I’m going to be so disappointed if Carol Burnett’s appearance as her mom is anything other than fireworks.
Gold star for you. I actually came back to this thread to specifically state that I did not like the Umbrella/Singing in the Rain combo. Great production, because the show has great production, but I thought the song itself was terrible. And as I said before, I’m not a Paltrow fan, but she was great in this. How could you not like her in this episode? Come on!
Two questions. Who is JGL referred to by Skammer who did a Singin’ in the Rain dance?
Also, does anyone else get a sense of Matthew Morrison being gay? He’s very sexy, but I just don’t get the same chemistry with the women as much as with NPH in their scenes. But, as Seinfeld says, “Not that there’s any thing wrong with that.”
Joseph Gordon Levitt, referred to in the post Skammer is responding to.
No, but my gaydar ain’t worth shit, mostly because I usually don’t care.
JGL is probably best known for his role as Arthur in Inception recently and as Tommy in Third Rock From the Sun. I had to look it up, too.
I had no clue JGL had done Make ‘Em Laugh recently, and I adore Singin’ in the Rain, so I found the dream sequence delightful. I was wondering if Mike was there primarily to take over wall flip duties, so it was really fun to see them both do it. Also, MM did a great Donald O’Connor impression.
I thought Gwyneth was fantastic. My favorite was the Mary Todd Lincoln lesson: “I’m bipolar, so I say things like, ‘That teapot is spreading rumors about me!’ and ‘This can’t be my baby because I don’t love her.’” Her delivery was hilarious. Also, she may be 38, but she was working those skin tight pants in the Umbrella number.
When Terri put the moves on Shue, did anyone else think, “NO don’t let her handle your junk with Vicks on her hands!” You know, in addition to her being a crazy bitch.
I watched the Make em Laugh again and I noticed a couple of things. Mike did all the prat fall segments (running into wall, being hit by board, etc.), but in the dancing sections Matthew was the smoother dancer of the two. Mike looked jerky and stiff.
Also re-watched the original version again with Danny O’Connor and it is still wonderful. Loved the sequence with the stuffed dummy.
I personally thought Gwyneth was wonderful. She sold every moment she was on screen. I’ll miss her.
Loved the mini gleeks. They have an excerpt on Hulu on them and the rehearsals. It was so cute, especially the part with the mini Meredith learning her lines. Watch it if you can.
Morrison is straight. In fact he kinda has a reputation for taking advantage of being “the only straight man on Broadway”. Yes, of course there are others, but he is a lotherio.
Just re-read my post and realized I wrote Danny instead of Donald O’Connor. Duh. Was also looking up Danny Kaye so just decided to combine the two I guess.
“Make up your own bipolar outbursts. See, history can be fun!”
