The new Amazing Race season began last night. One of my favorite shows. I always record it (while watching Simpsons and last week’s Boston Legal) I can fast-forward through the commercials.
Last season, almost every TAR began late by 20-30 minutes because of football, so I was in the habit of recording for two hours. It’s February, though, so football season is over. Things should start on time. So I set the machine to record from 8 till 9.
What do I find out this morning, though? TAR started late.I won’t get to see at least the last 20 minutes.
Why did it start late?
Golf. FUCKING SHITASS GODDAMN GOLF.
How the FUCKLEDUCK does a GOLF GAME run that far behind?

I guess 60 Minutes is some kind of sacred cow, but what about the 6:30 CBS news? Can’t you just skip that for one night or shorten it? It’s not like anything ever happens on Sundays anyway. And if it does, well, there’s the Monday morning newspaper. That’s what they’re for.

Amen, brother! I love golf, but I never dreamed it would run that far over. Must have been a sudden death. I thought surely the half-hour local news would absorb any overrun from the ceremony. Yes, the delay of Amazing Race — the season premiere, no less — was inexcusable and incomprehensible. I hope CBS lost some ratings so that it hurts them where it matters.
There were 2 or 3 playoff holes because Phil Mickelson choked again.
I’m pissed because my mother asked me to record both TAR and The Apprentice because her DVR is full and she’s coming for a visit this week. I don’t watch The Apprentice and I had to miss recording the Fox shows and miss Desperate Housewives (which I’ll try to find time to watch tonight online). So because the show didn’t start until almost 8:30, it through everything off! I could have watched DH, but I had to record Cold Case to get the rest of TAR!
I know it’s The Pit, but do I have to call my mother a fuckwit?
I’m not understanding the ads at the bottom. How do you get “Kanye was right” and hurricane ads from this thread?
You do know they schedule things this way on purpose? Right?
CBS wants golf/football/basketball to run about 15 minutes long on Sundays. That way the audience carries over to 60 Minutes and the rest of the Sunday evening schedule. There is a explanation of this in one of John Feinstein’s books (it think it was The Majors.)
This will happen for the rest of the season. Don’t forget that CBS carries NCAA Basketball, and you will probably see TAR get at least delayed in March for tournament games. Remember this is a good thing. With any luck the sports audience will stay tuned in to watch TAR and the ratings will get a boost.
What pisses me off is the complete preemption of weeknight schedule for a basketball game. That moves a show to the convenient time of 2:30 AM. Thank you Tivo.
Probably the same godforsaken golf that was on Global TV up here last night and pre-empted The Simpsons!!! Bloody Hell - get your priorities straight! The Simpsons are far more important than bloody golf! Mutter mutter…

I learned about a year ago that a season pass to “Cold Case” was a life saver in these cases. I never watch “Cold Case”, but just like clockwork, that recording saved my ass last night.
