Goddam fucking piece of crap computer!!!

I just wrote an eloquent thread for Great Debates, with a link and bolds and itals—and my goddam fucking Netscape crashed right before I was about to press “submit new thread!”

Now I have work to do and I’ll never be able to phrase it as well, plus I am too pissed-off to try again.

Fuck. I’m going back to posting from a manual typewriter. This never happens with typewriters.

You’re going back to posting from a manual typewriter? Meaning you’ve posted from a manual typewriter before?

So, what was the thread about? Should I lament its prenatal destruction?

I feel your pain. I was filling out a form for the FBI only available on PDF and had most of the stuff done, but I needed a few addresses. So I left it open, planning on getting them this morning. Oh, but no! My computer felt like restarting for some reason. Gah!

I once worked for a company that had really crappy IT people, and I would have to save my work after every paragraph. I HATE WHEN THAT HAPPENS!

You were writing about taking a poop, weren’t you?

I’m not being a smart arse or anything here but try installing Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ .

Way better than Nutscrape. Faster, better, stronger …

Office computer. No can do. Anyway, I finally got the damn thread posted.

Or Opera. If I have a text box on a page and click on a link, when I click “back” the text that I typed will still be there, unlike in IE where it is frustratingly lost.

Technical Assistance

Ahh, well then you’re stuck with the BS I afraid.

I work in IT so I can put anything on my machine :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow, your place of business still uses Netscape browsers? I think i’d actually prefer the latest iteration of Internet Explorer to Netscape.

Back when i used IE, i would quite frequently type out long posts and then, if the Boards were really slow, them when the dreaded white screen came up.

In order to prevent that happening, i began typing out lost posts in Notepad, and then, when i was finished, i would cut and paste the text into the browser. This way, i could save the text, and if something went wrong and the Boards didn’t work, i had the post saved and could try again.

I just used to keep a Notepad file called sdmb.txt on my desktop, and each time i did a long post i would put it in the text file, replacing the old text.

Every once in a while we see a small screen pop up with the corporate logo on it telling us “Preparing to install security patch XYZ. Shutting down in 120 seconds.” The only alternative is to click the big button in the middle: Run Immediately :(.

This is quite rare, but when it happens, it is stunning. “Boy am I glad I didn’t step out to the john for a few minutes while leaving fifteen documents open with my morning’s work in them.”

I’ve gotten into the habit of copying all my posts into the clipboard before I click on the Submit button. That way if either the Dope or my browser goes down I can just paste it back in and submit again. Saved me a couple of times.

Yup - my SOP is ctrl A ctrl C. Every freakin’ time. Of course, every once in a while I hit ctrl V instead of C, and get to scream and jump up and down for a little while because I just pasted my previous post over what I had just written. I try not to do that.

If you’re in the text-box and have a two-button mouse, right-click and select “undo.”

Or ctrl Z

Netscape? Crashed? Never heard of such a thing! :smack:

Still ain’t giving up on my Netscape.

Right click undo? Ctrl Z? I love you people! No more overwritten posts!
