Gettysdope II pictures and recap

Wow. I’d vote for you to be the official fest photographer for all time. Lovely!

The group shot is 1788.

Nice pix, tris – apparently you can do a nice snapshot in addition to, yanno, blah blah jigsaw stuff.

I don’t have time now, but I could work on some descriptions to add to your listings.

And RT – thanks for the pix you didn’t post!

… what’s with all the books?

I wish my pictures didn’t come out so dark, but shooting into the bright outdoors will have that effect.

We did a book exchange – everyone brought a book or three they were willing to release back into the wild. I snagged William Least Heat Moon’s PrairyErth and The Devil Wears Prada.

PrairyErth isn’t a journey like Blue Highways or River-Horse, but it takes an interesting approach. William Least Heat-Moon rocks!

Cool! I picked up PrairyErth at a used-book sale some time ago. Read it once, enjoyed it, but realized I wasn’t likely to give it a second read anytime soon, hence its appearance on the book-exchange table. Enjoy!

That was yours? I was wondering. I read Blue Highways 20 years ago and liked it, but haven’t read his other books. I’m a sucker for long deep meditations on a narrow subject, esp. when they’re well written – and that looks like what this is. I’ll let you know what I think – it’s going with me on my beach vacation next week, but so are about 20 other books, so I’m not promising to read it immediately.

Yeah, you can thank RT for not posting pics of you…a couple of Triskadecamus’s pics have lovely shots of my gigantic derriere. Urrrrrrrgh.

Not actually mortified, just… someone needs to start exercising or something. Deeeern.

I’ve loved every DopeFest I’ve ever attended, and this one was no exception!

Nice photos, Tris! Thanks for taking them.

Loved the pictures Tris. Is there anyone else besides the folks that posted, that has photos?

I have some, but they’re all of Aaron. His nose is pretty scraped up, but they’re superficial and healing nicely.

Last night, I made a lovely creamed-corn-and-ham casserole. Mmmm… :stuck_out_tongue: (lipsmacking, not sticking-out-the-tongue)

That’s something Tris and I were discussing-digital cameras behave like their film based elders-if you point the camera at an area which isn’t brightly backlit (think drop the camera direction 30-45 degrees down from horizontal) and apply the partial push to the shutter button and then take in the backlit scene, the metering will set and hold the exposure for the dark foreground. Your background will wash out, but your foreground will be properly exposed. Play around with your camera to see how it behaves-you may have special settings-mine has a ‘portrait’ mode which meters foreground only.

Kudos, Sir. You’re a candid master-I’m envious of your ability to see. Thank you for sharing your prints, also.

I used photshop on the ones I saved and they came out very nice. . I have the same problem when I use our digital camera too.

Yeah, my camera has a “backlight” mode, which I just completely forgot about. Oh well, maybe I can do some Photoshopping, as well.

Did I say “if”? Whoa - must’ve been a typo. But I think I’ll pass on this new magic trick you’re considering (and so will Rock, the dog)

and though I’m a computer programmer I’m far from geekdom. But I have to agree with Catsix and say eight (but I’ve been known to see sixteen a few times in my life)

danceswithcats - You’re chile was fantastic! Of course I tried them both and surprisingly I prefered the mild one. I say surprisingly because my small garden currently has 24 hot pepper plants. But then I usually make my chile mild. A lot of work but well worth it. I’ve googled piquins - had no idea they were hot peppers. I’ve never seen the fresh versions at the greenhouses.

About the black raspberries…

Were they hand picked by the person who brought them? Just seeing (and eating) them took me back many years.

All the photos I took under the pavillion were dark. I used Picasa2 on them. Not as densly featured as Photoshop, but then I don’t know how to use Photoshop, so it works out fine for me. Free too. Google it.

I am having the last of the Kimchi right now.

Tris

Damn, and I was in Gettysburg on 7/5 and 7/24. You’d think I could coordinate better.
