You’ve seen them time and time again…
Those “Girls Gone Wild” videos that are way cheap.
The girls don’t seem to mind showing their tits for no rhyme or reason…not even for money.
My question to you is this the end product of the feminist movement or is the further objectification of young women?
Should we be disturbed by this? Is it a sign that these women have low self esteem or view their bodies as mere objects to be oogled over & made fun of by both men and women. What does it say about how we value women in today’s culture, has it changed at all from earlier generations? Has the feminist movement failed in teaching women how to value their bodies & minds and for women to communicate that to their male counterparts?
Or is this in fact the result of empowerment – women doing what the fuck they want whenever they want? Who cares if they’ve been drinking if they have the balls to show their tits to an audience and a camera for free… then more power to them??? Most of these ladies know what’s going on here. Are they really having the last laugh?
Actually, I believe that they get t-shirts. Which is ironic, when you think about it.
I imagine the hard-line feminists are appalled. More irony when you consider that these young ladies have gone considerably past burning their bras.
But I find it mildly heartening that girls can go out and party and even flash the camera and yet somehow the social fabric fails to dissolve. Will the videos come back and haunt some of them? Eh, probably. But by and large they go home from spring break and go on to live their normal productive lives. Some of them even possibly unravished. Unlike some societies, there aren’t mad mullahs splashing them with acid, or outraged brothers beating them for shaming their families.
True equality means having the same proportion of women as men failing as well as succeeding. Until women commit suicide, and go bankrupt, and rob banks, and murder tourists, etc., in the same numbers that men do, then equality has not been attained.
We need to have women “public enemies number one” as well as women astronauts, generals, senators, and Fortune 500 CEOs. Anything else is a symptom of limited opportunities.
I have an (almost) 17 yr old son who has seen a GGW video at a friend’s house. After about 10 minutes, they were all ragging on the girls being drunken frothy skanks and such.
They get Mardi Gras beads and free t-shirts and other trinkets.
Women’s bodies are objects – the women themselves treat them as objects – and they have no compunctions about selling them. It’s easy and practical to sell and brings in great returns compared to working hard to build a career. Therefore, any woman with a body in high demand is going to be strongly motivated to sell it, rather than earning equivalent money through a more difficult avenue. We see this happen everywhere all the time. It’s free market economics at work.
If these girls weren’t selling images of their boobies in exchange for a t-shirt, they would be selling a multiyear lease on their vaginas to the groom in exchange for a big rock, a lavish wedding, and half of his assets after the inevitable divorce. I don’t see a morality differential between the two arrangements.
Check back with me the day women stop treating their own bodies as an asset that must be monetized under a rubric of artificial scarcity designed to inflate its value. I’m not holding my breath on that one.
Maybe if American society weren’t so sexually repressed (puritan origin and all that), young boys and girls wouldn’t be so obsessed by brief tit flashes.
Imagine GGW happening on a nudist beach in Croatia ?
My wife makes as much as I do and if we were to get divorced I would still be more than happy to give child support to my daughter. Even if we did somehow end up in this situation, I know and trust my wife enough to know she wouldn’t be spending the money I gave her for our child on herself when she already has a good job.
I’m not saying that there are no women anywhere who see marriage as a meal ticket, but I think your condemning all women without just cause. There really are tons good hearted females in the world. Really!
Absolutely. They show excerpts from the videos on satellite TV in the UK and I’ve seen a couple of shows. My opinion goes from ‘nice tits’ to ‘that is pretty degrading’. The degrading aspect isn’t the girls though, it’s the guys climbing over each other to get a view or a grope. Just makes me cringe!
