Gwyneth Paltrow is filling in for Mr Shue and Sue becomes Acting Principal.
Just want to say that I am so glad for hulu! What a night for interruptions. Phone call from my college student, freaking out over scheduling. Phone call from my aunt about the at-risk kids group I volunteer for. Five year old daughter decides she’s still hungry and wants to fix her own dinner. Then decides to run around the living room with her play golf club perilously close to the tv. I really liked the few minutes I saw!! Can’t wait to sit down and watch the whole episode.
This was another story episode. With the exception of “Forget You” and “Nowadays”, most of the musical numbers were a bit meh. The dancing/staging was great though! LOVED Gwenyth. I was impressed by her acting, singing, dancing, AND her Spanish! And she’s a real fun character. Sue as principal was a great idea. I wonder how long will it last though?
I actually enjoyed the episode. Even though Will was had a big part he wasn’t weird. The only thing about it that causes me concern is that Terrie is going to come back (you will regret this), although I am happy he stood up to her.
It was good. Very plotty, which I like. Paltrow definitely held her own with past Big Guest Stars.
I hope things work out for Mercedes and her new beau.
I liked Coach Bieste pointing out that the Cheerios would have no one to cheer for if Sue cancelled the football team. Sue really didn’t think that one through. And how Mercedes kept zoning in and out while she was 3rd wheeling Kurt & Blaine’s date.
I too want to see more of how Principal Sue plays out, but it can’t last. And I’d prefer it if Sue ends up getting herself demoted without Will’s intervention (though it would be nice to see him & Bieste team up again).
I despise Terri; why the Hell do the writers keep bringing her back? And where’s Emma?
Anyone else perk up at the mention of buckeyes?
Pretty good. For their big Chicago number I thought Gwyneth and Rachel did a good job and they’re both very pretty but zero zero zero sex appeal. That song demands sex appeal
Kurt: “gay gay gay, gay gay gay”
Blaine: “gay gay. gay gay, gay gay”
Kurt and Blaine seem to be made for each other. But I’m still waiting for the other foot to drop. Mr Football winked at Kurt after the latest bashing. Perhaps they will somehow end up together rather than Blaine?
Terri used to just be a Emma prolonger. I didn’t mind the once or twice she has appeared this season as a guest star. But I can’t imagine why she’s still in the main credits.
OTOH (SPOILERS)
I’ve heard various rumors, such as that she might get another job at the school, or might have an affair with a student. So who knows?
I’d like them to use it as an excuse for school board member Brian Ryan to intervene. Mainly because NPH makes everything better.
Some great dancing in this episode. Will’s dream of him and Mike Chang’s number was fun, and impressive work from both of them. The final song was great. I can’t imagine how much work must have gone into each of those.
This episode really stretched believability at a number of points, even by Glee standards, but I can’t really decide to start complaining about that at this point. Overall a solid episode, not a standout (despite a great turn from Gwyneth Paltrow), but not a stinker. Did a decent job of keeping all the various ongoing plot threads successfully juggled (been a while since we’ve seen Burt, but it looks like he’ll feature prominently next episode).
Incidentally, does anybody know, how many episodes are they planning for this season? Last season was, what, 22? But this one ought to be a full season of 26, right?
They’re too perfect for eachother. It’s boring to watch. There isn’t alot of opportunity for drama or comedy when both members of the couple have the same personalities and get along perfectly. Kurt & the football player would be a more interesting combination for a number of reasons. There’s the closet thing, but there’s also the apparent lack of common interests (though Kurt did enjoy playing football last season, but that’s been forgotten). He’s almost like a gay version of Finn (thought without Finn’s musical interests).
PS: You left out “Oh, a tiny purse just fell out of my mouth. How gay is that?”
I haven’t watched this one yet. Is it true that Bieste tells Will “I’m 40 years old and I’ve never had whipped a naked guy with a riding crop while he licks my toes” and he’s moved and does so for pity sake?
It was announced that Darren Criss (Blaine- Kurt’s new friend) is going to become a regular later this season- I don’t know if this means he’ll transfer to McKinley
Perhaps they’ll bond at the funeral when Artie is killed while playing football in his wheelchair later this year. (Artie on the team is still the “no way in hell that would even come close to a preliminary committee selection for a potential future meeting to discuss the possible ramifications of it hypothetically happening” aspect of the show; it wouldn’t be much less believable if he had a Michael Landon show miracle accident that magically allowed him to walk again).
Bonus points for “Conjunction Junction”
Brian
I enjoyed the final “Umbrella/Singing in the Rain” thought it was well done.
Such an unfortunate defeat in Sue’s war against sitting…
I loved this episode, even though I wasn’t necessarily thrilled with a lot of the music they used. It was plotty but not annoying, and had a bunch of very funny lines. That’s all I’m really asking for. Also, Gwyneth was one of the better guest stars they’ve had, and actually contributed to the episode/story rather than just being pushed into it.
Worst Glee ever. I hate musicals, and somehow Glee manages to avoid the things that I hate about musicals, but this episode had them in spades. I cringed all the way through, “Make 'Em Laugh” and “All That Jazz.” I also hate Gwyneth Paltrow - it must have been in her contract to do the episode that it would be “Glee: The Gwyneth Paltrow Show.” The only thing that made it bearable was, as usual, Sue and Brittany (“Mr. Shue taught me the second half of the alphabet. I stopped at M and N because they were so similar and it frustrated me.”)
AND IT’S FUCK YOU! OO-OO-OOOH! Stupid de-ballsing songs for broadcast tv. And yes, I know that’s the version that’s the hit song; I like the raunchy one better.
I thought Gwyneth was great, though I only “liked” the episode overall. As a teacher myself, I enjoyed her character’s arc. I’m glad they showed that being the “cool” teacher by letting the kids do whatever they want is not being a *good *teacher. I especially liked her justifications: (paraphrasing) “These kids need us to keep them entertained, and they are entitled to have us cater to their every wish.” Heh. Pretty heavy-handed in delivering the message, but that’s Glee.
Loved the younger versions of the *Glee *kids in Will’s fever-dream.
I’d have loved to have seen ‘Fuck You’ performed in that 1974’s Archies-like arrangement they used. But the sacrifices one must make for art when not on HBO, I guess.
Rachel’s still in fine form: “Let’s vote on what song you want meeeee to sing as a solo at sectionals!” Also loved Sam’s waist tackle of Santana holding her off Rachel-but I’m sure he loved it too.
Even though they had the star du jour (Gwyneth), it was pretty good.
Some great zinger, kept the “plot” alive, and although I could have done without a couple of the songs, a few were pretty good.
I agree they are foolish to bring back ex-wife.
I just think it is irrelevant to the story - hey, I too am a teacher and my personal life has nothing to do with the students at school; it is/should be all about the students. Nothing wrong with having the teachers have a “life” in the school, but I think the subplots of a teacher’s home life are distracting and do not move the story along. Just my opinion.
Once again, I only got to see a few minutes. I was annoyed by the “Mr. Shue doesn’t let us sing anything modern/pick our own songs”, in order to fit the plot of the week. Every week he asks them go come up with their own song ideas. Sure they may not get to use them at the competitions but those don’t happen that often and they can only do a couple songs there.
I usually don’t mind Gweneth too much, but her as a singer is getting shoved down our throats lately and it’s a bit annoying.
