Global moderation

On the message board where I’m an admin, we have on purpose selected moderators in the various time zones - mainly America, Europe/Africa and the Far East (including down under). On this board, I think only Coldplay (Europe) is not located in the USA, whereas this board requires a lot more modding. Has it been considered to appoint a limited number of new moderators in Europe, and especially Far East/Australia/NZ to have a better global coverage?

Well, I’m posting because I think it’s an interesting question, and I want this to be back on the first page so other people see it!

But also I wanted to note the most awesome tiny brain slip ever! I’m going to start referring to Coldfire as Coldplay from now on, just because I think that’s really cool.

Please don’t hit me, Dragon Phoenix. Or Coldfire for that matter.

Heh - what a stupid mistake. I am a music lover though.

It’s one of the things that is considered, but not the onlye one. The vast majority of the posters are in the US and so most of the moderators live there too.

Why is this an issue? Is it assumed that the mods/admins will only be working their shifts during certain shifts, say 9 - 5 weekdays? What is to keep a mod living in US central time zone from posting at 2 am local? I mean other than sleep. Why assume mods are all on the same schedule?

It’s not an issue - I just thought that adding a limited number of mods from different time zones would increase the chance that actions that need doing (like deleting porn links) get done quickly.

I rarely go out of the house, and I do not have a regular sleeping schedule. A potential mod’s available hours are one consideration, but that factor is far down the list of our traits to look for.
