Girls Week Out at the Beach: An MMP

Great OP! That scenery is beautiful. I’ve never been to that part of the country. I don’t do cold.

BBBobbio, all three of my mother’s brothers were firefighters and paramedics - and they all three have babies named for them. If I recall correctly, there are a bunch of little "Larry"s running around the central Florida area.

Dots, talk to HRHs doctor about her sleep schedule. As for the phenobarb - she will get used to it and it won’t make her sleepy anymore. My SIL has been on phenobarb since she was about 10 - she takes a dose that would knock me out but it doesn’t make her sleepy at all anymore.

Haze - don’t let the cats out on the porch. Even a two story fall can result in broken leg bones if they land wrong. Sad story: When we lived in Hawai’i, I convinced Mr. SCL that we needed a cat. He had never had a cat and wasn’t interested. I explained that unless I got a little pussy, he wouldn’t be getting a little pussy, so off we went to find Rationale. He and Mr. SCL really bonded - it was wonderful. The sad part is - we lived on the 18th floor of an apartment building. I thought Rash couldn’t get to the one window I had cracked open a little bit. I was wrong. One year to the day of my mother’s death I lost Rash. Keep the babies in where they will be safe.

Two weeks until training camp opens!

I’m not as sick as I was; the nose is just trickling instead of flowing.
I need to go clean catboxes. Envy me.

Home from the doctor, who seems to be a great improvement on my previous doc. Hopefully that will hold true.

Your story made me giggle, Bobbio, although (like everyone else) I hope everything turned out well for the girl and her baby.

I’m tired and sleepy, so I’ve decided not to go into work today.

Off to nap.

I hate my cataloging instructor. Just had to share that. She is over a month late with a grade (worth a whopping 6 points, but you can only accrue 25 points the entire semester). She claims its her fatigue and her daughter’s gymanstics that is delaying her. I have no sympathy for the woman.

And she doesn’t teach. She does not instruct in the least. She goes off into complex digressions and then chastises the class for wasting time. Grrrrr.

I made cupcakes. It’s better than cataloging!

Dotty–I had to dig up my academic record (over 20 years) for grad school! And I had to take the GRE because my GPA wasn’t super. But I enjoyed college!

I don’t have all the gory details but they did say he was a small puppy and that he came from a small litter of just 2 or 3 pups - something like that.

Hooch, I hope so! That sounds mighty uncomfortable for the mother, to say the least. Aren’t you supposed to breed the smaller male to the larger female? Semi-related anecdote: My grandmother once had a Shetland stallion she bred to her full size mares. That required building a platform and using breeding harnesses. While the mares objected strenously to this, the stud was all for it. I have no idea why she wanted to do such a thing. The breedings didn’t take, though.

I had lunch with the hiring manager, which was informative. She’s going to talk to the director to confirm that she does want to hire me, and I’m 99.9% certain she does, so I’m almost there.

If I were a bettin’ woman, I’d bet they were a c-section.

Jah, apparently the dogs haven’t got that memo yet.

It’s a terribly sad story, but this part made me giggle like mad. Yes, I will definitely be more careful from now on! The thing is she wouldn’t fall if she just stayed on the damn porch - the railings aren’t spaced widely enough for her to get through. But she’s a curious cat and insists on trying to look over the railing (which is low enough for her to jump on - it barely comes to my knee). She’ll give me a heart attack yet.

In other news, I think half my students failed their quizzes today. :smack:

Oy. I just opened the side pocket of my new $5 knitting bag that I found at a beach shop in Oregon – I actually got three of them, they were so nice, and for $5, I mean, really! – to pull out a tape measure, and discovered that I apparently stuck a couple of those packets of Marionberry jam that you get on the table at breakfast places.

Except they didn’t travel well. So the whole pocket of the bag was smeared with dark red VERY stick jam, and although the outside of the bag is waterproof, there’s only fabric between the pocket and the inside, so it was starting to leak into the bag. Which contains an assortment of yarn and a couple small projects. :smack:

Fortunately, there was only one small place where actual knitting got sticky. But it was definitely not one of my most talented moves ever…

Oh, on a semi-related note, I actually have something NICE to say about TSA and their airport aggravation. I’d gotten a small duffel bag at Target too carry my extra purchases home in, and I planned on carrying it on board, but at the last minute changed my mind and checked it. Except when we got up in the air, I remembered the two cans of soda I’d stuck in the duffel bag to drink on the plane. :smack:

So I was very relieved to discover the “We’ve searched your bag” notice inside the duffel bag when I got home, and no sodas! For once, TSA actually did their job and removed something potentially messy, if not actually harmful, before it went aboard the unpressurized cargo section of the plane!

I doubt this was a purposely bred “designer dog”. But let’s think up some combinations, even if the only thing good about them is the name - like Chusky. I’ll start. How about Weimation? Weimaraner and Dalmation. That might actually look pretty cool.

Well, I just got back from seeing the orthopedist. I got two cortizone injections - one in each knee. The doc numbed the area up first and I not only closed my eyes, I covered them with my hands because I do NOT want to see any needles (and I didn’t, thankfully). I gotta say that right now, both knees feel better than they have in a long time, but that may just be the after-effects of the numbings. The nurse said it would be 3-5 days probably until the cortizone takes full effect. I’m really hoping that it helps with the pain because it’s been so painful that I could barely walk, which has meant I haven’t been getting much exercise at all, which means that I haven’t been losing any weight. And I have to lose weight before they’ll even consider doing knee replacement. ETA: btw, the orthopedist did confirm that both knees are pretty much bone-on-bone right now, which is why they hurt so much. :frowning: Not that I’m pinning much on the cortizone shots, but I am hoping that they will at least help diminish the pain enough so that I can walk enough to exercise.

It sure does feel good right now, though!!

I made some soup over the weekend that turned out really well. Ground turkey, onion, carrots, diced tomatoes, and corn, seasoned with powdered chipotle and some other dried, powdered pepper whose name I can’t think of right now. It wasn’t really spicy, but it had a great Southwest-ish sort of flavor. Very nice on a rainy day!

I need some MMPer’s help. There is a pot luck tomorrow at work, and not everyone has to bring something, and I usually bring something to pass, typically dessert, but didn’t sign up this time. I think I will feel bad though, but there is a ton of food and I have no idea what to make, if anything.

Here is a list of things that people have signed up for:
Taco Soup
Penne Pasta Dish
Cheesy Potatoes
Ham
Veggies and dip
Pepperoni Pasta
Tomato, Basil, Mozzarella Salad
Wrapped pickles
Pasta Salad
Broccoli Salad
Crackers/Bread
Fruit
Betty Crocker somthing
Brownies
Bars
Strip-it-rich cake
Bagel Dip

Are we lacking anything??? Any suggestions on what I should bring? Oh, and we bring our own beverage to these things.

Never mind. Stupid hamsters. :frowning:

So I am finding that caring for my Mam, going to the hospital twice a day, cooking, cleaning and still trying to manage my job back in California is way more stressful than I thought it was going to be. I had a mini-freak out/breakdown tonight - mad at myself more than anything that I can’t seem to do anything right.

Anyways Dad was in a chair this afternoon - he is hoping they will let him walk with a walker to the bathroom tomorrow so he doesn’t have to pee in a bottle!

I tired FCM 's cure all of ice cream earlier and it helped a little.

Well, one comes to mind… a Bull Terrier and a Shih Tzu…

MCUNE–nope, it looks all covered to me. How about flowers for a nice centerpiece or balloons or some such?

ems-that all sounds very stressful. Be good and be patient with yourself. I recommend chocolate and/or ice cream. Use it liberally. And good on Dad! Up in chair is an excellent way to help prevent pneumonia/blood clots and kidney stones. Go Dad!
Dinner is in the oven. I talked with a friend in my Cataloging class. She hates the instructor as well. We’re thinking up dastardly plots like short sheeting her bed etc. (unfortunately, she lives in California). We shall peservere, though.

ETA ouch! Tarragon!

The bun is still in the oven. I repeat, the bun is still in the oven.

I stopped to ask about the patient, and found out the contractions were the result of dehydration. VWife did the same thing long ago, and won’t eat country ham to this day as a result.

Herbs, the cortisone should definitely help. I’m surprised your doc numbed you first, though; mine never did, and frankly, I didn’t feel a thing. I also recommend non-stress exercise, like using an exercise bike or an elliptical machine; and before my knee surgery, I got a sports brace with metal side bars to support my knee on the elliptical, and it helped a lot. The more you can exercise, the better off you’ll be come surgery time.

ems, ice cream is always good; I also recommend chocolate and trashy novels. Taken in combination, they’re always good!

There’s a stupid dog store nearby that always has designer puppies they advertise on their sign. I recently saw, I kid you not, an ad for “Boggle puppies!”

So no mini-VBob ?

Dammit!

Sorry in my pity party I forgot to say OUCH herbs but the brace sounds like it would be a good short term help

Ok, I’ve just sorta skimmed the events so far so yays, hugs, boos, awws, etc. where appropriate.

However I did notice one thing and all I can say is, BBBobbio how YOU doin’? WOOF!

Yeah, like any of y’all thought I’d let that just go on by!

In all seriousness, good for you BBBobbio! If it helped then so be it. Here’s hopin’ when the for real delivery happens it’s pretty uneventful EMT wise anyhow.

Ok, I’m tired and hungry, so I shall go feed and rest my weary bear bones.

Later Y’all!
