Well, I’m even further behind Diosa on the curve; I thought they were Mardi-Gras-style flashing too.
I’m afraid I haven’t got the war in my head. Trashiness isn’t empowerment IMO; rather it’s usually another form of exploitation.
I couldn’t agree with you more dangermom.
Sorry, don’t mean to shit on your parade, tittie-lovers!
My understanding is that the “Girls Gone Wild” machine is a lot darker than a little tipsy flashing.
Founder Joe Francis has been accused multiple times of sexual offenses, most recently on April 25. And he was sentenced to jail on contempt a couple of days ago.
The LA Times did a powerful profile of founder Joe Francis and his techniques: From the Archives: Joe Francis: 'Baby, give me a kiss'
It’s certainly a two-way street, in that the women participate (up to a point) out of a desire for adventure and attention. Here’s an excerpt from the story:
Here’s another girl’s account:
He also physically assaulted the reporter and then told her editors that she had the hots for him.

Oh my, my day has taken a downward turn now that I’ve had my dream of getting WhyNot to show me her breasts in exchange for a string of beads dashed against the rocks of reality.
Show the beads you’re going to send me, and maybe I’ll show you my breasts - and they better not be those cheapie thingies, either ![]()
My main problem with Girls Gone Wild videos (well, other than the legal problems pointed out in Clark’s post), is that while it is porn, the performers are paid a pittance, if any!!! They’re being exploited, whether or not it is consensual (and I don’t see how consensual it can be if one of the parties is too intoxicated).
Heck, if I bared my breasts to the world (or at least the men who will be jerking off while/after seeing them), I would like to be compensated for that, thank you very much. I would like some percent of all that profit the videos generate.
I think that some may see the appeal of not taking a profit as “it’s not really porn/I’m not in the porn industry”, and see it as more “innocent”. But it is not, the videos ARE porn, and people in the porn industry get paid (and I bet a lot more than these girls). Not doing that, selling themselves for less than their “market value”… that’s explotation.
no, it’s not exploitation.
They aren’t being abused, they aren’t being forced to do anything.
I would say it’s a product of girls desperately seeking attention, the histrionic celebrity culture that’s been worked in to everybody. They do it because when they do everybody cheers for them, and they’re the center of attention and have POWER over guys (a lot of them tease quite a bit before showing any of the goods, they like having all the guys drooling over them for as long as possible)… it’s sad, but that’s the reason. Low self-esteem.
Daytona beach. Stay at the Desert Inn during spring break weeks. Wow. it was pretty much live Girls Gone Wild.
Well, clearly, they’ve gone wild, you see. Truth in advert, and all that.
I used to think the GGW takes were just videos of girls flashing their titties Mardi Gras style (something my 21 year old self doesn’t really have a problem with- like others have said, when again are our tits going to look this fabulous without the help of a surgeon? Of course, if one wants to participate in such activities, they have to suck it up and deal with the consequences) and then one day I grabbed a copy of my boyfriend’s GGW tapes (a gift from his step-dad, he SWEARS!).
I put that tape in and son of a whore at Mardi Gras- it’s PORN. It’s not just girls flashing, it’s honest to goodness girl on girl hot college co ed porn.
Of course, everytime I bring this up to people they always say, “Well, DUH.” Apparently I was the only person in the world who did not know the true secret of GGW.
Ahemm, so ah… really, for educational purposes, just what exactly is portrayed in these tapes? 'Cause I kind’a thought they were tittie tapes also.
Leaffan, and others interested. You can watch the infomercials (which give a relatively good idea of what is on the videos) late night in Comedy Central (I dunno bout other networks, but I know I’ve seen them there).
I seem to remember, watching the infomercials 6 (damn time flies) years ago, they did look more “innocent” than the more recent ones. As if they’ve tried to be edgier and edgier…
To me, it just looks cheap, shallow and, I’m sorry to say, stupid. Is that how much they value themselves? Is that the picture they want to present of themselves to the world? All for a shiny bauble. Ugh.
No wonder some men don’t respect women.
Well, I generally don’t find myself much involved in character analysis when I see pictures of nekkid hotties dancin’ around. Respect? I don’t think she wanted me to, you know, salute, or anything. Nice tits, honey.
On the other hand, I certainly don’t think that Streets Filled With Drunken Revelers is my best intellectual choice for a place to find a respectable lady. Try the Library. Don’t expect to see any hooters, though.
Tris
What I don’t understand is why girls can show their boobs without legal consequences but if a boy flashes his dick he’ll be prosecuted.
I guess us men are still in control of the universe.

A.) Breasts aren’t considered as shocking as genitalia. There really is no male equivalent to the breast.
B.) If a Woman showed her breasts in the middle of DC or most other cities, she’d get a citation and probably a sobreity test.

I used to enjoy these late night infomercials, but now. . . Boys Gone Wild.
I have nothing against dudes going wild, but it just isn’t something I want to see while waiting for The Daily Show to come back from a commercial.

Just because they aren’t being abused or forced doesn’t mean it isn’t exploitation. Exploitation is the use or utilization, especially for profit.

Well, exactly.
While YOU might not paint all of these girls with the same brush, many do whilst forming an opinion of women in general.
Anyway, those silly broads just need to grow up.
It’s the same reason girls become cheerleaders, join sororities, dance on bars, blow half the football team or become strippers. These girls want desperately to be liked and they’ve figured out that when they sex it up a bit, guys pay attention to them.
I don’t think it’s particularly sad. Let’s face it, there is still a tendency to think of young girls as these fragile little things. I’m pretty sure these girls know exactly what they’re doing and what effect they have on men. I do believe they are a little naive and don’t fully grasp the potential dangers or consequences. For one, the fact that there are psychos like Joe Francis out there (and I do believe he is a sociopath). And there are plenty of sexual predators worse than Francis.
What is it with these girls who get their tits out for a string of coloured beads.
Jeezus ![]()
Yeah, if I want a string of beads I just wait for the drunk titty flashers to pass out and then I steal theirs. There’s no need to unleash the puppies.
I gotta carry me around a pocketful of beads.
A lot of posters have said that these girls get their tits out because they want to be liked.
What? some of, if not all, are gorgeous they are bound to be liked, well I like 'em

You can’t exploit a willing participant, in the traditional sense of the word, at least.
