Almost afternoon all (11:40am here is the reason for the greeting). Mowage is done, 4 big bags of clippings are on the curb and with the temperature at 90F, it damn well better rain this afternoon and make it worth doing! Have drank water for hydration and Pepsi for caffeine, so feeling pretty good. May yet go to the gym but how much I do there is still in question.
Also put a down-payment for the November 2023 Panama Canal Cruise my friend is organizing. If any MMP’ers are interested, let me know by PM and I’ll send you the information and also put in a good word with the boss… I think anyone in this group would probably get along with the folks I travel with.
Wheelie, you would have thought somebody would have asked about the trackage and weights, but I guess that was ‘somebody else’s problem’. Glad the steamer is sticking around for awhile at least.
OK, need to toss the sweaty/dirty clothes in the baskets and get into cool-down mode. take care all.
I had to disappear for a bit, but hugs to you, sunny and shoe!
Also, nellie, I hope all is well with you and your sister. That sounds scary - sending good thoughts to you & your sibling.
I was going to post last night - not about anything interesting - but I was so exhausted from work that I fell asleep in a chair in the backyard while listening to a podcast. It was as if the second my body held still it just shut right down. I went to bed around 9 p.m. and slept until 6 this morning.
I’m a little antsy because they’re talking about “operational efficiencies” again, which usually means doing more with fewer people. I’m not sure whether to hope that I’m considered essential or not.
Yes, we can. I only eat Kettle Brand chips. Wifey will sometimes eat Lay’s, but she also prefers Kettle brand. Keep in mind that I’m a grumpy old phart.
On the other hand, your recipe sounds yummy.
Hippie, your tale about the water heater drain valve made me chuckle. I’ve had to do things like that altogether too many times. I even have a tool that looks like a gigantic screw extractor made especially for your problem.
It’s supposedly heading for 110f today. We need to square away the pickup today and load The Daughter Unit’s kayak in the back. Wifey wants to take it back to her this evening on her way to an art sale, or something-like, in the valley, where she and a friend will be selling their paintings. Thus I shall be without adult supervision until Sonday. Unless you count Gibbs.
Wheelie, glad to hear that TPTB got a clue and are keeping the steamer. The Portland Zoo tried to get rid of their trains a few years ago and there was a huge uprising of public outrage over it until they saw the error of their ways.
And then at the end of the year upper management will give themselves huge bonuses for saving the company so much money.
Yes, I can. Store brands in my area are noticeably different. I just eat fewer chips so I can buy the ones I like. That said, I’ve never eaten a Trader Joe’s chip I didn’t like, so I load up when I’m there. They have a reduced fat kettle chip that is my all time favorite.
Move over the two of you-I got there first!
(And it’s the only place I get to first)
On the down side I spend more on Carmen this week in repairs than I owe on the loan. On the bright side, tires and shocks are supposed to last 50k miles, and theses lasted 71,000 miles. Plus I got a ChocoTac at the BP across the street from Pep Boys. So overall win. I also got slobbered on by Remington, the sweet Pittie across the hall(Gordie yelled at her from inside the apartment)
The house is quiet again. Roxy done wore me out. We had to go outside, but luckily, it started to thunder, then to rain, so we weren’t out all that long. After I fed Tobias, we went down the basement and I alternately kept Tobias from hurting himself and played various games with Roxy. Daughter got here a little after 5, we ate, and she just left. PEACE!! I’m beat!
Tomorrow, I’m taking the kids to their house after I pick up Roxy. Then I won’t see them till we get back from FL.
Sat morning, we’ve got to mow, then take the trash and recycling to the convenience center. We’ll pack everything we can ahead of time, but the cooler won’t go in till Sunday morning. We are so not looking forward to next week… It’s going to be all flavors of stressful. But FCD is a good son, and he’ll do what he can for his folks, since neither of his brothers can. (One is in Texas, blind, on dialysis, and dying. The other has mental and emotional problems…) I’ll do what needs to be done, and I’ll probably whine here - ignore me. I’ll just need to let it go.
Now, tho, it’s time to assume the recline position and chill.
It’s hotter than the hinges of Hell out there. I walked to the bus station, took a bus, walked to the eye clinic, and…was told the company said not to return the bad lens, and oops, the contact lens person forgot to call to tell me not to come in. So I did the same journey in reverse, then walked to get my Rx. All told, I did over 6 miles. Not bad but not what I could’ve done and a lot more comfortably at the gym.
My sister-in-law texted the family that my nephew and the baby tested positive today. Hope they’re OK. My SIL also said she can’t wait to go out to dinner tomorrow night. Um, you shouldn’t go anywhere unmasked. I don’t know what they’re thinking. My brother is very bright and should know better.
Thanks much for the hugs! Yes, I have had frank talks with her. So has her husband. She gets seriously pissed off, and it seems to harden her resolve not to take care of herself. Last fall I sent her a letter telling her how worried I was about her dying soon. It did no good. She’s dieted almost all her life and succeeded in losing over 100 pounds 8 years ago, but for morbidly obese people, the long-term success rate of dieting is almost nil, so I understand why she wouldn’t put herself through that again. I also understand why the rest of the family is angry and frustrated, even though I’m not. I used to hope she’d have bariatric surgery, but that involves huge lifestyle changes I know she’s unwilling to make.
OK, time for something nice. A man on the bus gave me a beautiful little purse he’d made out of butter-soft leather. True, it says “Jesus” on it, but in funky lettering, and he didn’t proselytize.
Also, my stomach is lots better.
I know. Good thing she and your in-laws don’t know each other.
doggio, what does Fred do besides kill bugs? Web design?
And a good dinner hour to all. Just finished my Cheeburger with a banana for dessert, now considering if I should go back to the gym to work some of it off, it’s 97F outside and no rain, so it the 75% chance of showers tomorrow don’t show up, will have to get the sprinklers out.
My brother and SIL both have PhD’s, but refused to be COVID-vaccinated for reasons. Bright doesn’t always equal smart, IMHO.
FCM, safe travels and whine all you need to next week, we’ll be here.
doggio, Remington is a great name for a dog, IMHO (nothing wrong with Gordie either).
talkie, hope the talk is just talk, but keep that resume handy…
OK, need to see if the T-shirt can take another 45 minutes of sweating (I usually set the bikes at a high level of force, so I do tend to sweat a lot). Take care all.
Howdy Y’all! Lots of sloth today. We like livin’ up to our potential as grumpy old men who are drains on society. Majik Intartoobz Pizza and sallit got et. Life is good.
MOOOOOOM I but generic chips a lot. We like the plain old fashioned chips and the generic ones are as good as any. I guess, to us, chips is chips.
Nellie sorry about how things are with your sis. Outside of hopin’ she comes around and starts to take care of herself there’s not a lot one can do.
Oopsie hope things stay OK at irk.
Wheelie may I say I am not too surprised there was a glitch? Some folk just do not have a habit of thinkin’ things through.
Taters sic ‘em! I kinda liked gettin’ to do that to certain people durin’ my irklife.
doggio I thought Gordie ate Fred. I am glad he’s OK apparently.
Mooooom, the rare times that I buy chips, they’re usually Aldi tortilla chips. I actually prefer Mission, but unless whatever store that I’m in has a hella special on them, I don’t shell out the extra $$$.
hippy, I’m glad that you had the mad skilz to repair your water heater.
I hope that you feel better soon nellie. It sucks about the contact though and people like your SIL is the reason that I’m still not comfortable going out to eat. If you’ve been blunt with your sister, while it will hurt, at some point, you’ll have to accept that she’s made her choice.
Started out irk on the island today, but before I could even get my first cart loaded, got moved to the Apkudo. It went well over there until after lunch, when AWS went down. Our servers still worked, but Apkudo is a third party operation and was down for a couple of hours. When it went down, the lead and supe were in a meeting, so I emailed them letting them know how long that I could keep the back end of the line busy and was helping set the front end up for manual processing. By the time that they came out of the meeting, everything was under control and a few minutes later, AWS was back up.
The department bought lunch today. It left me with a bad taste in my mouth. The new manager ordered it from Chik-Fil-A, which I have ethical issues with. We were also required to all eat in the training room, which didn’t have enough seating, there weren’t enough salads or plates and no sugar free options to drink (not even bottled water). Then, we had to listen to him making a speech and give recognition to a couple of folks. While, as hourlies, we were off the clock. I composed an email after lunch with a gentle reminder of both the federal statute and section in the company handbook about duty free meal breaks. Had I not had a low blood sugar episode earlier this morning, I would have hopped in the car before going into the training room and bought lunch at Sonic across the street. Grrrrrrrrrr! (rant over. As my dad always said, you always pay for a free lunch.)
I have always been pretty handy, and for a year or so I worked as an apartment complex maintenance man. It really upped my skillset but it was a lot of learning on the job in the midst of pressure.
The first thing I tried was a big easy out. If the PVC would have had a hand, its middle finger would have been displayed. I think the factory slathered the threads of the valve with epoxy before screwing it in.
I think I managed to repair the exhaust leak on the truck today. I started the day by doing nothing for a few hours, which was needed after last night’s lack of sleep. Then I went out and measured the opening where a client wants a french-door bookcase thingy put in. On the way back from that it became clear that the patch I’d put on, well it’s where the tail pipe goes into the catalytic converter. Mechanic buddy made a suggestion…worked for 3 miles. So’s I’ve got a new “solution” we shall see if it works. Combo of the mechanic buddy’s idea and one of my own.
hippy Nice job. I don’t think I would have thought of the torch, but it makes sense.
Elsewise, read much retained little, so hugs, etc as needed.
I’m hopefully off to bed as soon as the dish machine finishes.
Moomm I think I’ve asked you before, but have you ever looked into taking the train down to Florida? I think Amtrak runs the only auto train in the country down the East coast. You load your car on, ride the train down, and then you have your car when you get there. It would save you having to make that drive.
nellie
I hate this sort of nonsense with the boiling passion of a thousand suns. Deletes many expletives
Just got back from minor erranding. An unexpected sight at Walmart: NEW LPs. I have photos if anyone feels a need for proof.
I was so sleep fogged this morning I lost track of whether Buddy was inside or outside, and I haven’t seen him all day. Hope he’s OK and will get his furry rump home soon.
