GF is going to Costa Rica for a year, advice needed

Hi all, been a long time since ive really posted on here, life just got busy. Well, now its about to get very slow, GF is prepping to go to Costa Rica to teach english for a year, and I just lost my job (not part of the question, just pointing out how slow it is and how much slower its going to get).

Anyway, I would like to know;

Has anyone been there (for work, vacation, or otherwise)?

Anywhere you recommend visiting down there?

Anywhere in Panama you recommend going to for her border runs?

Any good restaurants?

Internet cafe’s?
She will be in San Jose at least for the first couple months, then moved to the town where she will be working, but that town is unknown for the moment.

Thanks

Here, have a few recent threads that touch on that (hey, I’m being lazy and don’t feel like writing again the recomendation for Barrahonda):

Expat retirement

Plans

Moving

kimera is there right now, as you see from the last thread.

Hey, if GF is going to be in Costa Rica for a year, this is probably going to be the most useful board thread for you …

So… goes your girlfriend want you in Costa Rica?

Because that seems like the most important question after whether you want to be there.

Say good bye to your GF.

Forever.

This.

Umm, Im not moving to Costa Rica, she is, I just plan to visit.

Wow, thats very useful advice, seems kind of rude and out of place to me. I was looking for advice on places to go down there, see my OP.

Go with her, get a job teaching English.

Its been a thought, Biggest issue is its a year contract, and I would have had to sign up 6 months ago.

You don’t have to sign up with the same agency she did. When I was in Guatemala there were any number of places I could have just walked into and gotten a job teaching or tutoring English. I don’t know your age, your means, or how the relationship is with your GF but if you aren’t working, have a little cash saved up, and don’t have any other pressing obligations this may be a perfect opportunity to take off and have an adventure. You’d want to do the appropriate research about getting visas etc, but were I in your shoes I would be figuring out how I could spend a year down there.

Well I’m sure her new BF Alfonso will know plenty of places to take her.

Jus’ say’n.
