Hmmm… does Doob know yet that he ‘offered’ to do this?
Not that it matters one way or the other. Count me in!

Damn you pat, in my defense I did just start a job where sleep became a commodity!
Sorry to add to your workload. (No, no I’m not.)
Anyway, do me, Doobie!
Taxonomize me, bay–bee!
Little did I know what he was up to last night when he was asking about taxonomic nomenclature! So, after having problems with my school’s modem pool (the computer wasnt recognizing my password), and waking up at 3 pm, since it’s a saturday, I find this thread! Good god, now i’ll have to find a book on taxonomic nomenclature.
However, since I dont know much about actual naming conventions, you will get names as I please. So there. Nyah.
I’ll try my best. I’m lazy, so dont expect instant gratification. Maybe since omni did this to me, i wont do his until he finishes all the requests in HIS thread ;).
::stands patiently at the end of a very long line::
Hell, I should be easy.
Yer’ a trooper, Doob. What a sport.
Waaaah! instant gratification takes too long!!!
[sub]but can you put me and wyldelf in compatible species…?[/sub]
I know I’m a newbie, but can I have one too?
Doobieous, I’d be grateful if you can find time to include me.
Me too! Me too!
Quisiera un nombre muy especial, por favor.
This isn’t going to be done the way the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature does things (sorry matt). But I will attempt my best. No guarantees for anything good. If I suck, blame omni, he put me on this damn spot in the first place. With that in mind i’ll do his first (the bastid!).
Note: The Latin dictionary i’m using which is online doesn’t give me the contex in which the word would be used, just the English equivalents. ALSO: For those I skipped this round, if you’ll list some traits about yourself, that would help, especially for your genus classification. For new people to this: You can help by listing some things about yourself, or, tell me what your nickname means, if it isnt very obvious. Those of you with Latin names, i’ll need you to do the same. I would have done Spiritus Mundi’s name, but his is latin, and I dont know too much about him. I could have cheated and used his nickname, though.
So, heeeeeeere we go…
Omniscient - Madidus molestus - Annoying drunk. This is what you get, bitch!
Jophiel - Cultor caelestis - Heavenly planter. Since joph deals with plants, i thought i’d name him this. Heavenlyt because his name refers to an angel.
Andygirl- Puella andyensis - Andy girl. Sorry! I couldnt think of anything too creative.
Seadiver - Urinor marinus - Sea Diver. If you would like a change, let me know, the dictionary gave me that word for “diver”, and yeah, it looks a lot like “urine” :).
wyldelf - Spiritus ferox - Wild Spirit. I used ferox which can also mean “warlike”, but meant in the sweetest possible way. Couldn’t find elf…dont think the romans had them, so I went with a looser translation.
Morrisons’ Lament - Questus morisonii - Morrison’s Lament. Creative, ya?
Spider Woman - Femina arachnioides - A total guess on my part for your species name ;).
Strainger - Extraneus contentus -Strained foreigner/stranger . Or, you can be Homo extraneus (the missing link?! :)).
Mr.Cynical - Madidus cynicus - Cynical drunk. I ain’t got nothin’ but love for ya, Mr.C
BeagleDave - Canis davidii - David’s dog. Hey, you made it all too easy!.
TruePisces - Piscis verus - True fish.
Wicked Blue - Azura scelestus - Wicked blue. Azura is actually middle latin.
Sue Duhnym - Femina elegans - Elegant woman (elegans can also mean slender, willowy). Not really creative i know. But, well, i think the species name is a nice touch.
mrvisible - Homo evidens - Visible man. Again, not very creative.
MikeG - Formator caminus - Large Hearth Maker. Since i recall you saying you used to have a kitchen design business, i thought of this (you did, right?). A variation might be: Formator focus - hearth maker (focus gave "fogo"in Italian, and “fuego” in Spanish. Both mean fire though).
LeSang - Puer sanguineus - Blood Boy. Taking your English nickname i use for you in chat. Or you could be Puer cruentus - bloody boy (a bit gory ;)).
Brachyrhynchos - Brachyrhynchos insolitus - Strange Brachyrhynchos. While yes, brachyrhyncos is actually the second half, i decided to make it the first half (bad Latin, i know).
Shadowfox - Vulpes umbrus - Shadow Fox. The umbrus is probably not real Latin, it’s a guess. Any of you who know care to clarify for me?
Chrome Spot - Macula chromis - Chrome Spot (Sorry, macula can also mean blemish). Anyway, i’m also not sure if that species name is correct.
Porcupine - Porcus spinus - Spiny pig. Well, it IS what your nickname means anyway ;). Again, another case i’m not sure if the species is correct latin.
Vengeance and Dust - Ira pulvis - Dusty Vengeance. I actually used the word for wrath (ira).
Kat - Felis divinus - Divine Cat. Since your nickname is just “kat”, i saw in your thread you are the cat goddess, so there you go.
Anamorphic - Imago iniquus - Unequal Image. Since Anamorphic means “Having or producing unequal magnifications along two axes perpendicular to eachother” I had to be a little inventive here.
Capybara - Hydrochoerus capybara - Capybara. See? THis is what happens when you tell me it will be easy, especially if you’re named after an animal. I just take your animal’s scientific name ;).
Tie-Dye - Vinculum infectum - Tie Dye. Nice and literal.
Trouble Again - Perturbo rursus. Another literal one.
Dr_Paprika - Capsicum canadensis - Canadian Pepper. IIRC, you are from Canada, no? Anyway, Dr_Paprika’sis more a botanical name, since Capsicum is the genus for the pepper species.
Fairy Princess Kitty - Felis regalis - Royal cat.
Naturally, i’m sure there’s other variations. I just chose the ones I liked. I may be wrong on some of the words. I could use some help here, you know ;).
Again, if i’ve missed you, help me out with some things about yourself. This also isnt an instant gratification thread. It’s whenever I want. And I still reserve the right for bad Latin.
So there, nyah.
Coming in on this late, I would like one too! I’m a baker, (duh!) especially of breads, but I also adore chocolate.
In an aside, does anyone remember those fake Latin names the Coyote and Roadrunner used to get? Speedius tastius, and eatibus anythingus and the like? There were a lot of them. I’m sure one would not have to stick to classic nomenclature.

Brachyrhynchos insolitus - Strange Brachyrhynchos.
I like it. Thank you, Doobeious (or should I say Textor nominatum, or something along those lines).
Thanks for the second chance, Doob! I really like the names you’ve come up with so far - so here’s more about me, if you feel like classifying a Wozzo.
My nickname “Wozzo” came from “wozzle mouse,” which just seemed right at the time. I’m a 51-year-old mother of two teenagers (girl 17, boy 13), and I’ve been married to the same guy for much longer than I’d ever have thought possible (20+ years). I work as a technical writer/editor for a research organization. I have a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master’s and all but dissertation in English lit (medieval). I’m a highly motivated but relatively inept student of Chinese martial arts. In my early adulthood, I raced cars and taught high school chemistry. I can still actually beat my son at wrestling (he’s on his school team), but that will be true for only another month or so (I’d guess). I like headbanger music.
Muchas obligadas por su nombre! Me gusta mucho, y lo tomare donde voy.
::runs in::
pant pant
Am I too late?
Add me to the list please Doobie!!
Doobieous.
Doobieous.
Doobieous.

Damn, I hate it when I get Doper Names wrong. Mea culpa.
[sub]And I was trying for Name Weaver with the textor bit. Thought I should explain since I don’t know Latin.[/sub]
