I quit. The garage is just about ready for pellet delivery, which was my main aim. There are 2 shelving units that need sorting/purging/organizing, but besides being for another day, I really do need FCD to help because much is his stuff but among other things, I don’t know what’s worth saving and what needs to go. For now, tho, the floor is mostly swept, things that can be put elsewhere have been put elsewhere, and my car is back it its spot.
Even tho it’s hot, I’m glad I wore long pants. I didn’t want to use insect repellent, so this way my legs were protected. And once I cool down, I’m going to make a quick run to Food Lion.
I noticed what looked like mouse-chewing debris - there’s an opening from the garage to the basement where FCD ran a cable from when his shop was in the garage. He filled it with Great Stuff, but I think mousies laughed at it. So I crumbled some aluminum foil and filled the void. We shall see…
One of the fluorescent tubes in the garage is burned out. We have replacements, but the ceiling is high enough that we need to bring in a ladder - too high for using a step stool. That’s another thing that can wait.
Tell me again what’s so great about home ownership??
Happy Monday! My son and granddogs will be here in an hour, then I get the dogs all day. I am very happy.
My daughter said the ruins from the fire are terrible. As of this morning, one friend and her husband are still evacuated and are unsure if their house is still standing or not. Daughter said people were already organizing food, clothing, etc. for people who lost everything. I’m impressed, and I have to say, relieved as well. There’s been so much acrimony nationally, and the way people failed to unite during the last national crisis, the pandemic, I thought maybe we’d lost that humanity. There’s hope!
B-but I only have the one self. I thought about getting a few more, but I’m perpetually confused with the one I have, so I don’t dare. Happy Vacay Day!
shoe, so glad your wayward Monkey found his way home.
sticky, I hope you don’t have to go off the lithium since it’s worked so well for you. Also, congrats to you and MusicMan on the jobs!
Yikes. SO glad your son had spares and was so kind.
This cracked me up. Also, so sorry about your BIL’s condition. 105 pounds is scary thin.
I LOVE irises and am looking forward to photos! What color(s), do you know?
Yanker, I like camping but do demand a toilet and sinks. This is what got me kicked off Lewis and Clark’s team–well, that and the fact I get lost going around the block. I would have been a Corpse of Discovery.
I hope it leaves behind some beautiful baskets.
Taters, sorry about the smoke. Do you have central air?
MetalMouse, hope the dentist is kind to you and you get a sticker for having exemplary chompers. Also, your kind words in the last MMP brought tears to my eyes. What a good guy you are.
I have to ask: How exactly do band uniforms get damaged?
A former student of mine became a roofer. He fell off and landed on his head. After recovering, he went right back to roofing. I don’t think many Rhodes scholars go into that line of work.
I’m so sorry about Mauser. You’re doing the right thing. The vet came to our house when our English setter needed help leaving this world, and it was so much easier on our pup than traveling to the vet would have been. Blessings on you and Mauser, and I hope today isn’t too hard on either one of you.
Lucked out with the vet and snagged a cancelled appointment. Took Sadie in and she basically got a clean bill of health. They gave her antibiotics as a cautionary move because of the rawness near her eyes, and some drops, and cleaned up the mess. Basically, she’s fine, but we need to get her back on the eye drops twice a day. Fun!
Had a few minutes of panic when I realized my car fob was missing from my key ring. Front desk didn’t have it, searched all over where I’d been since yesterday. Came back up to the apartment wondering how we were going to get to the vet’s office and suddenly spotted the fob in my chair. Head smack.
No idea why, but after the reading the OP, I was expecting this: https://youtu.be/dBURLdhmmZ8 Hope there’s tequila in your future.
Next week we’re off to Amsterdam, so we’ll wave when we fly over.
{{{Sticky}}} Hope the medical team can offer a better solution for you.
{{{Cupcakes and Mauser}}}
We had about 2 mm of rain. Barely enough to make the pavement wet. We walked about 0.4 miles from the train station and got wet, but not soaked. The rain came straight down and the sun was shining. Wacky weather. Probably should water the tomato plants, but we’re supposed to get more rain. Not sure if I trust the weather forecasters anymore.
Good Monday everyone! My weekend was one of minor annoyances, so hopefully things turn around today. One of my upper eyelids was swollen and slightly tender Saturday so I called into Teledoc. Doctor thought it was pretty straightforward and called in some eye drops. However it’s proceeded to get worse and I can barely open my eye now it’s so swollen. So working from home today because I look quite ghastly, and an appointment with my regular eye doctor this afternoon. Hopefully she’s got a miracle cure, or I’ll either be working from home again tomorrow.
I was very excited to try out my new cheese grater last night. Well, let’s just say it’s very sharp and my thumb knuckle is thoroughly bandaged.
Sticky Buns I hope the new jobs are good fits and that your mom is finally feeling better. That’s a lot going on.
FCM sorry to hear about your BIL - that sounds like a rough surgery and that he’s not in very good shape. Is the cancer perhaps making it difficult to eat? Also, putting trikes in the basement seems like A Bad Idea unless you can roll them in from a side entrance vs trying to get them down the stairs.
{{Baker}} I am so sorry about sweet Mauser. My sister did home euthanasia for one of her dogs and said it was the best decision. Hopefully you can keep him comfortable with some meds. Also, it’s good to have you back around again, I wish it was under better circumstances.
doggio good job on starting this week’s mmp; looks like it was started moments after midnight.
sticky buns hope you had a nice afternoon with your BF and AF.
Ahahahaha. I know I’ve told the story about when I left the Mitten in December with almost 2 feet of snow on ground for an interview and when I arrived in SA, TX and was riding in the hotel transport from the airport, I had to start peeling off layers. Then after checked into my room, I went walking around downtown in a tank top and shorts (it was 64F) and saw people in jackets and fur coats. No, it’s all relative; TX is not cooler weather in comparison to most of the rest of the country.
At the gym taking a break from sweating, the dentist appointment went fine, no problems but some pointed comments on the amount of plaque they had to scrape off so I have promised to do my daily brushing. Now just have to make it a habit. Was a big burst of rain a few minutes ago but its stopped now.
Have read all and will reply some once I am back to my computer (which reminds me, I need to look for a new business chair, mine is worn and not so comfortable anymore)–so need to add to the weekly list.
And back to walking, 2 25-minute sets should do it.
Reminds me of when we lived in Mali in west Africa. A very hot place. On an 80 degree morning you’d see the locals walking around in coats and fur-lined hats.
Heh, I visited the South of Spain for Christmas a few years back- you could tell who lived there and who was visiting, because the locals were all wearing coats and scarves, and the tourists were frolicking in the sea or in shorts and T shirts.
I also remember being in Java in sweltering tropical heat and seeing babies and toddlers with woolly hats on, while I was debating just stripping down to my skelington because anything more was too hot..
There’s a bit in the diary of Ernest Shackleton, from the expedition to the Antarctic where they were living on an ice flow after the ship sank. At one point, after being stuck there all winter, there was a bit of a heatwave and the men were walking round in their undershirts and it’s described as ‘unbearably hot’. It was 26F.

If you don’t mind, me and the ratties would probably rather not join in a Mumpet meetup. I feel that may be a little too interesting for them.
Weather wise a beautiful day. Low humidity, sunny, mid 80s. Ursala Kitteh is basking in the sun in front of the open patio door. The door is open, and the a/c is ruining, set at 76. We are both comfortuhbles. Went to the gym this morning. It’s been at least 3 weeks since my last appearance there. No, it did not feel good to exercise but it must be done.
