It was very public. This story is almost two years old, but it said sponsors including Procter and Gamble, Geico, Progressive, and Sargento Cheese pulled ads from Beck’s show after he called Obama a racist.
Here’s a list of over 300 sponsors that have dropped Beck (many include links to official statements from the companies).

Thanks again! While “stopbeck dot com” may be biased, if even half that number is true, it still is a PR blackeye for any major [cable] network television channel.
They only show FOX at my gym too. I don’t think we go to the same gym either because me gym is too cheap to install wood chip boxes.
It’s bad enough having to exercise but now I can’t avoid seeing the talking heads complaining endlessly about how the world was perfect until Obamacare ruined everything. I could watch “Real Housewives” instead I guess.
But, sir, be Beck’s blatant bloated backside belatedly beneath-bussed (and be the body unburied), the malodorous miasma of polluted putrefaction might rattle Hannity’s sanity (or at least tatter his vanity), make Huckabee upchuckaby, bring O’Reilly’s bile rising highly, and flood filth on the floors at Fox-as-sucks, sir!

Why do networks cancel any high-ratings show? If they can’t make money off it, it doesn’t matter to the bosses how many viewers there are.

Every TV show has sponsors that advertise for a while, then move their ad buy elsewhere. Does this constitute ‘dropping’ the show? If you picked any TV show at random and looked the sponsors who advertised on it over the years, couldn’t you compile a list of sponsors who ‘dropped’ the show?
I think a handful of big sponsors dropped Beck a couple of years ago when Obama was highly popular and Beck said some harsh things about him. I don’t know that that is the cause of his leaving two years later.
A good way to answer that question would be to see what sponsors Beck has now, and how they compare the sponsors that, say, Hannity gets. Are they demonstrably inferior? Is Beck pulling in less revenue per minute of advertising? Are there fewer advertisements on the show, indicating that the network couldn’t find buyers for its ad space?
If not, then all this stuff about Beck being dropped because all his sponsors are running away is just partisan BS. I find the actual explanation offered by the network and Beck himself to be more compelling - Beck doesn’t want to do a boring daily show - he wants to do big events and give speeches and headline rallies and all the rest. As a result, his daily show was suffering, the network was getting frustrated by the difficulties of keeping his show running, and they sat down with Beck and worked out a different deal that allowed him to do what he wanted and freed the network of the headache of his daily show.
I think it’s also possible that Beck was just attracting too much negative publicity to Fox, and was threatening the perceived credibility of their news programming, and they wanted to tone down his profile.
