Getting calls from a blocked number - iPhone XS

I have an iPhone XS; recently installed iOS 13.1.2.
After a couple of calls from an unfamiliar number in a part of the country I’ve never been, with no messages left, I blocked the number. Yet, I continue to get calls from that number - at least 9 in the last 3 days. I’ve never answered and they’ve never left a voicemail. The number appears on my blocked list, but the phone keeps ringing anyway.

What’s going on here? Have the scumbag robocallers figured out a way around call blocking? Is there a glitch in the new operating system? Is there something wrong with my phone? Help!

Just a guess, but caller-id can be easily spoofed – the number that appears on your caller id does not have to be the actual phone number that the call is coming from. Seems like scammers could easily use this to avoid being blocked.

But call blocking works off of Caller ID. If a number is blocked, it shouldn’t ring even if it is a spoofed number.

Had a friend who experienced the same problem as you on an older version of iOS. What he had to do was first block the number then add them to contacts. He made a new contact card called “Spam” and kept blocking and adding new numbers to this card and voila, no more blocked calls coming through. Just remember not to delete the numbers from your phone.

FYI, starting with iOS 13, you can send all unrecognized callers straight to voicemail, and do it silently. It won’t help if you use your phone for business, but my personal iPhone has been largely silent since iOS 13 came out. And, a quick glimpse at your list of VMs easily weeds out the scammers as their messages are usually <5 secs. Anything longer is worth further review.

This is fantastic news! I’m surprised Apple doesn’t make this feature more well-known.
I just turned it on; hope it works as advertised!
