Respectfully disagree to some extent. Rory left the country after the Dean bedding not because of the Dean situation but because of Lorelai’s reaction to it.
I didn’t mean to imply that it is a repetition, it is indeed a continuation of the theme. It’s actually the begining of Rory’s current “Isn’t it great to be rich and white in America” arc. The current state of the GmoreGs relationship is as much about Lorelai as it is Rory. Whereas the European escape was solely Rory getting away from mom. This time each of them is separating from each other. Lorelai is disappointed with Rory because Loreali honestly thinks she raised Rory better and warned her of the pitfalls of the privliege and Rory still fell into it.
Rory is trying to define herself now that the previous way she defined (smarty journalism Yalie) herself has been shattered.
Fair point. Maybe she was able to get the churches to give them the room for free. I don’t think her influence extends to the wallets of the parishioners and their teenage kids though. Even if they were able to get $5 at the door (which I seriously doubt), they still need to get 80 people in there to get $400 from the door.
Plus, I’m also skeptikal of the churches willingness to go along with this deal if it’s to be a money making operation for the band. If Lane’s mom comes to them and says “My duaghter and her band want a place to play so they can get some experience on stage and get their name out there”…that would be one thing. If it’s “My daughter and her band want to get some money together so they can record, can you please donate your facilities”…that another kettle of fish. Would everyone involved be as charitable in the latter situation?
OK, now I’ve officially waaaay overanalysed this crappy episode. Based on the first couple eps, I thought this might be a decent season. This one makes me reconsider that conclusion.
After giving it some thought, I’ve come to agree about the band issue. But I liked the rest of the episode, except the producers’ cruelty in not showing us Lorelai’s flashing the group.
I agree. Now if only we were Emmy voters.
