Girls Week Out at the Beach: An MMP

Part of (a big part actually) of my job is future planning, school attendance boundaries, enrollment projections and the like. About 4 of us do the bulk of the work. Part of said “work” is taking our database of current residential developments, figuring out which ones are still actively building, or have started since last year, and getting projections about how many homes they plan to sell in 6 months, and 12 months.

The best way to do this is to simply hit the road and go talk to the sames people. So a lot of yesterday afternoon and today, the boss and I are doing this, both together and separately. So, you know there’s a house sales slump going on, right?

I am here to tell you, home builder’s sales people are this year’s version of the Maytag Repairman.

Where I used to get in and out of an office in a couple minutes, virtually everyone I visited today wants to sit and chat. Offering me water, coffee, anything to drink, want to see the model? One offered to share her lunch with me.

Not one of about 15 places I visited today had a soul walking in, to see the model homes. The up-side to this, is that home builders seem to be of the opinion that the best people to sell their houses are attractive women. This means that I’ve spent most of the last day or so, visiting bored, lonely nice lookin wimmen, of course with the obligatory swapping of the business card.

Who says working for a school district didn’t have it’s perks?

:stuck_out_tongue:

Glad to hear you’re on to the next round, swampy. Sorry about 3rd shift though. I’m not a night person either so I can certainly understand how much that sucks.

Sounds like fun MBG.

I say, you should swap DNA instead of business cards… If **BusWife **challenges the necessity of this, tell her it’s the only way you can be **certain **of her identity, later…

Home. Tired. Eating cheesy rice.

Wow! Wish we’d all thought of calling your place of work and complaining about Idiot Co-Worker, LiLi. Just think how impressed they would have been by calls from all over the world!

Poor MBG, suffering so greatly for his work. :stuck_out_tongue:

SO, you are a bad influence. (Which is why we love you, of course.)

Yes, swampy, you’re up next. We have no volunteers beyond Monday, so if anyone wishes to reserve a Monday, speak up…

I was born the year Sputnik was launched. (I will officially become a geezerette next month.)

There was more, but I’ve forgotten. (Did I mention I’m old?)

GT

I’m back from supper. No “welcomin’” tonight. Poor thing is just soooooo tired. I told him to go home and go to bed. Makes tomorrow’s official “welcome home” all the more special. Ima do it upright with steaks, baked potatoes, a nice salad, a peach cobbler and a chilled bottle of champagne. Ain’t I just the romantic!

Ok gt I shall be our host with the most.

Oh and peoples… there’s MMPs waitin’ to be had. Those of you who have been slack (and you know who you are) need to step up and volunteer. Even Amurrkin west coasters and such can volunteer. Heck, think about it, if’n you put up the MMP at nine your time Sunday night it’s midnight on the east coast and even later for our Yurpean and Mideast Mumpers. Therefore, I say, there is no excuse for not hosting a MMP. Heck, it ain’t even like we care about time and dates up in here anyways.

I shall expect gt’s sig line to be updated forthwith (is that a word?) with MMP volunteers. No excuses. Don’t look at me like that! I said volunteer and I mean now!

Ok, I’m tahred too. I’m thinkin’ a cold beerverage or two and hittin’ the hay sounds good.

Alrighty then, let’s see some volunteers linin’ up.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

Good news! I’ve submitted all the information for the initial background and credit checks. I wrote of my flaky 3rd reference and found someone else who could do it. Now I wait 5 - 10 business days. Since the person who clears the final reports sits behind me, I’ll know as soon as it does. So, I may be able to quit making COBRA payments soon. That’s a car payment right there. I’m trying to resist the though of buying a new car , but if my Pontiac POS fails smog again this December, I ain’t repairing it.

I had a “fun” incident at work today. The technology-challenged manager I was supporting in my last assignment here, but who (whom?) I don’t support any longer, came barging up to my desk today. I was in the midst of training at the time and she says, I need her. Doesn’t say my name or anything, just “her.” She then proceeds to demand that I send her (personal) fax now. Immediately. Instantly. (The fax machine is 2 desks behind me, but I don’t think she knows that’s what it is.)   From the audience who sees this display. “Are you her assistant?” “Nope.” I spoke with the admin manager afterwards to “clarify” things. We’re all set now, until next time. The policy at my old job was that no assistant was allowed to say no to anyone or any request for any reason. (I’m sure you can see the problems with that, can’t you? Even if the request was illegal/immoral/whatever, we weren’t allowed to say “I can’t do that.”)They don’t have that policy here, thank goodness.

On preview, I’ll do the MMP any open week after 10/15.

Thanks, Lisslar. Sorry about you having to go in–he sounds very irresponsible. If you truly can’t make, you’d better be on death’s door. Grrrr.

I feel better about the pending visit. I found out today (they are late arriving) that they’re going to stay in a nearby hotel. Yay! That takes a huge amount of pressure off me. Also, I went to Boston Market and got dinner. I’ve never been there-it’s that weird? But true. We are now waiting for them to show so that we can eat dinner.

Work was very busy today–I’m one tired bear. Off tomorrow and then work on Saturday. (think of the money…)
Hope to truly catch up with all of you next week, but school is pouring on the pressure. Why am I in grad school again?

Safely ensconsed at Mom’s house. My sweetie is de-stapled. Supper has been et. I’m in my robe, relaxin’. And I’ll take October 29, since **MamaTigs ** and I will be doing a craft show the Saturday before. Who knows - maybe this time I’ll actually remember to post the stupid thing!!

That’s all I’ve got. Gonna join my sweetie in front of the TV.

[Alfred Hitchcock]Good evening.[/AH]

Well, well. I have an iffy signal here, but I do indeed have wireless access at my grandma’s house. It must be a neighbor’s network because when I asked, just in case, if she had it, she looked at me rather blankly and asked, “What’s that?”

Home, had dinner(black bean broccoli stir fry), and am watching hockey on Center Ice Online.

swampy, a cold beerverage is always good.

gt, if I think of something, I’ll volunteer.

Mork, We get Molson around here. This was Canadian Molson the Canes board guy brought down from Toronto. Strangely, I was only one of 3 people who showed up for 4 CASES OF FREE BEER.

Wow, volunteers wandering in from all over the place. I’ve added Jah in for the 22nd and FCM on the 29th. How about if I pencil you in for the 15th, doggio? I’m sure someone else will jump in if you don’t want to…

Watching Pillow Talk, which is still amusing.

Off to beddie bye soon.

GT

Just remind me

Hey, DB, don’t forget you’re up for the OP on the 15th!

d&r

skimmed - second vote for an MMP stenographer and summarization

I’m feeling much better, now…

Went to work - had no access, but hey, apparently no one else did for a few hours either (tigs emailed me in a minor panic this morning)

So the opening number of our show is That’s Entertainment. Some of the bridge lyrics are
“It might be a fight like you see on the screen
A swain getting slain for the love of a queen”
so two of the gals have a sword fight downstage - with real swords! it will be interesting. One of the gals has studied fencing, so she’s one of the duelers. But no one knows how to stage die. I guess that’s where my expertise will come in handy. I am such a ham.
The only bad thing is I won’t be in the show this year. Every year for Thanksgiving, the nephews go off their respective in-laws, and my brother is by himself (well, used to alone with my SIL, but, well,… :() so if we want to do the family thing, it has to be the weekend before - which is something we have done for the last ten years and ain’t about to stop now. I begged them not to schedule the show that weekend, but that was the only tome we could get the venue we wanted.

off to sleep for me, now. Appropriate actions and reactions as warranted. Nitey nite.

eta - it just occured to me that maybe I was sick because I was feeling the weight of sadness of all the Mets fans! :dubious:

Morning all.

Just a quick one this morning - lots to do on this first day of the weekend before I head out to have coffee with the psycho bitch from hell. Yes - she called me a couple of days ago, back from her 2 month vacation, and insisted that we catch up (she just wants to see Noor!). She is being ultra-nice to everyone because her final subordinates review (for her promotion to equity partnership) is coming up next month (I guess she’s worried I will tell the executive committee exactly what shes like! ). So I have fed Noor, washed all her bottles and done the dishes. I still need to run the Hoover round Noor’s room and put a couple of loads of washing through, before I go. I also need to keep the noise down 'cause hubby is still sleeping (Friday is his sleep-in morning, Saturday is mine).

Anyhoo, hugs, yays, boos, etc as appropriate. And speaking of appropriate, here is my musical contribution for the day:

[Train]I need a sign to let me know you’re here
All of these lines are being crossed over the atmosphere
I need to know that things are gonna look up
'Cause I feel us drowning in a sea spilled from a cup
When there is no place safe and no safe place to put my head
When you feel the world shake from the words that are said
And I’m calling all angels
I’m calling all you angels …[/Train]

Then I must not be doing it right. ::Pulling the ropes tighter::

And we could preempt all future MMPs too. Yay!

Oh wait! Nevermind.
**
Dotty**, sending a big {{{hug}}} and a big ::bounce, bounce, bounce:: your way. That song was kinda melancholy. I was going to send you Anne Murray’s “A Little Good News” in response because they’re similar songs, but decided to send this instead.

Beautiful (on youtube)
[Gordon Lightfoot]At times I just don’t know
How you could be anything but beautiful
I think
that I was made for you
And you were made for me

And I know that I
won’t ever change
We’ve been friends through rain or shine
For such a
long, long time

Laughing eyes and smiling face
It seems so lucky just
to have the right
Of telling you with all my might
You’re beautiful
tonight[/Gordon Lightfoot]
**
Dotty**, you’re beautiful! Don’t let the turkeys get you down. Have a fabulous day!

Mornin’ Y’all! Or whatever it is wherever you are. Up and caffienatin’ here. Soon to purtify for da brewry. Grey pocket t with blue jeans. Today I get some training on kegs in anticipation of the big switch to third next week. Woo and Hoo.

Ok, off to purtify and take care of a couple things before work.

Bye Y’all!

ETA: Glad to see my little pep talk encouraged folks to sign up.

Happy Friday, Mumpers! I’ve been around but not really been around this week. For some reason I feel inexplicably unhappy just now…so I’m not really feeling like talking to folks.

Bah! That’s what I say.

Aw, BooFae, sorry to hear you have the blues. But thanks for stopping by - come back again soon!!!

I completely missed swampy’s admonishing post and naively thought my offhand reminder had generated multiple volunteers. In the future, I shall speak with the VOICE OF SWAMPY.

I’m up and considering what to make for lunch. It’s Friday and there’s a 3-day weekend! Yay!!!

GT

Up and caffeinating. If I can find help today, I’ll be going to hockey. If not, I’ll be working all day. :frowning: I hate weekends.

:slaps SCL with wet trout:
