I had to replace the rear window wiper on my wife’s Volvo wagon. No big job, except that the wiper arm is non US standard: neither Trico or Bosch or Rainex arms will fit the damn thing!. Thinking that someone had installed a non OEM wiper arm, I bought a OEM, Made In Sweden arm; this fits no USA standard arm either.
In the end, I used the old arm and fitted a new blade to it. Why can’t these damn things be standard?:smack:
OEM parts can be expensive, yes. I ended up repairing the rear wiper arm on my XC90 when the tiny, fragile pivot pin broke.
However, exact-fit wiper blades are available from more than one maker. The problem is, ANCO and others call a lot of things “exact fit” that aren’t. You have to get one that absolutely, specifically says it fits that year and model of Volvo rear wiper arm, and it will be about twice the price of the generic gas-station versions.
(That is, don’t depend on a cross-reference list to a part number that supposedly fits 50 things. It won’t. Dig deeper into the listings to find the very specific part that only fits about four things, all with two V’s in their name.)
I had my VW Tiguan in for service a few weeks ago, and had them replace the blades. Cost three times (eh… maybe twice) the blades down at the car parts store, but they work enough better to justify the cost.
