Go back in time... honest!

Sometimes I run across a website so cool, or usefull, that the one thing that bothers me the most is that I can’t share it with more people. Well, it’s happened again.

This time, it’s a site that has archived websites… lots of websites. You want to go back five years and see what a site once looked like? Give it a shot. Do you want to download an older version of an app or driver? This site does it. Want to see a now defunct site? Here ya go.

Cool.

For instance, take a look at what the Straight Dope once looked like-- Straight Dope- 1996
I can’t take credit for finding this site on my own-- I found it via a webzine that I read. And no, I have no personal stake in the site. I hope someone else finds it as interesting and usefull as I’ve already found.

I am amazed at how much it has. It even had some really obscure web sites I used to work on years ago.

Pretty cool!

I agree Dragwyr. I thought for sure others here would see its usefullness too.

Hmmmm.

Langalist?

I was wondering the same thing when I pointed it out here.

Then I noticed [url"http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=98642"]this thread.

Regardless, I find this site incredible.

The first SD Mess Board I see is from Apr 23, 99:
http://web.archive.org/web/19990828095410/www.straightdope.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/Ultimate.cgi

7 forums, 2,347 users and about 60,000 posts. Did this board start in early 1999? What ever happened to the Nickrz Mod?

Yimminy!!

I thought about previewing to see if this site had been mentioned, but I assumed I got the jump on linking to it before the others. Oh well.

MannyL-

Yepper, LangaList. I didn’t reference it specifically out of fear that people would sign up for it not knowing what they were getting in for. For those not interested in his newsletter, it can get pretty irritating getting the e-mail every other third day (At least that’s what some people who I’ve sent there have told me later).

If you’re interested, the site is at Langa.Com

Cool newsletter/webzine/message board. The guys usually well ahead of the game on things.

*If a mod see’s this, go ahead and shut’er down. The others seem more established, and, well, their titles are more succinct than mine too.

Thanks.

Those bastards, they even have my webpage (which is now defunct). That kinda peeves me. I didn’t give them permission to copy it.

I’m going to e-mail them and have it deleted.

Pretty interesting thingamajig there, though.

Sorry about the triple post. I blame my computer.

It’s not my computer’s fault, but I blame it.

Really? well I am a bit peeved because my site isn’t on it! The webspace provider I am with doesn’t allow them to copy their sites. Darn! I really wanted to see some snapshots of my site too! That is another motivation to copy my files and move it somewhere else.

The Nickrz thing intrigued me too so I did a search on him. Turns out he stopped visiting the SDMB, just drifted away like posters sometime do, and he was relieved of his mod duties as a result. He still turns up and posts occasionly (I can’t spell that word!) I have seen him around a few times fairly recently. He doesn’t seem to mind not being a moderator anymore.
