Gibbbles Chips, WTF?

So here I am in the US on vacation. I went to the store to get a bag of Gibble’s, my favorite potato chips. Wonderful things.

So when and why and how did they change Gibble’s? They are now light an fluffy, not thick and cruchy.

Who is resposible for this atrocity?

What part of the US are you in? I have never heard of Gibble’s.

I am based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. I am in Maryland now. Gibble’s are produced in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

Following the link at Chip of the Month, it looks like Gibbles was owned by Agrilink foods, which got bought by Birdseye.

All in all, a major reason for returning to the US has been eliminated for me.

I feel your pain, sorta. I used to be able to get them here (South Jersey) and when I was at college (Virginia Tech). The sour cream and onion flavor were some of the best chips ever. I haven’t been able to find them around here for about 15 years though.

May I suggest Grandma Utz’s Hand (or Home?) Cooked chips as a substitute? Note these aren’t the regular Utz chips - these cost a little more and are in a light brown bag. Nice and thick and crunchy.

Those Grandma Utz thick, crunchy chips are cooked in real lard. They are the best potato chips in the world. Bar none.

Utz is another Pennsylvania-based brand of chips. You are unlikely to find them outside of the Northeast.

I grew up in PA, but moved down South, so now I can’t get my hands on Gibbles (Nibble with Gilbbles!) or Utz.

They’re pretty readily available in North Carolina.

Looks like you’re on the southernmost edge of their availability. From their site:

If a major reason you came back to the US is for chips…you really need to examine your priorities.
As for Utz…I live 50 miles noth of Charlotte and we have them here.

You need to get your hands on a bag of Middleswarth BBQ chips. You’ll forget all about Gibbles.

I am very sorry you disapprove of how I live my life.

I can see the OP's point. I once drove 500 miles out of my way to buy a book that I wanted because , well, I just wanted it.
Haven't you ever just wanted something and noone else understood it? Have you no passion man? I mean what else would you go to the states for?
Besides, how do you figure a jones for potato chips is at all a priority? I'm sure the real priority was making sure a bulkhead or emergency exit seat was obtained for the flight over here! Now THATS a priority!

Not to worry, There’s a brand here in the Pacific Northwest called Tim’s that are thick and CRUNCHY. Hawaiian chips are thick too.

Since the specific OP has been answered, I’d invite anyone who wishes to continue a discussion of their favorite chips to IMHO. If you want to flame someone on their priorities, Reeder, take it to the Pit.

Closed, before it gets worse.
