Girls Week Out at the Beach: An MMP

Gah. Too early. And I puked last night, unexpectedly. Through my nose.

On the bright side, I have today off, we’re going to dinner with friends, and my washer is being delivered sometime in the next six hours. I hope.
In the continuing saga of co-worker, on Saturday he didn’t phone in sick, he phoned in tired. TIRED. From partying.

Good for FCD being staple-less!

swampy, my sympathy. Night work is dreadful if you’re not built for it.

Swampy, being the technogEEk I am, watching all the machinery in action would be way cool, but did not Miller hire you for HR?

Caffeinating. I have a new twist to the emergency scene this weekend: We’re doing a wilderness search drill Sunday afternoon. There’s potential there for a good tale or three, but also a hefty chance of bo-o-o-o-o-oring. I also have ambulance duty tomorrow night.

I sat down to update my automatic payments before getting ready for work and got distracted by this video: funny stuff, mostly SFW. Now of course I’d seen most of it before on clip shows, but the reaction of the two male actors at the very end just slayed me.

Hah, that’s really damn safe for work!

My favorite part about fall is that it’s Pumpkin Spice Latte season at tarbuck.

Don’t tell me it’s fall/autumn/whatever you want to call it. Apparent temperature today was 48C (118F)!!!

Oh and rosie, linky no worky for me!!! :frowning:

HAPPPY FRIDAY, EVERYBODY!!!

mbg, that sounds delicious! I wonder if they have it down here where Fall isn’t official until December.

swampy, sorry about the earworm. Here this’ll fix it.

boo fae, let us cheer you up. Blus not allowed…DO NOT WANT!! kthnxbai!

I’ve got nothing planned for the weekend and I think I’m going to take advantage of that and just relax. No three day weekend here. For some reason Columbus Day is not an official southron holiday. :frowning:

Later.

Tupug

Whew!

Just about made it through this particularly fun week. I don’t expect we’ll be quite as busy as the last few days, both because it’s Friday and because it’s the Friday of a long weekend for us Canucks. Praise be to Og and his dangly bits of omnipotence.

Is it me, or have Campbell’s soups gotten kinda bad over the years? I decided, in a rare moment, to have something different for dinner last night. To that end I bought some Campbell’s Beef with Vegetables and Barley – a soup I used to have quite a bit in my younger years – along with some whole wheat buns that I could butter and dip. When I made it up though, I discovered that this definitely wasn’t the soup I remember. The broth, once rather flavourful, was now pretty bland, and the bits of beef, which I fondly recall were tender chunks of slow-cooked roast that fell apart easily in the mouth, were now these hard, gristly bits of “formed meat chunks.” Great Og they were awful. They must have been only barely human-grade. Jeez, if I wanted food that low grade I’d have bought a can of Alpo. I hate it when companies go cheap with their products. I end up never buying that product again. I’m sure I can’t be alone in that, either, so does the money they save going cheap make up for the customers they lose for doing so? Ugh.

I knew I should have bought the Unico brand that was right beside it, and cheaper to boot.

What’s worse is that it gave me an upset stomach, so I went to bed feeling rather crappy. I’m more or less okay now, but … again, ugh.

Rosie - I miss The Carol Burnett Show. Especially the Mr. Tudball/Mrs. Wiggins skits. I’m going to have to watch that one (both of these, actually) after work, when I can do it from home with sound.

BusDude - I avoid starbucks at all costs (can’t stand their coffee), but our Tim Hortons has pumpkin spice smoothies available now, along with pumpkin spice muffins that seem to be filled with icing or “whipped topping” (yuck) or somesuch.

Doggio - Wait. 3 people showed up for 4 free cases of beer? I hope there was some kind of disaster or tragedy that prevented others from getting there, because that’s just not right. :stuck_out_tongue: On the other hand – more free beer for everyone else. Free Canadian beer.

For you pumpkin lovers the Cold Stone Pumpin ice cream is delish!! I had their “Pumpkin Pie in the Sky” creation a week or so ago. It was to die for!

I hope that Dairy Queen will be bringing back their pumpkin pie blizzard.

Last year I LIVED on the Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattees. Now, since I converted religions, they have coffee in and I can’t have that. I miss them, but oh well. I’ve been finding other pumpkin foods to survive.

'Ullo, all. So far, the parental visit is going well. But then, we are always good for one evening… My mother did not say anything bad about my kitchen or the decorating changes I’ve made in the DR or LR or FR. I may get off scott free or the dreaded, “you know, I’ve been thinking about your kitchen…” will come today at lunch. I know it sounds ridiculous–I’m 45! but when my mom does this, it still really bugs me.
Work tomorrow-Bah. But I need the money, so I guess, good.

Not much to say. Sorry to hear that our British contigent (aka BooFae) is not feeling sociable. What about the plans to move to Hungary (was it Hungary)?
ETA-I am making those pumpkin muffins (with spice cake mix) today. I’ve forgotten who posted them-Liss? or kawik? or ? Anyway, I hope they turn out!

It’s supposed to go up to around 30C this weekend here. It’s Thanksgiving! How can you roast a turkey when it’s 30C?

Ridiculous.

It was Hungary, but the plan faltered somewhat when we couldn’t decide where we wanted to go and how we were realistically going to support ourselves once we were there. Then we couldn’t really decide what kind of property we wanted.

After a while we started thinking about buying a business instead and found a fantastic vineyard for sale that’s really more than we could afford just now but was an amazing opportunity. Having investigated further we were put off by the restrictions about land ownership that apply to foreign nationals.

There are quite a few vineyards for sale in Slovakia though…

But today I went out for lunch with the team and in our change from the bill was a Hungarian Forint. It’s a sign, I tell you!

I am somewhat cheered by it being Friday, sunny, warm and only an hour away from hometime.

rigs Perhaps you have scared the parents into not criticising?

Dotty, I’m sorry the link doesn’t work. Go to YouTube and search Tim Conway Elephant story - look for the longest version if there is more than one. Watching Carol, Vicki, and guest Dick Van Dyke lose it is worth the viewing
eta: wheee! access at work!

Morning, all. I’m feeling marginally more human this morning, at least enough to sit upright and attempt to get some work done. Which is an improvement over the last couple days, at least. Especially considering how late I am with some of this work. But it can’t be helped; I don’t get this sick very often.

Yays, hugs, boos, and icks as appropriate (the ick is for you, LiLi – puking through your nose? ). I need to get some work done and get back to bed so I feel human for Gettysdope tomorrow!

One nice thing happened today – Papa Tigs called to let me know he’s got another mystery bonus in his paycheck. We never did find out who gave him the last one or for what – his boss (who disclaimed any knowledge of it) just said, “You’ve earned it.” We’re hoping we can find out about this one, since it’s several times as big as the last one!  Not that he hasn’t earned every single penny of it, and then some.

Off to be productive for the time I can manage to remain upright. At least my headache was gone when I woke up this morning! Now if the rest of me would only feel better, too…:frowning:

Yes. Through my nose. It hurt like hell.
Still no washer. Very soon I’m going to get so bored I start doing housework. Goodness.

I feel all old and overly married and stuff.

Yesterday I got hit on by a very attractive young lady in my Management Informtion Systems class. That’s the good part. The bad part is, I didn’t get it. After class we were talking outside the building and she said “Hey, you want to come over to my place for a few drinks, maybe watch some TV?” To which I responded: “Why?” AYL looked at me like I was the stupidest thing since Gilligan and took her leave a few minutes later.

It didn’t occur to me that I was getting macked on until I was driving home from class. I told welbywife about it and she laughed at me. She’s probably still laughing.

Sigh.

It is Friday already - Wow I have been home a week already.

My Dad is doing great - very mobile although his knee is a bit swollen but he is getting better every day.

I am off to feed my horse now - it has been nice to see him as well since I have been home. He still recognises me!

Eww, LiLi!!!

That clip was too funny, Rosie. I’m trying to hold back the laughter like they were, 'cause I’m at work.

I have a weird story to share. Last night, little Ernie was outside acting all strange about the BBQ pit. He was just staring at it. So I pulled it into the light, thinking maybe a bug or something was under it. He is fascinated with bugs. I heard a small noise. I opened the lid, and a big ol’ rat jumped out and ran away!! OMG! I screamed. I had no idea that we had rats around! Scared the crap out of me. I guess we’ll have to lay some traps or something - poison scares me with the pups all around.

Last night I made an awesome dinner! I made a stuffed pork tenderloin. The stuffing was sauteed wild mushrooms, onion, carrot, apple, then I added fresh chopped basil and parsley, dried sage, and fresh bread crumbs. Flayed open the tenderloin, pounded it out a little, stuffing on top, then rolled it up and tied it with string. Seam side down in a baking dish, and slathered it with dijon mustard. Sliced apple on top for decoration, and baked at 400°F for about 45 minutes. Incredible! Served with smashed NOT and green beans. Ooh doggy!

Tonight shall be lasagna with frozen homemade sauce i forgot to thaw out. But I’ll get it thawed in time, since I get off a bit early today.

Eh. I’m just not scary. Really. I’m not a wuss, but they still think I’m twelve. They are due to come over shortly from the hotel-we’re going out to lunch. That’s where we’ll see if the OtherMother comes out. (or the OtherFather for that matter).

Off to buy some Halloween decorations for the front porch. I cannot find the ones we’ve had for 15 years. I think when we cleaned out the basement, they got thrown out. Grrr.

Vineyard? I want to try some** BooFae **wine! Dry with indescribable depths as the afternote.

It took me until I was about 50, but I finally taught my mother I’m no longer 12. I think snowbunny is still working on it; she may have progressed as far as 16 yet, since she drives.

Rigs, I saw on Dirty Jobs where they make super-sticky strips that you can catch rats on. Won’t hurt kids or pets, it’s just that rats (or mice) get stuck on them and can’t get free. You might look into something like that. (I will admit to more than a bit of schadenfrëude when I saw that on Dirty Jobs, since they were in Municipal Hall in New Orleans, which the hockey team had played in till they moved to the Arena, then got thrown out of the Arena and ended up folding because they wouldn’t let 'em back in Municipal Hall because in the meantime, the rich old-line Mardi Gras krewes – the type you have to be born into – that don’t parade, just have exclusive super-snooty balls and tableaus and stuff, had put down a $1.5 million floor for their super-snooty balls and tableaus and stuff. And then Katrina ruined it three years later. Ha! Take THAT, you snooty people!)

I’m feeling about 15% better now. Which is a very good thing.
