Gilmore Girls 9/26

Am I the only one who’s very disappointed with the season premiere? I know that it was the best outcome stemming from the cliffhanger from last season, but MAN! So many bad things happening as the opening episode feels like such a downer. Even the writing seems to have suffered with the loss of Ms. Palladino.

Though I am amused that Taylor will get his comeuppance for that stupid red light camera. TAKE THAT YOU POMPOUS BLOWHARD!

And the sneak peek for next week makes me want to hit Luke for being such an oblivious and vengeful jerk.

GAH! This season may make me stop watching my favorite show. Stupid Luke. Stupid Lorelai.

Bah. The season finale was enough to turn me off to that damn show. I sort of got unwillingly sucked in, and even started liking it. But really it was just Stockholm Syndrome. Finally the idiocy was just too much to bear.

My neices had a party to coincide with last night’s episode, featuring foods highlighted on the show, and taped the show for post-show discussions. I forgot to turn the TV on until the last five minutes, so all I saw was the rocket ship story, the talk with Logan by phone…why is she pissed that he’s made all these plans already?..and the humiliation of Luke. I think I need to watch the tape before I give up on Lorelai, but I don’t know when I’ll have the energy to deal with her pig-headedness.

Rory’s upset because she had this vision of spending the whole summer with Logan, but Logan bought her ticket for three weeks at Christmas. She wanted to go right over there and pick up where they left off when he left and he had already made a unilateral decision that her visit would be six months away. For only a few weeks.

Yet again, a Gilmore is disappointed with someone for not reading her mind…

this show is always more fun when you play the “SHUT UP RORY / SHUT UP LORELAI” game. It even had a SHUT UP LUKE moment. At the beginning of the episode where Lorelai was barely talking, I felt extremely disturbed.

I’ll give it another episode or two before deciding whether it is still worth my time, especially since Tuesday nights are so packed. I also need to try the Gilmore/Mars combo at least once.

I was kind of upset that Lorelei had left her payment on Christopher’s nightstand when she rushed out of there at the beginning of the show. But I got over it.

I don’t think Logan meant to send a rocket. I think he ordered a silver locket. And when Rory figures this out, she is going to be so disappointed and embarassed, because she gave Little Lord Fauntleroy too much credit for being deep.

I still hate everyone on the show. Except Paris. I’m so glad she’s back to her former nutty controlling self.

It felt somehow wrong. Like there wasn’t enough noise or talking… and I’m not sure if that’s my imagination because I know the Palladinos are gone, or there really wasn’t enough noise because it wasn’t there on accident, or if there wasn’t enough noise because of some stylistic choice of the new director.

But it all felt vaguely wrong.

Rory didn’t bother me that much this week. And I get why she was disappointed, but she should have said something.

Paris was lovely though.

I thought it was very good, although I’m the only person on the planet who liked (loved, actually) last season’s finale. I felt that the characters were in character, and they sounded like themselves (a pleasant surprise given the loss of the Palladinos). Lorelai and Rory didn’t speak in their usual pop-culture code, which will take some getting used to, but they retained their normal speech rhythms, which was good enough. I’m champing at the bit for next week.

As far as I’m concerned this show jumped the Shark with Luke’s daughter. Utterly unbelievable. A poor unnecessary and plot devise to keep up the on again off again romantic tension between Luke and Lorelei. Things have just been going down hill since then. I’m just going to watch old episodes in syndication and skip the rest of this season.

The dialog between mother and daughter seemed off. Maybe it was just too casual considering Lorelai’s situation. I think I would have enjoyed itmore in other circumstances.

I think the Palladinos left the new guy in a jam. I’m willing to allow a couple of transitional episodes to get on track.

I agree. I actually really liked it. I loved that we got long speeches from characters who don’t usually get speeches (Luke and Sookie). Luke seemed to be doing a Nicholas Cage impression at the end though.

I thought all the characters seemed right. More right then they did in some of the episodes last season (Think about the Daniel Palladino episode was toward the end of last season. Want to see a terrible episode watch that one)The only off thing was Lorelai getting rid of everything that reminded her of Luke… since we saw Rory do that in season 2 with Dean. You’d expect some sort of reference to it in this episode.

Am I the only one who just knew the first thing Lorelei would do is go to Christopher? Personally I think L & C just need to wind up together and the writers should let Luke find somebody worthy of him. Though, I agree that the whole “April” thing just shouldn’t have ever happened. What the heck’s Luke need with a daughter anyway? I really hope Luke just decides it’s not worth it with Lorelei.

I think Rory should get on a plane and go to London anyway. Then Logan and she could run off to Paris, get married and die a horrible death together when their Air France flight bursts into flame on it’s way to China. What can I say, I’m a horrible romantic and so sick of those two.

And where were Emily and Richard! We need Emily and Richard!
