So, how do you feel?
I did it in the other direction, j&j after Pfizer, and i feel like i was hit by a truck.

Oof, sorry to hear that. Feeling fine myself so far.
Sorry for my confusion, but is the common wisdom in this thread that folk who originally received the JJ shot are best served by getting a Moderna booster? Rather than Pfizer - or another JJ?
Looking at my local pharmacy, they seemed to indicate JJ folk could only get the JJ booster there, but I have not yet widened my search.
Here’s some good discussion in the article below. From my perspective, early on there was something…somewhere…that talked about the positive effects of Moderna on top of J&J. Now that the internet has been flooded with news about vaccine mixing I can’t find it, but whatever…I just wanted to get an mRNA booster on top of my J&J. That said, the fact that the Pfizer booster is a full dose, vs a half dose for Moderna, is giving me some belated, very mild regrets (similar to the ones I had when J&J proved less effective). But, whatever. Just glad that my system is getting some kind of pick-me-up.
Mix-and-match Covid vaccine boosters explained: Pfizer, Moderna and J&J (cnbc.com)
My shoulder really hurts today! Otherwise still good.
I think that most pharmacies only offer one type at each location. For example at the cvs I went to they only offer moderna. But if I had scheduled at a different cvs I would have gotten Pfizer.
Eh, the half dose of Moderna is still more active ingredient than that full dose of Pfizer. Moderna went to market with a 100μg dose, and Pfizer with 30μg of a very similar product. The half dose of Moderna is 50μg.
My guess is they are comparable.
I feel a lot better, today. My arm is still a little sore, but mostly I’m fine, now. And hey, soon I’ll be invincible.
I got a Moderna booster today, having had the J & J in March.
The day after my initial vaccination I felt tired and flu-ish for a day, and was fine after that. A little soreness at the site of the shot, but I don’t consider that a “side effect”. Will be interested to see how the Moderna affects me tomorrow, if at all.
My flu shot is scheduled for Monday, so I’ll probably get my COVID booster the following week. The Walgreens nearest to me has Pfizer, so that’s probably what I’ll get.
The reason I got J&J in the first place is because I do have serious food allergies, and I’m terrified of an anaphylactic reaction. I know the chance is vanishingly small, but panic doesn’t listen to logic. However, I’m going to yank up my big girl pants and get it done, because COVID isn’t messing around.
Here’s the straight Dope on allergies and covid vaccines, confirms that it’s safe for you. Even sorts out what ingredient/potential allergen is in each vaccine. From the CDC:
PEG and polysorbate are closely related to each other. PEG is an ingredient in the mRNA vaccines, and polysorbate is an ingredient in the J&J/Janssen vaccine.
If you are allergic to PEG, you should not get an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine. Ask your doctor if you can get the J&J/Janssen vaccine.
If you are allergic to polysorbate, you should not get the J&J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine. Ask your doctor if you can get an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine.
If you have had an immediate allergic reaction—even if it was not severe—to a vaccine or injectable therapy for another disease, ask your doctor if you should get a COVID-19 vaccine. Your doctor will help you decide if it is safe for you to get vaccinated.
CDC recommends that people get vaccinated even if they have a history of severe allergic reactions not related to vaccines or injectable medications—such as food, pet, venom, environmental, or latex allergies. People with a history of allergies to oral medications or a family history of severe allergic reactions may also get vaccinated.
I got Modena today after J&J in April (snagged a last-minute appointment at CVS). J&J had me feeling a little achy for a day. No noticeable side-effects from moderna yet. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow.
Thank you. I know all of that, inside and out, but like I said, panic doesn’t care about logic. I’ll muscle through it, but it won’t be fun. That’s okay, though. I can do this!
Vaccine doses need to be understood correctly, and I’m not certain about this. Doses are sometimes stated in mL (milli-Liters) of vaccine, but are sometimes stated in mg (milligrams) or maybe mcg (micrograms) of the active ingredient. I don’t know where that 0.25mL number came from, but I think the dose as I’ve commonly seen it cited is:
But now I can’t find a cite for those figures, so I’m going by my recollection that these are micrograms of the active ingredient.
Okay, I found a page that clarifies this. The original Moderna shots are 100 mcg (yes, micrograms) per 0.5 mL dose, and boosters are the same formula but 50 mcg per 0.25 mL dose.
Scroll down to find the codes 91301 for the primary Moderna shots and 91306 for the Moderna booster. Hover over the links to see the dosage details.
Thanks, that’s helpful. When I got my notification/receipt after getting the vaccine, it just had the 0.25mL.
I got a J&J last March, and a Pfizer booster yesterday - feel fine. And I got a card this time!
Yay - just got Moderna booster over prep JJ.
No wait at the local food store/pharm.
Just chiming in to say I got a Pfizer booster on Saturday. First dose was a J&J in April. Feeling like crap never felt so good, for about 24 hours. : )
Incidentally, the pharmacist showed me the Docket app for easy retrieval of immunization/booster records. I haven’t had a chance to poke about and really look at it. Anyone else tried it? Opinions?https://docket.care/
In case anyone is wondering about whether their state has a similar app (Docket seems to apply to NJ and MN so far)…
To follow up: Pain around the injection site, and maybe slight headache the day after. Two days after (i.e. today), just fine.
Sister-in-law got the same booster the day after I got it, and it seems to be kicking her ass a little harder. Mostly achiness and sleepiness.
Nothing other than a little shoulder pain for me or my wife. Well worth the peace of mind.
Man, I hope sensible people getting boosters and vaccinating their kids goes a long way to offsetting the idiots.
