Jesus Christ Almighty. So the people who are saying he was right, are you really sure you want to go down that path? Implying that men just can’t control their impulses, and so of course he was right? And should she have to cover up while she’s on the bus?
I rarely scream 'SLIPPERY SLOPE!" but this is the perfect example to me. He should have to suck it up and deal with it. I agree wholeheartedly with Boggette. This is only one of the many reasons I live outside my mother country - so I can dress how I want, in a casual setting, and not have men freak at the sight of exposed cleavage.
The only question I had was already answered by the original poster. That was “cite?”.
Mmmmm…SLIPPERY SLOPES…Yes, sucking up and dealing with them would definitely be the right thing to do.
(sorry Mika, couldn’t resist)
If the facts of the story as are reported, I think he did the right short-term thing by asking her to move so that he could keep driving (although if he was an asshole about it, that’s points against him).
BUT if he’s that easily distracted, he shouldn’t be driving the bus. If he was as distracted by traffic noise, or the brightly-coloured shapes of passing cars, he’d have the same problem, and he shouldn’t be driving the bus then, either.
It’s time for inadequate men to stop blaming women for their inadequacies. If you’re distracted by women, it’s not the women’s fault.
“Slippery slopes”? “Suck it up”? Is it me, or is it getting hot in here?
BabelFish does an pretty good job of translating Ein Busfahrer fühlte sich durch den tiefen Ausschnitt der 20-Jährigen so verwirrt, dass er nicht mehr fahren konnte from the main article as: A bus driver felt so confused by the deep cutout of the 20-year old that he could not drive no more, and the text Im Shirt mit sexy Dekolletee - so wollte ein Lindauer Stadtbusfahrer Debora Moscone (20) nicht im Bus sehen from the picture subtitle as In the Shirt with sexy Dekolletee - in such a way a Lindauer did not want to see city bus driver Debora Moscone (20) in the bus.
I’ve definitely seen much more “over the top” outfits while riding NYC subways and buses… It helps that I’m fairly tall and have a good view from above, though, and wear dark sunglasses in the summertime.
If the driver is distracted by anything, he should takes steps to eliminate the distraction. I don’t care whether it’s a large-breasted woman with a low-cut shirt, or a red-haired guy in a hawaiian shirt, or a teenager talking on the cell phone too loud. It’s purely a safety issue; the driver should not be driving while distracted.
Now if it’s the case that the driver gets distracted too easily and frequently, then I would fire him. A driver must learn to focus on the road. We don’t know this driver’s history…maybe he’s just having a bad day. If he’s like this all the time, he should be fired.
Either way, while he’s on the road it’s his call.
:smack: :smack: Oh God. All you men.
If the driver gets so distracted by a cleavage, what would happen if he saw something shiny?
He wanted to get a grip, on his gear shifter but unfortunately he could do that while driving the bus.
Cleavage can be shiny under the right circumstanc–er, what was I saying?
I’m afraid it’s hardwired, Anaamika. Thetre’s nothing any of us can do…
Edit: Except be civilised and restrain ourselves.
What exactly is he being ‘distracted’ by? A woman? He’s surely seen women before. Her clothing? He’s seen clothing before.
If the driver were perhaps 14 then I could understand that he could look at an adult woman and be unable to think about anything but sex. But the idea that an adult male is unable to control himself is ridiculous.
What? It would be ok for me to get ‘distracted’ everytime I see some hottie on the platform and be unable to drive my train? Yeah right. Any professional driver does not allow themselves to be distracted by something so mundane and ordinary as what the passengers look like. This driver purports to be a professional carrying out a professional job - shouting at passengers just to humiliate them is not part of that.
Maybe it was a bumpy ride, and she was, um, “bouncy”.
Looking is Ok. Admiring is OK. Within reason.
Other than that you just gotta deal. And I really don’t believe the young lady had on anything particularly enticing. I can imagine, she was probably sitting in such a way to make it drop even lower… The man has a mental level of a teenager - and I do apologize to the teens for dragging them in here - not to be able to drag his eyes away and do his job.
It does smack of old-world ideas that a woman showing off too much skin is distracting to a man and therefore shouldn’t be allowed to show off too much skin. If you look and can’t control yourself the fault lies in you, not me.
There’re times I’m glad I’m riding the bus instead of driving it…
heh…he said "hard"wired.
Men are impossible to please. We wanna see we wanna see we wanna see…but don’t you dare show it off! I’m sure we’ll get some sensible input when Mr. BusGuy shows up.
And FWIW the driver sounds like an ass. Probably wears a black leather SS cap when he’s off duty.
Did you look at her picture? If it was bouncy enough for her to distract him, then the bus was going down stairs and he had other problems.
You love us and you know it.
I certainly agree with that. He should have treated the situation more delicately. However, something tells me that there is more to the story…
I am not sure about Germany but in this country a GUY with boobs bigger than the woman’s could go out topless in public and get on the bus and nothing could be done about it!
My question is how does this distract him? He said he saw it in the rear view mirror. He’s not driving a VW Micro bus, he’s driving a city bus. There is no rear view mirror like your car or mini van! He can’t see out the back, there’s no back window. I know there’s a mirror for checking on the passengers. But it’s for just that, looking at the passengers. Its not used in driving. That’s the only mirror he would have seen her in. Simple fix, don’t look at it. You don’t need to.
I’ll add that she’s a cute girl but it doesn’t seem she was dressed in any sort of shocking manner.
