I tried to keep my cool. I really did.
Mrs.Phlosphr and I went for a walk last night to get some icecream. On our way back we decided to take the water route and walk along the boardwalk near our marina. Then I saw it. A sight that made me sick. A large obese women with Oxygen in her nose, smoking a cigarette whilst holding her one year old.
Then she started hacking…that gurgly, wet hack. all the time shaking her kid and STILL KEEPING THE CIG IN HER HAND RIGHT NEXT TO THE BABY’S HEAD!!
Then just to throw a cherry on the top she grabs her inhaler and takes a few hacking puffs off it then sticks the cig back in her mouth. Talking to the baby with smoke all over the poor kids face. The baby’s eyes were red from the shit. My wife kinda looked at me with a disgusted look and I looked right at the lady who now noticed I was looking at her with that “you stupid fucking ignorant bitch!” kind of look. She knew it because she said. “What are you gawk’ing at”
I said, “Don’t you think that smoke is bad for your child”
HACK What the hell business is it of yours? She came back with.
I shook my head in disgust and muttered, “poor kid” and walked off having a slightly dimmer look upon reality and those who live therein.
You know, while in a way I kinda agree with your concern, something about this really bothers me. Let’s see if I can put it in words. You gave the woman a “you stupid fucking ignorant bitch!” look, fine. I’m wondering though, if it had been a hulking guy with his baby, would you have given him a “you stupid fucking ignorant asshole!” look too? My guess is no fucking way. Of course I could be wrong, but I’ve seen the scenario I’ve just described too many times.
I smoke, and if I see a baby being pushed in a pram coming towards me I hold the cigarette behind my back while they pass to stop any ash that may accidentily fall from landing on the child.
It is almost impossible to smoke a cigarette whist seated without having to brush many particles of ash off your trousers after the cigarette is finished. The baby probably gets sore eyes from the smoke and bits of ash hitting it’s eyeballs. Bad form indeed.
What may be worse is people who when they discover they are pregnant decide that they are allowed to get pissed-drunk one last time to celebrate, and usually smoke through pregnancy into the bargain.
I’m six foot two and weigh 220 pounds. I fill my presence pretty well thank you. And yes. Anyone who behaves like that in public would get that look. To sum it up it was a look of disgust.
Anyone who knows me on the boards know’s I have a tendency to be quite opinionated in public if something is presented that is A) Distinctly ignorant and lude/crude/rude and B) if someone is doing harm to another.
See here for a cite where I went to court for an injustice brought upon a mentally challenged boy.
Funny thing about that other thread, you used to be 6’1". Additionally I noticed that the subject of your rage there was also a woman, presumably smaller than you since, as you say:
Now granted, the story as you told it made you look like less of a bully and more like a savior. But it seems to me, and I’m just going by your own description, that you seem to pick your fights very carefully.
I saw something almost as bad at the hospital when my child was there. It was bitterly cold outside (below freezing with wind chill) and we were coming to visit the baby. As we walked past the smoking area outside there was a woman there, bundled in a heavy coat, smoking, having a converstaion with the person walking next to her while she was pushing a wheelchair with a little girl–who was maybe 6 or 7 years old–who was wearing only a hospital gown and was pulling along her portable IV pole. The child was freezing cold and the woman kept blowing smoke over the top of the head of this kid who looked miserable.
I mean, if you have to go out and have a smoke in that weather, leave the kid inside. I know she probably wanted to get out of her room and take a walk but bringing her out in that cold and ignoring her while you force her to breathe in your second hand smoke isn’t doing much for her health!
Refering to the other thread Bayonet, would you have sat idly and watched that occur or would you have said something? I am a proactive person. If you continued to read the thread you would see I am an advocate for the mentally disabled, my wife and I are avid funders for the CT Special Olympics and generally people who look out for the peoples rights when they are being violated.
I don’t regret anything I have said or done in either situation. And yes I pick only the fights worth fighting.
I understand you were not insinuating I regreted anything Bayonet, I didn’t mean to come across like that. I just get urked when I see things like last night.
Put yourself on a pedestal if that’s what you need, I’m just pointing out that the sex and size of your opponents seem to be pretty important criteria in your selection of fights.
Let me get this straight – you’ve read the OP, you’ve understood the situation, and you’re being pissy about a reported one-inch difference in Phlosphr’s height?
Do you need a microscope to pick those nits, or are your eyes just that good?
Actually bayonet1976 in each of your posts you seem to be accusing ** Phlosphr** of only speaking up because he has a size advantage.
Why should he keep quiet about a child being abused because the abuser is shorter than he is?
I’m afraid that you’re not making any sense.
Let me try this again, I figured I would have trouble getting it across. Remember the post where I said:
The point I was making was not that Phlosphr shouldn’t have said anything to that woman, but that the fact that it was a woman, and smaller than Phlosphr made her very likely to get this treatment. And that a similar situation where the smoker was somewhat larger than Phlosphr would’ve been ignored. Phlosphr then responded that he has reacted similarly in another occasion, even provided a link, however the subject of his ire in that other link also happened to be a small woman. Again, I’m not saying that Phlosphr shouldn’t have said anything in that occasion, only that, again, if the other person would’ve been a large male Phlosphr might not have been as agressive in his pursuit of fairness.
Then I also poked some gratuitous fun at Phlosphr’s seeming growth from 6’1" to 6’2".
Am I the only one who sees a pattern to Phlosphr’s activism?
No, Phlosphr just admit it. You like to beat up on women. It’s patently obvious from this thread. If she had had no arms and no legs you’d have used her as a basketball. If she were a quadriplegic you’d be rolling her wheelchair down the hill right now. Stop this misogynistic cycle and go pick a fight with some men. RIGHT NOW!
