Gilmore Girls - Season 3 begins

I admit it, I’m addicted to this show. The dialog, the characters, the assumption that everyone watching will get obscure literary or musical references… I just wish the title didn’t make it sound as if I was into watching a soap opera about debutantes. Well, whatever.

I’m a bit thrown off by the fact that Kirk is now a billed character; he was good as an occasional gag, but I don’t want him to be a regular. He seems like the most unrealistic character on the show.

And I’m bummed that we didn’t get to see how Paris reacted to her first date. My boyfriend is convinced that she’s going to take the Lorelai route; get pregnant and drop out of school.

The Jess thing… I have no idea. Dean has become a hollow caricature of the dogged boyfriend, and Rory’s newfound devotion to him smacks of charity. But seeing Jess swapping tongue with some unnamed blonde was unexpected.

Any bets as to how the season will play out? How Christopher will work in? Whether Jess and Dean will get into a fistfight over Rory? Whether Lorelai will drink enough coffee to actually jitter herself into a parallel dimension?

Whatever happens, I look forward to another season of witty bon mots, sly insults, and (there is a god watching over TV after all) intelligent characters.

I may be reading too much into this, but doesn’t it seem wierd that Jess and that girl were at the big Summer Festival? It’s the kind of thing he would normally scoff at. I wonder if we will find out that he planted himself there because he was expecting Rory to show up and was trying to make her jealous. Although that doesn’t exactly seem like him, either.

Also, I am embarrassed to say that I totally fell for Lorelai’s dream thing at the beginning. D’oh!

Is Rory old engouh now for me to be thinking what I think you are thinking I’m thinking about her?

If not I’ll stop.

ppfffttttt yeah right

My wife and I turned to each other and simultaneously asked, “Did we miss an episode last season, WTF?” D’oh, indeed.

I feel better knowing I’m not the only one. I was watching the scene in the kitchen, thinking to myself that it was about time Loralai and Luke got together, and just as I was trying to remember how that happened she woke up. Then, I felt dumb.
