Gobble ‘Til You Wobble, Or Not In The MMP

Inneresting Moanday at the museum. I’m having geometry issues with my Archimedes’’ screw ping pong ball lifter. There’s a sweet spot between lifting and getting stuck. I think I need a bigger tube. Then we had a class of Cornell students who are studying exhibit design come for a shop tour. I got to explain about prototypes and trying to figure out how the kids will (not might) break things. Observing play on the floor.

I’m still pooped from last week. The 8-8 thursday and an extra 4 hours at the high school on sundee added up.

I’m just doing a me and Ms Peach T-day. Got the smallest bird I could find, 11#, N.O.T, gravy and real cranberry sauce, maybe some 'spareguts. Bird goes into brine tomorrow, I think. I may or may not make cheesecake. I make a damn good cheesecake.

I order our bagels through New Yorker Bagels in New your. Very reasonable and free two-day shipping.

Have you frozen them? How well do they keep, the smallest order is a dozen.

Howdy Y’all! I got industrious this mornin’ and made cornbread for the dressin’ (I said dressin’ **FlyBoy.). I will make the dressin’ up tomorrow just to get it done. We were RDOS, as is our wont, most of the day. Weather be weird. The high tomorrow will be 80. The high on Turkey Day will be 55.

Sticky_Buns I have contemplated orderin’ it all myself. A local caterin’ place makes yummy homemade stuff. Matter of fact, they do our Wednesday night sups over to the church house. I am sure Bob Evans will do you proud.

Hippie your take on green bean casserole sounds nummy.

Coppertone yay for the invite! As for the snow, better thee than me.

MOOOOOOM the racks are cleaned good enough. Removable parts are cleaned. The interior gets a wipe down and is hosed out after every couple of times it’s used. If I happen to think about it, that is.

doggio a possible adventurous feast sounds like fun! I love Rat!

MetalMouse glad you have new wheels for the trip. That’s a long round trip ride!

Nuts that sounds fun! The Episcopal Church shield incorporates the Cross of St. Andrew because the first Episcopal bishop was consecrated by Scottish Episcopal bishops who did not have to swear allegiance to the King. This was just after the unpleasantness between the colonies and Great Britain. Feel free to use this fact should you need small talk at a cocktail party.

Weasel that sounds like a good time for all.

BrightTree your feast sounds fancy! Not to imply you are servin’ cat food.

Lily a week to feast! Now that’s a plan. I very seldom get to eat Indian food as no one else likes it. Truthfully no one else is willin’ to give it a try. Sometimes I sneak off by myself and pig out.

JtC generous of you to make the donation and takin’ a pre-made dinner to folk who really need it adds to your nice cred.

Evening all. Not much worthy of reporting, spend a leisurely couple of hours at the gym and let Mickey D’s take care of the evening nourishment, so now it is catching up on You Tubes and general sloth. Day stayed nice but the Weather Wizards are showing the rain starting around 2am and continuing for the next 12 hours, so my decision to make 2sDay the ‘stay home and do laundry’ day looks like a good one.

Enjoying reading all the cooking stuff you folks are doing, I never was much of a cook so glad brother and Sis-in-Law are willing to feed me a couple times a year.

And see what Moanday was like for us Mumpers…

FCM, hope the chair/ottoman find a good home.

Nut, glad you can spell ‘ceildh’, but had to look up what the heck it was ( a social event at which there is Scottish or Irish folk music and singing, traditional dancing, and storytelling, according to my on-line sources). Hope weather cooperates.

Spicey, enjoy your holiday and sounds like Uncle and son do great things together.

Knots, like you I don’t like physical violence, especially with me involved, but hope the workouts help you.

Cookie, dammit, sounds like someone doesn’t want you to have that card. Best of luck on the detective work.

Flyboy, hope Findus does ‘find’ his place in the feline heirarchy and Goo stops his bullying.

Hippie, great story and I can relate to Father-in-Law, I am a fussy eater and if you tell me what something is I’ll usually reject it; but on the other hand I survived two weeks in China eating Chinese food (which I never touch here in the US) so the secret is not to tell me what’s on or in it.

nellie, hope the new sitting-place meets your expectations and the old one is out of the way. Best wishes to Mr. Max, his person, and you. I still have my appendix and so far it has not caused me any trouble, but you never know. And never had a reaction like that to being anesthetized; just lying there one minute and next thing I know I’m in recovery.

JtC, good on ya for sharing the wealth. Enjoy the glass company and new glass cat (hope the real one don’t get jealous and break it…).

VanGo, good luck with the Arcimedes screw…maybe one of the Cornell students can suggest someone there who could provide suggestions.

Not to bad, about 7 hours given traffic around Nashville but Interstate for 92% of it. Know the route so well after making two-three round trips a year for over 25 years now.

And that’s it for now. Have about 90 minutes of You Tubin’ to do then see what else the night brings. Take care all.

Up from naptime. Having an Old Fashioned with cheeseburger(with Stilton) and fries. Watching Monday Night Handegg, since the Panthers are on.

Best kind of holiday(or regular day gathering).

I’ve worked retail, and yeah that is really quick.

Marley Drug can help with that

I’m trying to bring him into the living room, whether Goo is there or not, to let him know he’s safe.

The turkey sat out on a towel all day. It feels thawed, but still refrigerator-cold. It’s back in the fridge.

I’m not sure my mother has ever cooked a dish that includes canned soup.

No word yet from Max’s person, and it’s been about 5 hours. I texted her an hour ago and haven’t heard back, so maybe they’re running tests or something. Too late, I realized I should have gotten the phone # of the friend who took her to the ER. If I haven’t heard anything by tomorrow morning, I’ll go to the complex office and ask if they can call her emergency contact; I’m pretty sure it’s her daughter, who’s a physician who lives about 90 minutes from here. It’s not just the dog I need to know about. I’m worried about his person.

Thanks much. Coming from a caped crusader like yourself, that means a lot!

The junk haulers didn’t get here. They texted me to say they were stuck in traffic and would absolutely, positively be here Wednesday. They’d better be, as my son and DIL will be here Wednesday evening. The new chair is also arriving Wednesday.

swampy, forgot to say how much I love this week’s title.

MetalMouse, safe travels! When should you be back at Chez Rat?

Do you stuff the turkey then? So few people do now. We always said “dressing,” when I was growing up, but thanks to the StoveTop people, “stuffing” seems to be elbowing its way to #1. Could we compromise with druffing?

Hippie, Frank obviously had a very limited palette. He missed a lot of deliciousness due to his self-imposed hippie food embargo. (I thought a giblet was a small animal when I was little.)

Come on over for brunch on Friday. I ordered two packages of plain bagels, but I got one plain and one everything. And I have red onion and tomatoes for the lox and bagels.

Of course. If it’s inside the deadbird carcass, it’s ‘stuffing’. If it’s not, it’s ‘dressing’. ISTM that stuffing is how God intended it to be cooked.

The Spousal Unit says she thinks she’ll go to bed at seven. She said she feels like she’s getting a cold. I asked her if she took a Zicam, but she said they give her gas. She put Tiger Balm on her chest and back.

Ah, anesthesia! According to FCD, one time as I was going under, I was trying to get everyone to sing show tunes. Better living thru chemistry!

Gotta set an alarm on Alexa with a reminder not to eat. How did I ever get along without Alexa??

OK, it’s after 10. Sleepy-bye time!

Is a screen door a possibility? Or even a couple of baby gates? That would allow everyone to see each other and lil Findus can feel safe.

I hope your wife is wrong and that she doesn’t have a cold, she was just tired.

Thank you for sharing the link, I also like falling down rabbit holes like that

I think you should make a cheesecake. You are worth the effort!

I’ve always failed at cheesecakes so we are going to have a vanilla bean custard pie instead.

I was looking at the table thingy about them last week and they do look good. Back when we were both working, half the time we would go out because we didn’t get Fridays off.

I want to like Indian food. It is very healthy and most folks find it to be very tasty. Up until this year, there were many Indian long haul truck drivers so there are Indian restaurants all along the interstates.

See, you folks just don’t see my real motivations because you are all much nicer than I am. I donated because we know that while we can cook our own t-day feast now, we will probably want one of those boxes sometime in the future. Its best to encourage them to keep it up and money is often good encouragement!

We will be going to a family potluck on Saturday. All of the women (me included) take pride in bringing home empty plates and take extra time cooking and decorating. Ensuring that nobody has to take time out from baking fabulous desserts to be sure the Ronald is fed gives me in-law points AND makes sure that I will have a good selection of well made desserts to sample.

My speeling is so bad that I could live there for my entire life and not be able to spell it correctly. I also had to look it up and it sounds fun!

These are very heavy, solid glass cats. They can survive being knocked over as long as they don’t hit the floor. I do have a secret weapon, though. I always have a tub of museum putty around which works great to keep things where I want them until I want to lift them to dust.

I have a bunch of fake flowers in a crystal vase on the entry table. I know that Jolene gets up there and messes with it, the flowers get bent and nibbled. The vase doesn’t budge.

Absolutely. I agree that her daughter would want to know what’s going on. Hospitals are noisy and many things beep, I wonder if Max’s person didn’t hear the text ding? Maybe call? Fingers crossed that all is well.

You guys are just falling for my disguise. Now when I push that bus full of nuns and orphans off a cliff, you will just think they did something to deserve it!

I do hope your chair is gone before the new one arrives.

If we weren’t smoking our bird, I would put stuffing in the cavity. We have temp probes and I’m not afraid to use three or four if needed. As long as the stuffing and bird are fully at temp, the food will be safe.

It warmed up today so Hubs went out for a motorcycle ride while I sorted threads. Many years ago, I met an older woman who was sad because her children didn’t do needlepoint and she wanted them to go to someone who would appreciate them. I opened my mouth and told her to write me into her will.

Sadly, she passed away a few months ago and someone called me and asked for my mailing address. He said he was her executor and didn’t know what she had so was just sending everything.

While I don’t like to complain about such a thoughtful gesture, her executor clearly didn’t care about her things and just tossed everything into a couple of boxes and shipped them off.

After it is all sorted, I’ll probably take a lot of it to our Thursday stitch and sip meetings or donate it to the Needlepoint Guild. Besides threads, there are also tools and stretcher bars mixed in. New stitchers always need more stretcher bars!

:musical_note: Her name was Lola

She was a showgirl.:musical_notes:

That’s an idea.

Well, it’s almost 19:30 and she’s still up… Whoops. She just closed her computer. But she might have just gotten another glassa wine. Or not.

I came home to see a small package at my door.
My friend ( for 49 years) mailed me some warm slippers and hand lotion.
I am happy.

OK. A quarter to eight, and she’s gone to her room.

The Sound Of Music is on, but it goes ‘till 11. I’ll go to bed before it is over.

Max’s person is home. They ran a lot of tests and decided that the problem is that her kidney is squashing a blood vessel. ..something about organs dropping as we age, and this one is stretching a blood vessel. They referred her to a nephrologist. She’s still in rugged shape. I said I’d walk Max tomorrow.

My mother always stuffed the turkey, but we called it dressing. My now-ex refused to let me stuff the bird because of salmonella, but he insisted it was called “stuffing.” I think in part it depends on the region, like saying sack instead of bag or spigot instead of faucet.

“Bali High”? When I was wheeled into surgery, everyone introduced themselves, and I said, “Hello Everybody! Thank you for coming to my party!”

SoCal native, and the first time I made Thanksgiving Dinner was when I was ten. (Mom was sick with flu, and i’d be darned if we weren’t having Thanksgiving!) We always had turkey with stuffing, and I’ve never not stuffed the turkey. (I do use excess ‘stuffing’ to make dressing in ramekins.)

Stuffing is stuffing, and dressing is dressing;l and ne’re the twain shall meet.

Planning to drive home Sunday, but will be taking my cellphone and laptop computer with me so will try to stay in contact.

nellie, thanks for the neighbor update, sounds like something treatable, and I guess that old age (which is creeping up on us all) can cause some…interesting…issue. Best wishes for her and Max.

Coppertone, that was a lovely touch from your friend. Warm slippers are a truly great gift.

JtC, sorry about the lady passing away but at least he sent it to someone who will see that it gets used by those who want it.

And off to bed so I can be up bright and early to start the Great Laundry Day as early as possible. Take care all.

We will have dinner on Saturday with twenty three family and friends. Biggest gathering in quite while. I will make pies, chocolate pecan and cherry. I also make rolls.

OK, Alexa creeped me out, and now I can’t sleep. I was in the kitchen whispering to myself because I was doing math in my head and getting frustrated, and Alexa whispered, “I can whisper, too,” and something I couldn’t hear over my gasp. Holy frick, I shut up fast and ran out of there. Now I’m lying here Twilight Zoning myself into thinking Alexa will unplug itself, sidle into my bedroom, and use her cord to shut me up for good.
