Give me 10 Wii games I should buy

For RPGs, I recommend Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. Lots of fun, even if you’re new to the FE series. For the Virtual Console, Shining Force 2 and Breath of Fire 2 are both great games (SF plays a lot like Fire Emblem, actually, while BoF is a more traditional JRPG with some interesting mechanics.).

I just got my wireless back up, so I’m going to have to check and see the new games for Virtual Console. If I see any that I remember fondly, I’ll add 'em later.

After playing Punch-Out!! for about an hour I can confirm it’s pretty good, if a bit familiar feeling to those who have played Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! and Super Punch-Out!!

Rune Factory Frontier. Sort of an RPG-Dating-Farming sim. Yeah, I know, it sounds hokey but it works.

If you’ve ever played Harvest Moon, you probably know what to expect.

I agree. Double Dash IMHO was as good as Mario Kart is ever going to get. It feels like a kart race in the Mushroom Kingdom. The Wii version is missing that certain cartoonishness that I enjoy. It’s almost too slick and polished.

I’ll second Excite Truck and Mario Kart Wii, and will also add the Tiger Woods golf game and Star Wars, Force Unleashed.

And Red Barchetta…what’s up with Excite Bot?

I’ll just give an extra hearty recommendation of Super Mario Galaxy. I’ve been playing video games since Atari and it’s easily one of the top 10 best games I’ve ever played.

The Wii also has a Paper Mario that my wife loved, though I haven’t played it myself.

It’s the spiritual successor to ExciteTruck. The core gameplay is practically identical, but they heaped on a metric ass-ton of weirdness that makes it wicked fun–like throwing pies at clown faces while driving, or playing “Shave and a Haircut” on a tambourine…

I know, it sounds stupid, but if you liked Trucks, you should like Bots.

To build on this suggestion and to explain it a bit… This Paper Mario is an RPG in the same sense as the previous titles, but its a side-scroller, like the old-school Mario games. Its a great combination and if you liked the previous games, you’ll likely enjoy this one too.

Counter-point: I liked Paper Mario and Super Mario RPG was one of my favorite games of all time, and I loathed Super Paper Mario.

I’ve got a lot of Wii Games. A lot. I had to make a spreadsheet so I would stop getting duplicates. I’ve included some games that the kids liked too:

The list of shovelware that I’ve bought is soooooooo much longer. It would be a good idea to have a list of games to avoid for the Wii.

stpauler, first of all , but more importantly, are you looking to unload any of your duplicates?

Thousands of dollars worth of games for the Wii and yet no Star Wars: Force Unleashed?

Tsk tsk.

Pfft, that’s on the 360.

Cisco, luckily, I’ve been friendly with an understanding Game Stop store.

How about WiiPreschool and WiiCopingWithTheNursingHome?

…I keed, I keed.
