GLOW season 3 [Open Spoilers] season 4 Cancelled

I had the impression that Ruth was having issues with the Las Vegas-an exile, in that she wasn’t progressing in either her career as an actress or in her relationship with Russell. Then the romantic business with Sam and with Justine’s movie just kind of hammered home that she’s sort of cut-off from the wider world.

And then when Debbie shows up with the directing gig at the end, Ruth rebels, because I figure she felt like she was not in control of her own destiny in a certain sense- she’s doing what she thinks everyone else wants, and not what she wants, so she says no, even though in a pragmatic sense, it’s foolish.

I didn’t get the impression that there was any doubt- the way I read the scene was that Bash had bought the TV network and basically backed out of all the Rhapsody/Fan-Tan stuff entirely, leaving them all in the lurch.

I thought it was a fantastic season overall! They’ve done a teriffic job creating these characters.

I found the ‘romance’ between Sam and Ruth to be cringe inducing. It wasn’t just the age difference. Something about it made it extremely uncomfortable - like she was making out with a father figure. My wife and I both went, ‘eww!’ simultaneously when they kissed.

If Ruth is supposed to be an unlikeable half-crazy person, then they’re nailing it.

Didn’t Debbie approach Bash with the network deal after Geena (Sandy?) had already declined to implement the changes Bash and Rhonda wanted (namely, the BMX girls)?
I was under the impression that Debbie asked Bash to invest because she knew that he pulled him money out of Fan-Tan.

In either case, it seems moot. Bash invested IIRC, 2 million into Fan-Tan which still left him with 40 million. It’s not that all his money was tied up in the casino.

I didn’t feel she was saying “I was wrong all along” (unless she explicitly did say that and I spaced out…). I felt it was more The Next Step to finding who Sheila is. I think she saw how fun being Liza was and that the wolf protected her when she needed protecting, but now she could have fun in other guises. Or as herself.

I really liked Tex and I hope Debbie didn’t ruin a good thing. Sure, she doesn’t need a man, but she also needs to not backstab her way to success.

I liked the Tex character, but I’m pretty sure that relationship is blown up. I would guess we don’t even see a cameo from Tex next season.

Speaking of cameos, I was a bit surprised we did not see an appearance from Horatio Sanz this season. His character had some sort of financial interest in the casino, and he was the person who brought the show over.

I agree, Tex was an interesting character to have around, and I am a bit unhappy that the realtionship Ends with Debbie backstabbing him. Then again, he specifically told her he was ruthless on the Business side and wanted to protect her from that side. So maybe her showing the same Level of ruthlessness actually makes him respect her.

Good callback to Horatio - had forgotten him and it is a bit strange they would never bring up the guy who made this whole Season happen.

I know Tex was there as a plot device to facilitate Debbie and Bash buying the network (for a good price, too) and as a vehicle to show how business savvy Deb has become, but they could have easily dragged it out much longer. With her having a social life and a career, Tex and Sam could have been butting heads. It would have worked well with Sam thinking he’s larger than life and Tex actually being larger that life. Tex gives Deb the life she wants, Sam gives her the work that makes her feel like she’s actually doing something with her life. Tex lets her live in the lap of luxury, Sam hands the controls to her and lets her control the chaos, which she appears to enjoy more than she lets on.
It still could meant Sam stomping off and Bash buying the network, so the end result would be the same, but they could have developed Tex and their relationship more.

I only started watching Glow a couple months ago, and just finished watching all three seasons.

Season 3 was kind of an odd animal; I found it to be the weakest season overall, yet it contained some of the best individual episodes so far. The camping episode was the best of all 30, in my opinion. That’s when the show went from being 3 main characters and a bunch of supporting players to a true ensemle cast - and a very good one at that. In fact, when we get to see all the ladies together is when the show really shines. Meanwhile, the individual storylines concerning Ruth, Debbie, and Sam are becoming contrived and soapy.

I agree that Ruth and Sam absolutely do not belong together. Hopefully they will come to that realization eventually and not try to force something that doesn’t feel right to the audience.
That said, the writing is still better than most of what’s on TV, and the performances sell it beautifully. I’m hoping for a season 4 and will definitely watch!

GLOW has been renewed for a fourth and final season.

Even though (or because) I love this show, I think it will be good for it to end before it wears out its welcome. Season 3 was kind of dark, and many of the characters seemed to want to move on to other things anyway, so it seems like it was on an arc to end soon anyway.

I echo the general sense of disappointment in this season. It forgot to be fun and engaging. It forgot what made it interesting in the first place.

Still watchable, but dropped several rungs in my ladder of excitement-about-a-show.

Cancelled, damn it.

This had been renewed for a 4th and final season, and the 4th season had started production before the coronavirus closed everything down. But due to the challenges of shooting in LA and the close physical contact and exertion necessary in the wrestling scenes, they decided not to try to continue.

This stinks.

@Tangent: Do you want me to change the thread title to something like:

GLOW season 3 [Open Spoilers] season 4 Cancelled.

The Netflix part is now tagged.

Well that’s a bummer. GLOW was one of my favorite Netflix shows. It would be nice if they at least made a GLOW movie or something to wrap things up once things are back to normal. A lot of things were left hanging at the end of season 3, presumably which were planned to be resolved in the next season.

Damn! Really disappointed.

As I recall, Debbie and Bash bought a TV station out of state (Texas?). With Debbie gone, Ruth lost half of her duo and Bash was bankrolling this whole thing.
I assumed this next season we’d see Ruth moving out to wherever Debbie and Bash moved and be more on the production side of things going forward.

Yes, that would be appropriate, thank you.

That would be a really good idea. I understand why COVID would lead to the ending of the show - you can’t keep people on indefinite contracts until it’s safe to do the physical filming.

Marc Maron is trying to get a wrap-up movie made for Glow.

Apparently season 4 had largely been mapped out but COVID drove up production costs to the point where Netflix decided to cancel instead.

Maron feels they could condense season 4 into a wrap up movie once COVID is past.
