The full title is Broke: The Plan to Restore Our Trust, Truth and Treasure, which makes it sound exactly like every other conservative screed written in the last five years.

Forgive me for babbling here, but I just cannot fathom why the left is letting this bullshit go down. Let me explain- I don’t mean the rally, that’s their right to have. What I mean is this whole general movement- one fueled by this crazy, nationalistic, emotional bigotry. Why the fuck isn’t the Left calling a spade a spade?
This stuff legitimately makes me worry about the future of the country. The right is very good at self promotion- just look at this ridiculous rally. The Left is too busy giving concessions on important shit and trying to stay diplomatic to head this ridiculous off before it blows up.

Come on, nearly everyone that’s not a card-carrying teabagger thinks the Tea Party is full of loons and a healthy smattering of out-and-out bigots. And they have been called on it repeatedly. I went looking around for numbers and everything I’ve read seems to paint the rally as the peaceful “Yay America!” and “Yay Christianity!” fest that Beck said it would be. I know, I’m as shocked as you are.
ABC News was the only ones to put a number on the rally and they had it pegged at 100,000. Beck himself seems to be the source for the 500,000 estimate.
What, exactly, should “the left” do? It’s certainly true that “the left” on this MB has figuratively shut them down, but how would that work in the real world? You don’t see anything but scorn on the lefty cable news shows like Maddow and Oberman.
Beck does have a right to hold his rally. But it is NOT tone-deafness and insensitivity at work here. Beck knows EXACTLY what he’s doing and what others will think of it. It’s actually an example of fine-tuned sensitivity, used for fucking evil reasons.
Are you party to a lot of conversations where people say, “that Glenn Beck, he’s really looking out for America?”
If so, that’s your look out. Personally, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t think Beck is a dummy, even on the right, and I’m glad about that.
It’s not quite the same thing as the TP movement; I know lots of people who are into that.
Having said that, it’s hard to judge the Tea Party and its membership because there are two distinct elements to it. There’s (1) a bunch of people who are pissy about the economy, and (2) a bunch of people who think there shouldn’t be no nigger Moslem in the White House.
The polls gauging TP support do a very poor job of distinguishing between the two sides.
