The trailer is now available. The dialogue and shots seem totally clichéd.
I just hope there’s a Jean Reno / Matthew Broderick cameo

Nice. I like the tone and approach the trailer suggests. It almost looks like a pandemic movie. Also, Cranston!
Well, this trailer alone is better than the entire 1998 movie, but that’s not saying much. This looks like it has a nice cast, too. I spotted Bryan Cranston, David Strathairn, and Elizabeth Olsen.
God, I hope not.
And why is the monster grey? Can’t we have some decent colours for once?
I figured that was just to keep it dark and mysterious. There may yet be colors … sorry, colours.
I was never that excited about Godzilla. I did watch the movies as a kid because they showed them a lot on Saturday afternoons. But I am excited about this, it looks like the way an updated Godzilla should look and not a way to sell Taco Bell.
Unless Godzilla grabs a top hat and cane and start singing "Putting on the Ritz’ I don’t see how it could be different than any other Godzilla movie that’s ever been made.
Godzilla has traditionally been a very muted tone, usually gray. From a quick Google search:

Any word on the rating? I suspect The Brood is going to want to see this.
It will be interesting to see this on the heels of Pacific Rim.

I mentioned this in the last Godzilla 2014 thread, but if you’re curious about this check out Gareth Edward’s previous monster movie Monsters. I think it’s on Netflix streaming. I thought the movie had a lot of flaws–unlikeable leads for one–but it had a cool tone to it, something I can see maybe being replicated here. It’s different and worth checking out.
Is this a Japanese film?
Godzilla is not Taco.
Sure doesn’t appear to be.
They are still using the music from 2001.
It is being made by Legendary Pictures and Warner Brothers. Toho apparently has a production credit, but I expect that’s just because they were the creators of Godzilla.
It looks pretty damn good to me, but I’d watch a romcom as long as it had giant monsters destroying cities in it.
For instance, I actually like Godzilla Vs. Megalon. I’m pretty sure I’m their target audience.
More disaster porn. How visually exhausting.
I have never seen any of the classic or traditional Godzilla movies, so I thought the updated one they made in 98, or whenever it was, was fine entertainment. Now I’m too old to care.
Looks really good.
This is even better than the first trailer, the one Oppenheimer narrated! Monster movies are the same as superhero movies, unless you take them seriously (Burton’s & Nolan’s Batmans, Man of Steel, Donner’s Superman) they become nothing more than ridiculous kid’s movies. That, or if you’re just an incompetent filmmaker (like Emmerich & Deavlin…)
Interesting use of the music from the end of 2001: Space Odyssey. Certainly lent the trailer a creepier, darker feel.
Probably could to be some dumb pop music in the movie though
