Somehow, I managed to get some money for my annual trip to the APE (Alternative Press Expo meet) in San Francisco; the dates for the convention are on February 1st and 2nd.
Any BADs interested on meeting me there, or elsewhere, in the SF bay area? I tried to do this last year but the boards went dead around that time, (It almost happened again!) so I missed the chance to meet anybody from the Bay Area.
My stay in the bay area will be brief, but I will extend it if you need help or want to have some interesting conversations with a former inhabitant of the bay!
The APE is not like any other comic book convention, it is less super hero Marvel/DC stuff, it is for the independent publishers, and we get to meet and get sketches from the creators. One could find comic creators from the Internet, alt media, educational, adult, and even a Jack Chick booth last year!!
Sometimes, even creators that are not involved show up just to see the new talent, last year my nephew ran into Matt Groening of Simpsons fame and I totally missed him! He got a signed sketch of Homer Simpson though! [Green with envy]
If we meet I will tell you how I virtually stole some of Keith Knight’s original artworks.
I think I will hang around for a week or so, any other ideas were I can meet you?
[sub]Plus: As a tech, I am willing to check any computer needs you have and in exchange get whatever you want to give for my services. ( money to get back home ) [/sub]
I guess it would be a meet in a restaurant or diner, close to the convention, before or after it on Saturday or Sunday, after that, I am open for anything around the bay from Wednesday to Friday, or more days after. (subject to demand or relatives)
Forgot to mention that when I lived in the bay area, I usually hanged around the Berkeley-Oakland area, I don’t know much of the restaurants in San Francisco. I am open to your ideas on were to meet in SF.
My suggestion was Max’s Diner on 3rd street, since it’s sort of in the area of your convention. (If you’re staying at a hotel nearby or in the Union Square area.) We had a pretty good Dopefest there a few months back and everyone seemed to have a good time. It’s fairly convenient to BART/MUNI, but if you’re walking from 7th Street I’d advise you to walk briskly, stay with a group, and keep your hand on your wallet.
They have the usual extensive selection of diner style food (some pasta as well I think) and they have a bar for anyone feeling drinky. All ages welcome!
Ok, I think I can go for that voguevixen, on Saturday I can be at Max’s diner around 6:00 pm or we can do it Sunday, in the morning from 10:00 to 12:00 am.
Please mention which of those times we can meet so I can plan ahead.
If anybody is going to the con, we can set a time to meet also there, just e-mail me.
I could do Saturday night. Or Thursday night if you happen to still be in town for whatever reason. I’m coming from about an hour away, and am rarely dressed before noon. So mornings are out for future reference, hee hee.
I was planning on heading over to the city sometime this afternoon anyway, probably. So myself and my SO may be there at 5:00. (Sorry for the late RSVP – with the boards down and everything I just got wind of this.) Anyway, count me down as a “maybe.”
