Girl on bus penalized for having big 'uns

Is it just me, or should the word “cleavage” only apply when the breasts actually touch each other? Just being able to see the busty substances, in this case centimetres from each other, needs another word - decolletage perhaps.

Things you come across while researching other things:

I don’t think the driver should be fired. But I think he ought to apologize to the woman.

FWIW I strongly suspect that what was reported isn’t the whole story. What’s in the article is the story as told by the young woman, plus a statement from the bus company which seems to be more on an abstract point. Very possibly the company did not even get back to the bus driver before responding to the press query.

My theory is that she and the bus driver had a conflict regarding some other question of disruptive or dangerous behaviour, her décolletage was perhaps mentioned in an aside and she seized on the sort of narrative narrative that vindicated her and was sure to get her picture (by way of evidence) into the paper.

PUH lease! Being testy is grumping “exact change ONLY!” or “down in back”. What this man did was cuckoo, not “testy”.

If this man exhibits a bad day by not being able to handle a very G rated fashion statement, he is truly not fit to drive a bus.

Are we sure that this story isn’t some kind of hoax? I am having a hard time believing that the driver did behave in this manner, but I’m having an even harder time believing that he was backed up by his company for “safety concerns”.

If the man actually believed that his driving was at stake and the other passengers were in potential danger because of that young woman (unremarkable ) and what she was wearing, he’s got psychological problems.

And if, as someone pointed out, Europeans are so much more open about nudity and sexuality than we are, how does that fit in here? There is no way in hell an American bus driver would be able to get away with even saying that. He’d be laughed off the planet by his fellow drivers, and that’s just to start, can you imagine the outrage if that happened here?

I’m kind of surprised at how many people think the driver did the right thing. I don’t understand that because as you said the guy must have psychological problems if he really thought his driving would be hampered. I mean unless she had magic boobs that were speaking to him or something.

What big 'uns?

I had two German coworkers for the last six months who showed more cleavage in regular T-shirts than that girl in the pic. Then again, they had actual cleavage, she doesn’t.

Sure hope that dude never gets a job driving German tourists to Spain. I’ve seen priests point the “must wear at least shorts and a T” sign at church a couple times and it was never to someone who talked with her hands.

Agreed. Night curfews for girls, headscarves and burqua’s can be found just a little but further down that slope.

Funnily enough, the same argument has been made, albeit unsuccesfully, in the Netherlands. Some people called for a ban on large advertisement posters depicting semi-nude women, next to busy roads Underwear advertisementposters for instance. The grounds were that they might distract drivers and cause accidents. The ban never made it.

OtOH, there is really no socially graceful way in which a guy can say that cleavage is distracting him too much. (I’m a girl, and sometimes I feel the saem way if a person has a particularly poppable zit on their nose, ya know?)
The only thing a guy can do with such cleavage is look at it so often that the girl gets uncomfortable and wears something less revealing next time. But the busdriver couldn’t do that. Add frustration, mayb e a particularly bad day, maybe some resentment because such a girl is SOO out of his leage, and you get this. Understandable, but the guy is still wrong.

If it takes so little to distract that driver, heaven help him if he meets a woman with real cleavage!

Note to self: don’t sit too near the driver on the bus tonight…

Cite??

Backwards, so it can be read easily when the driver looks in the mirror and he doesn’t get distracted trying to figure out what it says

But it would have to be in German. My German is a bit rusty, so we’d need to find some appropriate English to reverse feed into SiouxChief’s translator, e.g.,

“Attention! These are not the road. Please give your eyes the road to!”

Great thread. But this is one of those stories where we’re probably not getting the whole story. Anytime the person in the story seems to have acted in an absolutely insane manner, it usually means there’s something we don’t know. If all of the facts have been accurately reported, then the driver’s a nut case. But I smell another “Man with TB gets on plane, ignoring court order” story here. We didn’t exactly get all of the facts in the initial reporting of that one. All of these stories – Female student, ten, sent home for wearing red; Area man loses job because of toenail length; Pilot lands plane in swamp because of passenger’s BO – all of these stories are reported in such a way to cause maximum astonishment/outrage and attract hits to the paper’s Web site.

I also agree, by the way, that we’re not getting the whole story.

I can’t wait until a female bus driver informs me that my bulging package is such a distraction that she can’t do her job…

(I guess there is an underlying difference between men and women)

Are you boasting?

Yeah, I got kicked off of the schoolbus for that when I was 16…

I can’t decide whether to be amused or rolling my eyes, and am hovering between some combination of the two while checking the cut of my t-shirts, just in case.

You were supposed to keep it inside your trousers.

I’m squeezing them… I’m squeezing them with my fingers.

Wasn’t Condoleezza Rice once told by a foreign leader that she’d have to leave the room because he found her legs ‘distracting’?

I’ve heard this line before from strangers (if I’d heard it from a bus driver, I’d have had him fired). Usually with a smile on their faces. And purring. This is not the first time in history a man has made a younger woman feel ashamed of her body’s ‘power’ over him.
