Girls gone Wild

of course you do, they’re willing to put on a show for you, so you visibly pay more attention them.

(circles around to previous argument about power over, and attention from, large group of people)

That + an environment where they feel that it is safe and acceptable to do so = boobie time!

You can’t show a breast in the Super Bowl half-time show without serious repercussions:

‘On Monday, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Michael Powell ordered an investigation of the incident.

Powell said MTV and the CBS network’s more than 200 affiliates and company-owned stations could be fined $27,500 apiece.
“I think it’s all of their problem,” he said. “The law allows you to reach many of the different parties.” He said he would like to see the enforcement penalties strengthened to 10 times their current amount.’

And of course a woman can’t show her vagina in public without similar consequences to a male flashing his penis.

Most people want to be liked. They’ve just found that certain behavior (ie showing their tits) gets a positve response.

It’s probably worth pointing out at this point that a full half of the population of the US is of below average intelligence.

That’s your reason right there.

Well yes, but you’re hardly in their target “want to be liked by” demographic, now are you? :stuck_out_tongue:

Nor am I. Nor ever was. :frowning:

Good job you’re not interested in their minds, then!

In my experience, the men who don’t respect women wouldn’t respect them, regardless of whether they flashed their tits, or went round in burkas all the time.

I’ll have you know sirrah, that in my youth I was very much desired for my wit, charm, charisma, devilishly handsome appearance, dress sense and absolute modesty.

Pretty much as I am today.

I wish

As a 46 year old man I’d like to point out that I’d lift up my shirt for some beads if anyone is interested.

Is there some correlation between intelligence and exhibitionist behavior? I went to one of the top colleges in the country. It was also one of the top party schools with over 50% of the students in Greek organizations.

The problem some people have with the Girls Gone Wild / Mardi Gras / Spring Break mentality has nothing to do with concern over exploiting women or excessive alchohol abuse. I suspect it has more to do with resentment over the idea that no matter how smart you are or how much you study or how hard you work, it all comes down to how hot you are.

Seconded. The degree to which I respect a person and the degree to which he or she is interested in public semi-nudity are utterly unrelated. I have very little idea why I should lose respect for a woman because (and for no other reason than that) her breasts were visible in public, nor why I should lose respect for a man because he once streaked bare ass naked across a college campus.

The only beads I have are my daughters. Otherwise, I’d oblige.
Of course, to me, beyond a girl showing her tits being all about everything that everyone upthread has talked about. Why is it that guys turn to putty if a girl flashes him? It’s not like most guys haven’t seen every variety of boobie by the time they are about 19.

I recall working in a restaraunt as a waitress and the cook was giving me crap about my order. I flashed him, he complied. End of discussion.

The double standard also seems to exist if the display is unintentional. If a male walks around his home nude, and a passing woman views him, then he is at fault for flashing. If a woman walks around her home nude, a male who sees the display is a peeping tom.

I used to think that all of those babes out there flashing their boobs (and sometimes more) would sometime deeply regret their actions. Every time that happens, it narrows the pool of applicants for tomorrow’s politicians, federal judges, corporate executives and university professors. But I’ve noticed that it’s so damn ubiquitous any more – it’s like, every college girl in America has lifted her shirt some time. Maybe it’ll get to be so commong that, like those of us who smoked pot a time or two back in the Seventies, it’s no big deal.

“So, judge, saw an old YouTube of you the other day – nice rack!”
“Thank you (BANG!) and that’s thirty days for contempt of rack … er court!”

For me, it’s embarrassment. Sounds strange, but when I see those women, I feel ashamed on their behalf. The dorky “look at me” grins as they pull up their shirts and yank up their skirts just make them look desperate and dumb, like toddlers trying to get attention from the adults in the room. That they are supposedly students makes it all the more pathetic, because we expect reasonably intelligent people to have a little more dignity, a little more self-awareness. I suspect the drunken aspect is played up because A) it gives the girls a way not to own up to their own behavior and B) it turns on male viewers because it makes the girls look taken advantaged of and exploited.

It’s not the exhibition that bothers me. It’s the whole “I’ll perform stupid tricks for you on camera if only we both pretend I’m too drunk to exercise good judgement, and you look at me and make me feel hot” mentality that gives me the creeps and makes me want to strangle somebody.

Bolding mine.

Now THAT I find horrifying and disturbing on all levels. Why is it sexually exciting to think someone is being taken advantage of and exploited? My (admitedly limited and grudging) acceptance of pornography in general is due to the fairly new idea that women WANT to be doing it, and it’s empowering to them (see: amateur internet porn, burlesque and female oriented sex shops). The idea that there are men who *prefer *exploitation is terribly uncomfortable to me, but I suspect you’re right.

Well, it’s possible, I suppose. But what the hell, I’ll be a data point. I’m a male, and as far as I’m concerned the sort of thing we’re talking about here depends entirely upon the opposite assumption - that is, it’s a turn-on because it proposes that there are attractive women who actively enjoy casual semi-nudity. Put differently, the idea that there are women who want to show off their bodies is in and of itself appealing, and the primary reason that I’d be interested in something like GGW in the first place (I’m not, actually, because I really don’t have an interest in supporting the company’s creator). Introduce exploitation into the mix, and the whole reason the thing is interesting evaporates.

Hot girl on drunken girl action, duh! :stuck_out_tongue:

Funny enough, one time I was watching Comedy Central or something late at night and a GGW commercial came on. I squealed. There she was- a girl from my high school. I squealed again when the commercial reaired and I was sure. She was laying on a bed, pulling up her shirt and sticking her hand down her pants- attempting to look sexy in the process.

The funny thing was- this girl is not pretty. I mean, her body is ok (really not the GGW standard), but her face. . . eesh. In fact, she originally stood out to me on the commercial because she looked so very different from every other girl on the ad- she was shorter, fatter, paler, flat chested, frizzy haired, and had really awful teeth.

She must have done Anal with Joe Francis or something to get on that tape.

Oh and needless to say, she became the talk of the town. Before long, her parents knew she had been on the tape and had pretty much disowned her. A week later they took her back in after finding out she was pregnant from her crack head boyfriend.

Knowing her as I do, I’d imagine that for her it was definitely an attention thing; maybe an affirmation thing- “I’m hot enough to be on GGW!”. Who knows.

Suppose you are a girl, at a college campus, and you (foolishly) allow yourself to be videoptaped while naked and drunk. now, you see your ass flashed on screens across America-are you owed any part of the profits? or did you sign one of those “fine print” disclosure statements? Seems like the gals who bare their asses ought toget paid for it!
