parents, etc.) and me, my son, my daughter, and my son and daughter.

And I feels ya on the insurance stuff. Been in that maze many times. Glad you got resolution. Yay for Nelson’s new friendship!

swampy, what prompted you to volunteer for Junior Warden? You’ve done it before, I know, but my DIL is Junior Warden at her church, and it sounds like, um, a giant pain in the…head.

Flyboy, t\he Indianapolis shootings weren’t a top story on any of my news sites, so I had to look up the story. How awful. B-b-but Donny and Marie! A dark secret! OMG! Won’t somebody think of the children!
