Oh, and WTF was up with the Sue wedding? Aside from the awesome track suit gown, it had no attachment to what we’ve seen from Sue’s character!
If you watched Lost, he played Artz. As in, “Dude, you’ve got some Artz on you.” Which is funny in a meta sort of way, because Kurt’s dad mentioned they were going to honeymoon in the hotel where the *Lost *guest-stars stayed.
Actually until he cheered up after Karofsky’s expulsion I thouth they were setting Kurt up for a suicide attempt. I do think the think with Karofsky is going to have a rather dark ending. I wonder if he’ll end up being outed against his will. Sooner or later Kurt’s bound to tell someone about the kiss (well at least in TVland, IRL he’d probally keep it secret for years then blab to a therapist).
I had the same thought and said the same thing to my wife last night. I really like the way they’ve done that plot line…it seems like one of the few truly genuinely written plots…
Overall, I enjoyed last night’s episode. I much prefer plot driven eps, and I prefer showtunes generally to the pop songs they do. The music last night was not special, but I think it has mostly to do with the fact that next week is Sectionals and it will be probably 1/2 music.
I really liked the wedding. Much more fun than the usual somber walk down the aisle. The audience were really getting into it. Liked the girls dresses too. Surprised Kurt was able to pick something that wasn’t too over the top.
Did you get the Brittany line when she asked Arty’s old girlfriend (can’t remember her name), “When you guys did it, did he just lie there?”
Overall I liked the interaction with the glee characters concerning Kurt’s being bullied, really liked how his dad jumped right in there and slammed that kid against the locker. He really is a cool dad.
Must admit that I teared up a couple of times during the wedding and at the end.
Have to agree with the consensus that Carol Burnett was wasted and the Sue wedding was a non starter.
Are they really saying the club is only taking one week to prepare for sectionals? That really is pushing the suspension of belief even for me.
I thought Sue’s character was a mess. I get that Glee is going all after-school special on bullying, but Sue is the biggest bully in the school yet she’s the biggest faculty defender of Kurt. Her character simply does not make a lick of sense. They are going to have to make her bi-polar to make sense of her split personality.
And then on top of that, she marries herself? Is this supposed to be some weird empowerment thing? All I could think of was she’s completely off the deep end and one of her personalities has decided to marry another of her personalities.
Finn’s version of “Just the Way You Are” to Kurt was one of the best things I’ve seen on television in recent memory. I teared up.
I agree that Sue’s gown was awesome!
Yeah! The dress and the wedding topper were the only funny thing about it.
Another “Carol was mostly wasted”. Has she had a stroke incidentally? Her mouth droops to one side.
Sue standing next to her sister is a jarring sight since the sister comes up to about her midsection.
The wedding plot: A. Sue/Doris: C. I hope they’ll bring Carol back in a more tailored role.
I teared up a bit during the wedding, too.
I found the bully business with Kurt rather creepy/stalkerish. If this were a girl being harassed by a guy there would have been no question that he should be expelled. As for the no witnesses thing, everytime he pushed Kurt into the lockers someone was there, so even if there were no witnesses to his death threat there were witnesses to the harassment.
Is this the first time Sue has sung on the show? She couldn’t sell albums but she can carry a tune. I didn’t like that her argument with her mother was total show tune (i.e. rhymed and melodic).
To the extent that you can assign depth to GLEE, I think that Sue probably was very sorry that she offended Kurt with ‘Lady’, she’s just that abrasive naturally, and her changing it to Porcelain was basically her sincere apology. Though she did apologize to the band later— except there she was apologizing for her mother which probably made her more direct. I thought the “bullies have been bullied themselves” line was a bit heavy handed but then sometimes it’s helpful to remember that the show is aimed at teens.
When I saw “Just the way you are” was a song I was expecting the 70s song (“Don’t go changing/to try and please me…”). Dating myself, but not yet marrying myself. I did work with a woman who did that and wore a ring but 1- she was nuts 2- I think even then it was tongue-in-cheek.
Thank you. I was on edge the whole time waiting for this. Happily, it didn’t happen.
I loved this episode, a whole lot. Loved Carol, loved the resolution of the storylines, and Shu crooning at the wedding was just fantastic. My favorite episode so far, as they had the music integrate into the story, rather than have the music just happen like in the Gwynneth episode.
I didn’t watch Lost - might get it from the library, maybe in the bleak midwinter. However, this information helped me look him up and figure out that what I was remembering him from was The Fugitive. Thanks. He’s done a lot of other things, but that’s the most likely trigger. I kept thinking "I’ve seen him in a baseball jacket, and expected to find out he was one of the lunkheads in Pretty in Pink or something. He was in a different movie with Andrew McCarthy, but not one that I have any specific memories of.
I was really glad that when Sue expelled his kid his character didn’t react the way bully paretns typically do in these sorts of scenes, blustering and threatening to sue and all.
Loved Carol’s line “Oh what in the G.D. hell?!” when Sue walked down the aisle.
I thought that line was stupid. I turned to my wife and said, “Who cares if they’ve been bullied themselves. Why do they have to be such a dick?”
I loved the exchange in A Fish Called Wanda where Wanda (Jamie Lee Curtis) is apologizing for the behavior of her “brother” Otto (Kevin Kline) to Ken (Michael Palin).
WANDA: Please forgive Otto. Our dad used to beat him when we were little.
KEN: G–g—g—good.
When Burt said, “I’ll love you until the day I die” at the altar, I was fully expecting him to drop dead of another heart attack by the end of the show – I figured they’d have it happen while he was dancing with his bride at the reception. So glad they didn’t go that way.
Totally wondered that myself, to the point where I looked up her IMDB entry to see if a stroke was mentioned (it wasn’t). It seemed less noticeable later in the show, but I spent the first 45 minutes wondering.
A nice carryover from their date at Breadstix where she complained about him not noticing what she’d been doing under the table for half an hour. She really doesn’t get the ‘legs paralyzed’ concept LOL.
Sue is an equal opportunity bully. She’s bullies everyone. And as she explained to Will, her bullying of the Downs girl was actually a kindness so that she wouldn’t feel different.
She danced with Will in one episode but I don’t remember if she sang too. She did sing in the Olivia Newton John episode.
