The vet visited this morning and the news is…not bad. She examined Mauser all over, and she thinks it’s a pinched nerve, not something broken.And it seems an extra day has given the meds time to do more, as Mauser actually got up and walked without crying. The vet also showed how to pick him up without making him cry, or at least not as much. He won’t really feel like going for a walk but this evening my sister is coming over to pick him up and take him out to the grass. Sis was here when the vet visited because we both thought this could be the last visit. She loves Mauser too and back when I broke my hip a few years ago she came and walked him twice a day.
So for now I am going to keep hoping he will continue to improve, and I thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and well wishes, I wish for all Doper pets long and healthy lives, with lots of skritches.
I made steak fajita tacos. Almost as good as the ones from Chubby’s Tacos. And this margarita tastes like I’m not going to work tomorrow. . I also set up Roomie’s new PC as the old..< looks at side label >… Windows XP box began pinin’ for the fjords. I see a dump run tomorrow.
He was named for a dachshund named Mauser in a Clive Cussler book. The Dirk Pitt novels almost always mentioned dachshunds somewhere in the story. Perhaps the dog belonging to a character that appeared only in a cameo, sometimes some named character that was important to the plot. If I ever have another dachshund I should give him an American name, like Winchester or Remington. I don’t know what American firearm is closest in type to a Mauser rifle.
Ugh on the weather here today. Woke up to mid 50Ferrets, but the sunlight has that pinky, orangey smoggy quality that screams, “Wildfire!” It’s not too bad, but with forecast suggesting a high of 96F, I made an executive decision to stay in to avoid the smoke and heat. I’m not a brisket.

Cupcakes, I am so happy at Mauser’s news!! I dreaded seeing what you posted today, so seeing it was the best surprise! I hope his pinched nerve resolves soon. I know with Ollie, I carry him up and down stairs and also don’t let him jump on and off furniture, because our vet said those are the most common ways that dachshunds hurt themselves with their long backs. But even taking those precautions, there are no guarantees. I will keep sending all best vibes for Mauser’s recovery! Definitely agree if you stay with the firearms theme for a subsequent pet. “Siggie” wouldn’t be a bad name, though.
I wanted to bake today, but I decided later in the week will be better with the nasty hot temperatures we’re experiencing. The last thing I want to do is turn on the oven for an extended period.
There are no fires near me, but the smoke in the north is being blown our way.

Posted about 4 hours ago and except for folding underwear and putting my dishes away, I have slothed in a manner that would make swampy proud. I really do need to do things, just have no ambition today, guess after a couple weeks of working out after a vacation, I needed a dead day in there. Might do something this evening, we’ll see how it goes.
52, hope the eye is getting better and you can always use the line “y’all ought to see the other guy” if someone stares too hard. And no, I use the old-fashioned hand-activated toothbrush. Your probably right but not feeling a need to change right now.

My big giant nose now has fiberglass on it, so that’s progress. I haven’t been able fit in working on that between all the other stuff I have to do at the museum. I hope to install windows in the snail lab tomorrow, then put back my stone piano. Like I said, I have a silly job.
Raven gets scrambled eggs every morning for breakfast. Raven used to get pork sausage but that has been banned by the cook, so now it gets turkey sausage. Raven gets fresh corn, fruit and bits of cheese on his snack tray. Raven shares whatever Harry has for dinner plus gets more scrambled eggs as a late evening snack.
Its a wonder to me that the bird can actually fly anymore, he’s looking very portly nowadays.
I’m sorry your good nursery is closing, it just seems to be a sign of the times.

You do know that Staples will recycle electronics, with the exceptions of monitors, free, right? Before the move to Texas, I took a desktop, several old phones, a Cricut and a monitor and they only charged me $10 for the monitor. They even came out to the car to get everything.

Howdy Y’all! Nappage and day drinkin’ were achieved after my last post. OK, day drinkin’ part two, as I did have a beerverage after I finished mowage. What? 10:15 a.m. is fine to have a beerverage after yahd irk. I also apparently started a frenzy of mowage in da ‘hood as I heard lawn mowers everytime I stepped outside this afternoon/early evenin’. Sup was good and we have leftovers for tomorrow.

A beerverage after irk is always appropriate. There used to be a group of us who would stop in at the local pub after getting off the graveyard shift at 0730 for supper and a beer.
When I lived in middle TN, the landfill charged for electronics.
I remember those from when I irked for a warehouse that distributed them. I only got them for return to vendor or end of life models, but I did handle them.
Evening all. Did finally go to the gym after dinner, exercised less because I am trying to eat less rather than sweating it all off. For an example, I was eating 3500 calories a day but doing several hours at the gym and using 1600 calories, so I was below the daily average of about 2000 calories for a inert individual. However, that didn’t do much for the weight of the stuff I was eating, so…today consumption was about 2500 calories and I worked off 800 of them, so we’ll see if a couple weeks like that has an effect on the scales. Outside of that and trying to predict if the raincloud is going to stop over my head, been a quiet day.

red, Best Buy did that for me a couple years ago, don’t know if they still recycle stuff, I have a ton of old cables free to a good home(s). I also have a couple laptops I can do without, but I can’t erase one and the other has locked me out and given me no good way to get back in. May have to take them to some computer folks before recycling them, do not want any personal info left there. Hope those 4-6 weeks go by fast.
9:30pm and since I got up late I don’t feel to tired right now, we’ll see if I remember to brush my teeth tonight and start a new habit. Catch y’all on Hump Day.
I still prefer irking from home, and being alone with my programs and data instead of interacting with people. But I’m from SoCal, so I’m pretty laid back. While I don’t like the limitations of the schedule, I can be nice to people.
There were not deleterious effects from the Swimming Rama. I suspect The Missus was affected by the spinach, to which she has been susceptible before. (Incidentally, I’m making creamed spinach with feta to go with the garlic pesto salmon when the church girl comes on Saturday.)
I do suffer from ‘employment anxiety’ I’ve been laid off a few times, but I no longer have the safety net I did when I was younger. (I never did move home with dad, but the option was there.) After irking for a non-profit for 19 years, and starting to look at retirement, having the rug pulled out from under me was shattering. So yes, I was slightly relieved when I found I now have a name.
Before he became a ‘mustang’ in the Navy, my did a stint in the Army. He still remembered his ‘Springfield Rifle, M1903-A3’. I have two Mausers. One was a Gew-98 made by Spandau in 1917. I converted it to a KAR-98 because the original barrel was too pitted to use. Man, did it kick! The other is Yugoslavian surplus. I haven’t fired that one.
