Sometimes I run across a website so cool, or usefull, that the one thing that bothers me the most is that I can’t share it with more people. Well, it’s happened again.
This time, it’s a site that has archived websites… lots of websites. You want to go back five years and see what a site once looked like? Give it a shot. Do you want to download an older version of an app or driver? This site does it. Want to see a now defunct site? Here ya go.
For instance, take a look at what the Straight Dope once looked like-- Straight Dope- 1996
I can’t take credit for finding this site on my own-- I found it via a webzine that I read. And no, I have no personal stake in the site. I hope someone else finds it as interesting and usefull as I’ve already found.
I thought about previewing to see if this site had been mentioned, but I assumed I got the jump on linking to it before the others. Oh well.
MannyL-
Yepper, LangaList. I didn’t reference it specifically out of fear that people would sign up for it not knowing what they were getting in for. For those not interested in his newsletter, it can get pretty irritating getting the e-mail every other third day (At least that’s what some people who I’ve sent there have told me later).
Really? well I am a bit peeved because my site isn’t on it! The webspace provider I am with doesn’t allow them to copy their sites. Darn! I really wanted to see some snapshots of my site too! That is another motivation to copy my files and move it somewhere else.
The Nickrz thing intrigued me too so I did a search on him. Turns out he stopped visiting the SDMB, just drifted away like posters sometime do, and he was relieved of his mod duties as a result. He still turns up and posts occasionly (I can’t spell that word!) I have seen him around a few times fairly recently. He doesn’t seem to mind not being a moderator anymore.
