Glee 12/2 (spoilers)

saramamalana, Auto-Tune is a program that can be used to adjust a song’s pitch without speeding it up or slowing it down. Originally it was intended to be used for little tweaks, but many artists use it drastically modify their voices in a sort of vocoder style. If you’ve heard Cher’s song “Believe” or anything by T-Pain, you’ve heard that very obvious sort of Auto-Tune.

In the case of “Glee,” the songs are usually subjected to more production effects than are necessary, especially Auto-Tune.

I hated the yearbook photo plot. There’s no high school in the universe that will single out one club to not get a photo because some copies get vandalized, and then makes the teacher pay for ad space to get the photo in. Granted, Glee thrives on telenovela drama, but this one just went beyond what I can accept even for a fantasy high school.

Besides the cost of ad space having nothing to do with the cost of the same size printed page, and you know basic fairness (and you know who’s ACLU parents), there’s the basic fact that who cares if someone vandalizes their own yearbook? The people in the photo are still going to have copies of the yearbook without vandalism.

But fine, plot device. I also didn’t like the two “Smile” numbers.

I did like the “Jump” number a lot, as well as Will making his discovery.

I think next week (sectionals!) is the mid season finale. Should be good…

Lea never needs it, but for some songs, the original version uses it, so it sounds weird if someone else does a cover and doesn’t use it. Sometimes auto-tune is used to fix bad singers, but often it is just used to create a cool effect.

Lea Michelle has such a pure voice that sometimes they just wanna make it sound funky… like this.

I personally had a problem with the song selection, though. Smile by Lily Allen? Honestly, it’s about feeling happy that someone else feels bad. That is soooo against what they keep preaching about that they’re soooo inclusive and make people feel good. Did they not listen to the lyrics before picking that song? Yeah, it’s about smiling. There are other songs about smiling.

Yeah, this plot was completely nonsensical. I took it to mean that the library’s copy was getting trashed, but still, who cares?

I’m inclined to think the writers knew exactly what the song is about and included it anyway. It’s lot more interesting than just doing Walking On Sunshine or Don’t Worry Be Happy.
